Yeah, Microsoft is dead to me as a gaming company. I don’t care about their big (now faded, let’s be real) franchises. Without cool little games like Keeper and South of Midnight there’s frankly no reason to subscribe to Game Pass anymore. And Obsidian’s gutted too? Nah man I’m out.

Yesterday my wife — who does most of the finances — informed me happily that I only had five years until I'd paid off my student loans. On the one hand this is great. Only five years! On the other ... in five years I'll be brushing up against 50. Yeesh. Sometimes I regret grad school.

I mean, I'm assuming that the world still exists in five years. I'd give it, oh, a 75% chance of that happening. But hey, if it ends before I'm 50, that's less I have to pay off!

Gemini 3 just found four major errors in a PySpark query I asked it to critique that would cause it to immediately crash at runtime. None of these were an actual error. Bravo, Gemini! I'm kind of impressed how wrong your explanations were. One was out-of-date info, the other three were baffling.

I keep seeing this idea that Trump's motivated by a desire to avoid legal consequences for his in-office actions, and that he'll tear the world apart to avoid prison. He'll do that, yes, but not for *that* reason. You really think Newsom or Harris would haul him off to jail? And try him? For what?

I don't claim he's operating within the law. But 1/3 of the country, and probably a majority of legislators, would *freak the fuck out* if that happened. It'd be a giant hassle, take years and millions of dollars, and end up with him going free anyway. No, the next president will be "magnanimous".

When someone sets up a meeting just so they can verbally ask me a question I could have answered more quickly, more precisely, and more accurately via chat or an email, it makes me cry a little.

Unpopular opinion (maybe): there's not much we, the folks on the ground, can do against the corporate AI machine. What we can and should do, however, is name and shame whoever uses a chatbot to make a social media post. Let them know how you feel about it.

See a Claude screenshot accompanying a post? Shut that crap down. Let them know you don't want to see it. There should be consequences for clogging up the internet with slop, even if *you* are OK outsourcing your creative thinking and problem solving to a chatbot. Do the bare minimum. Do better.

You are up to date.
