It's becoming the case that it costs more for a business to deploy AI and fire human workers than it does to keep the human workers around. That could be an economic death knell for the whole technology. From me. prospect.org/2026/07/08/g...

prospect.orgThe Great AI Repricing Isn’t Going Well - The American ProspectCompanies are backing off on their AI spending. Because investors have made such big bets on AI coming to fruition, that’s a big problem.

The small things matter. This was in the economy lot of the airport. Someone apparently dropped this otter stuffy and somone else took the time to place it where it could be seen and found. Even a little protected from the rain.

It's no longer left versus right or even Democrat versus Republican. It’s now democracy versus oligarchy. Freedom versus dictatorship. Right versus wrong. Millions are awakening to this new reality — and they're speaking up. The sleeping giant of America is roaring.

Trump's DOJ is now suing the DC Bar for disciplining top lawyers who tried to help Trump overturn the 2020 election. Anyone else remember when the DOJ and Attorney General were supposed to serve the American people, not serve as the president's personal attorney?

Giving billionaires and corporations the green light to buy our elections. Making it easier for polluters to destroy the planet. Stripping millions of reproductive freedom. Granting presidents immunity. Gutting the protections of the Voting Rights Act. The shame of the John Roberts court.

John Lewis said it best: In a democracy, the right to vote is the most powerful, nonviolent tool we have. People marched, protested & bled for that right. But today it's under attack. We must defend the right to vote & we can start by passing the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.

From my current reading “Hello!” Ilyukhina lunged forward and hugged Stratt. “I’m here to die for Earth! Pretty awesome, yes?!” I leaned to Dimitri. “Are all Russians crazy?” “Yes,” he said with a smile. “It is the only way to be Russian and happy at the same time.” “That’s…dark.” “That’s Russian!”

The job of engineers is not to deploy some technology but to build robust, reliable and sustainable (in all meanings of that word) solutions for real world problems based on requirements directly derived from people's needs. Even for an engineer technology comes second at best.
