Construction on the first phase of the Pioneer Trail in SLC is already underway, which includes more than just a new path around historic sites. New market space and a restaurant added to Council Hall are also being planned, project officials say: www.ksl.com/article/5163...

"People are concerned." 2 churches next to the proposed SECC still have qualms about construction/elements of the planned district. SEG says it has already made changes to its plans to accommodate concerns & willing to meet over existing concerns: www.ksl.com/article/5163...

More SLC development news --> SLC Council has adopted the new zoning map for the Smith's Ballpark redevelopment area. Max height is MU-8 (not MU-11 as originally envisioned). Open space will be at least 5 acres, at least .2 acres above the original plan The new zoning map:

SLC Council says it has invited HF Sinclair to speak again at its Nov. 10 work session. No word if that will be the case just yet, but Sinclair issued a statement after tonight's meeting, which drew several month public comments against the proposal:

Update on the Sugar House Business District plan --> Sugar House Community Council & Chamber are ending their effort for a new assessment area, formally requesting a withdrawal last week. City officials said economic stresses were a big factor in the decision

NEW: Pittsburgh Penguins say their plane was rerouted back to Salt Lake City today over a medical emergency involving F/C Ben Kindel, who is considered to be in "stable condition" after being transported to U of U Hospital. Still trying to get more on what happened: www.ksl.com/article/5163...

ksl.comNHL player hospitalized in Utah after team plane rerouted back to Salt Lake CityA Pittsburgh Penguins player was rushed to a Salt Lake City hospital following a medical episode on the team's flight out of Utah on Tuesday, team officials said.

Update: SLC airport officials tell me that the incident happened just before noon. The team has since departed again after refueling. The Athletic reports that front office staff and coaches elected to stay in Utah with Kindel

Today's SLC Council work session is off to a fun start. It was delayed by members being late, followed by technical issues and then a security alarm accidentally being triggered 🙃

We have a better potential timeline for Salt Lake City's expanding housing options proposal in the City Council: It's currently scheduled to have a pair of public hearings (Nov. 10 and Nov. 17) before a tentative vote on Dec. 1. They'll vote today to slate those hearing dates

I’m here at SLC Hall, where Sinclair will present on a proposed new pipeline through parts of SLC, which has generated a lot of concern from residents over the past month. Meeting has been delayed over a CRA closed session, but is beginning now

I just chatted with Council Chair Puy, who said the Council left the meeting with more questions than answers. It plans to ask formal questions to be answered as it goes through the next steps

This does require a city approval to permit the line, he noted. Right now city is not inclined to allow that but it will continue to meet. Biggest concern, he said, is the watershed

A lot to unpack from that meeting. The crux of it, concerns about potential leaks since it crosses many sensitive city areas. Sinclair said it is committed to working with city on a safe line, but leaders seemed skeptical on the answers provided

Some tense moments so far, as the City Council presses Sinclair says the project can be carried out "safely, responsibly and reliably," but City Council officials have asked for more data on past leaks. "I appreciate you have a goal, but you also have a history," Councilmember Young said.

Sinclair said the final route is subject to change, but construction could begin in 2028 and be complete by 2029. This is the "more preferable route" through Salt Lake County:

SLC switched its agenda around a bit, starting with a zoning update on Smith's Ballpark. A zoning amendment on community feedback is slated for next week

This is what those rain totals have translated into, in terms of soil moisture. Big spike toward the record-high for early/mid-October in the statewide soil moisture, which is good for future runoff

As our unofficial snack reporter, I couldn't help but notice more dirty soda-themed or dirty soda-like products unveiled by Coke, DrP & Pepsi at NACS last week. I guess this is the next realm of the dirty soda war, and Utah's influence on new drinks on shelves: www.ksl.com/article/5163...

ksl.comUtah's dirty sodas appear to still be stirring the beverage industry with new productsThe new dirty soda wars might be playing out in drink aisles, based on some of the new products unveiled at a Las Vegas trade show last week.

SLC officials say they're in no rush to complete a nearly 1,000-acre GSL wetlands land transfer following plenty of feedback about it during a City Council meeting yesterday. It could lead to added provisions in a conservation easement: www.ksl.com/article/5163...

ksl.comSalt Lake City plan to transfer nearly 1,000 wetland acres to Utah hits a snagA Salt Lake City plan to transfer nearly 1,000 acres of wetlands land near the airport to the state was met with pushback on Tuesday.

"We want a strong local vibe in addition to iconic brands..." Much like the process to select a name for what became the Utah Mammoth, Ryan Smith launched a survey that this time seeks local brands to include in the district next to the arena ahead of construction: www.ksl.com/article/5163...

You may remember that odd zoning situation at the 10th East Senior Center (which was also nearly shut down last year) that I wrote about in March An update: The City Council voted tonight to approve the zoning map amendment. www.ksl.com/article/5145...

"It was really, truly strange." Utah's 2026 water year came to an end last week. Statewide mountain precip throughout the year was 96% of normal, but experts point out that nothing else about the year was normal... leaving many questions for 2027: www.ksl.com/article/5163...
