CTFM lab contributed to @fau.de's "Run against cancer" ("Lauf gegen Krebs") this Saturday! Groups of runners start onto the loop around the "Schlossgarten" every 30 minutes. Comment by one of us: It is like injecting electron bunches into the synchrotron ring... Is #NerdsWhoRun a good hashtag?

The CTFM lab at @fau.de welcome Reyhaneh Alborz as a new PhD student, who has joined our group from Amirkabir Univ. of Technology with a doctoral fellowship by the "Stiftung der Deutschen Wirtschaft"! Reyhaneh develops solution-processible Pb-free #semiconductors. #solarcells #ChemSky #ChemPrint

Get to know some of the most amazing young talents emerging in #Europe right now -- likely #science leaders tomorrow! The #ERCStG list is also a selection of the most cutting-edge '26 research topics Dear awardees, congrats -- enjoy the funding, make the best of it, & show us all what you've got!

📣 Good news! 📣 Results of the ERC 2026 Starting Grant call are out! Funding worth a total of €705 million will go to 421 early-career researchers across Europe. Discover who, what and where 👉 link.europa.eu/9M3MmN 🧪 #ERCStG #FrontierResearch #HorizonEurope 🇪🇺 @scienceinnovation.ec.europa.eu

A founding figure of physical & theoretical #chemistry has left us, whose research also influenced inorganic chemistry & chemical biology. Julien talked about Rudy Marcus, his contributions to our #science, & experimental tests confirming his theory, in class at @fau.de on July 15... #chemsky

Rudolph A. “Rudy” Marcus, a Canadian-born US chemist whose work on electron transfer helped shape the entire field of chemistry, died on July 16 at age 102. He was a chemist at the California Institute of Technology and a Nobel laureate: cen.acs.org/people/obitu... #chemsky 🧪

Graduation ceremony yesterday at @fau.de's #chemistry department! CTFM graduates Lara & Newsha received their M. Sc. diploma, Lara was also awarded a Zerweck #prize -- congrats!!! Music by the Free Radicals featuring chem profs. Hirsch (FAU VP People, sax) & Schatz (Dean of Science)! #chemsky

Warning against dismantling #science and #research -- let us not let it happen! #chemsky

Europe must learn from America’s assault on science @chrischirp.bsky.social @tiagocorreia.bsky.social & I warn in Eur J Public Health that what is happening there could happen here, with catastrophic consequences @eupha.bsky.social academic.oup.com/eurpub/artic...

Featuring recent additions to the CTFM #team: Newsha (PhD student), Pascal, Nikita, Fabian (MSc theses), Sadegh, Melisa, Xinyao (MSc #research assistants) & Florencia (research module). Various #academic goals, six countries of origin, same passion for #materials #chemistry! #chemsky #materialssky

Dr. Janina Grosch has joined our Collaborative Research Center #ChemPrint as the new #scientific coordinator! She will be the anchor point between PIs, #doctoral #researchers, the @dfg.de and central units of @fau.de organizing #research, #training, #networking, #reporting, & more. Welcome Janina!

Just in time for #pi day -- an anonymous participant of the #ChemPrint winter school came up with a very special #nerd joke: Probably the world's first atomic layer deposition (ALD) #meme! #ALDep #chemsky #materialssky #surface @fau.de

For the International Women's Day: Let us remember that on average #women still enjoy less rights & face more hurdles than men. Let us ensure that in our lab they can blossom! The contribution of women to CTFM #research proves the benefits of nurturing their talent. 🙏 #womeninSTEM @fau.de 👩‍🎓

If instead of gifting a #Nobel medal to a #dictator you want to save it from him, #chemistry provides the #solution: aqua regia! Note: potassium triiodide, KI3, obtained by dissolving iodine crystals into an aqueous KI solution, works too. #ChemSky #resist #gold www.npr.org/sections/kru...

npr.orgDissolve My Nobel Prize! Fast! (A True Story)It's 1940. The Nazis have taken Copenhagen, and physicist Niels Bohr has just hours, maybe minutes, to make two Nobel Prize medals disappear.

#Congratulations Abir Ben Ouezdou, who defended at Institut National des Sciences Appliquées & Technologie (INSAT) in Tunis her diploma thesis on her #research performed at @fau.de's CTFM: she graduated w/ high honors! Thank you Abir for your work building an automated #catalysis testing platform!

True story: Paper: Electrolytic current scales linearly w/ length ℓ of cylindrical pore due to geometry Reviewers 1 & 3: Awesome! Rev. 2: Wrong, cylinder area scales w/ ℓ^2 Our rebuttal: Ahem, A = ℓ × π r^2 Adv. Mater. editor: Reject unless you add ℓ^2 Us: Nope DOI: 10.1016/j.jcat.2012.03.022

@fau.de's #Women in #Science symposium wrapped! 3 days of exciting science, shared experiences, eye-opening conversations. Humbling & thought-provoking for the cis, heterosexual, white male in the audience... Even mikes are designed for bald white men, less so for Black women with braids! #ChemPrint

We #welcome two new members of @fau.de's CTFM #team! Dr. Lynda Beddek is visiting for a month from Mouloud Mammeri University Tizi-Ouzou, and Dr. Mathilde Lambert has joined as a postdoc from @univ-amu.fr! Looking forward to some exciting #ALDep and #pv #research together! #ChemPrint

Six of the nine Nobel Prize winners this year work in the U.S. Three of the six were born outside the U.S., which is the pattern most years. No country has benefited more from welcoming immigrants from around the world. www.nobelprize.org

Published online (early view) today, presented to the #European COST Action 'RenewPV' crowd in Julien's master class tomorrow! Still financed in part at @fau.de by our @erc.europa.eu project 'Solacylin'.

“Over the past 20 years, Paris has undergone a major physical transformation, trading automotive arteries for bike lanes, adding green spaces and eliminating 50,000 parking spaces. Part of the payoff has been invisible — in the air itself.” Leadership, strategy, real action, common sense. #Paris

washingtonpost.comParis said au revoir to cars. Air pollution maps reveal a dramatic change.Air pollution fell substantially as the city restricted car traffic and made way for parks and bike lanes.
