Looking forward to this. I hope we can help (1) support open science globally, and (2) unlock innovative, efficient and productive approaches to research, evaluation, and synthesis

GDP per year (big stack of bricks) and ODA given (smaller stack). The recent drops means the USA has fallen below Germany, a country with less than 1/4 the population & 1/6 the GDP, as a "foreign aid power". (ChatGPT helped build this, obviously)

I'm moderately hopeful/confident this will reverse. It's not 'permanently cancelled forever'. Americans on both extremes of the political spectrum loved to criticize USAID, mostly unfairly imo... "white savior colonialism just to help US industry" vs "foreign rat-holes, keep our money at home".

This was a very ad hoc and fairly unsystematic comparison. It also doesn’t represent “a standard jazz tune” because I was asking it to do some specific things involving duo counterpoint. But I think it came out interesting.

Foreign aid contributions fell in 2025 amongst almost all of the top 10 donors. In 2025, the amount of foreign aid given by the world’s richest countries fell by almost a quarter. That amounted to a reduction of roughly US$50 billion.

Note, it has other features I do find useful, like helping you listen to a music track behind a spoken track or audiobook, and you can have both in both ears if you like. And there are more features in the works.

I've heard suggestion that outside of EE/CS/ML, & even in quant. fields like economics, ...academics don't want to use the *terminal* for 'vibe-coding', research-feedback, etc. Yet tools like Claude Code CLI (running in the terminal) are very useful, powerful, & easy What do others think?

How long do Unjournal evaluators take to do their evaluations? For our academic stream, about 8 hours on average, with substantial dispersion. (Scatterplot: imputed data from 40 quantifiable responses, not including applied stream nor those who used the PubPub form.)

Musk is on his way to becoming the world’s first trillionaire He could have done so much good… or just paid a fair share of taxes He chose to kill USAID, which has already caused the deaths of 600,000 people, two-thirds of them kids

I love what #SciPost does & their narrative. Much agrees w/ Unjournal.org practices. Some differences (Us/Them) 1. Quant. ratings vs accept/reject 2. Publish all evaluations vs. only if ‘accepted’ 3. Fields & applied focus 4. We pay evaluators 5. We don’t 'publish' papers, just evaluations

Pose: By now you should know which one is Pop by the process of elimination. But in case you missed one of the other two, think of how he poses: as ifin a parade. And a 'pose' is like a role (of a drum core leader). Also "Pop" starts with the same letter as "Parade". So Pop is the parade hat guy.

It doesn't tell you directly which one is Snap, Crackle or Pop, but it gives you the _clues you need_. Sound: Think of the "snapping" sound, and picture a chef snapping his fingers when a dish is ready. Snap is the chef!

This is NOT a done deal. @thelancet.com's study assumes USAID is cut to 0. Congress clawed back 9.4 billion; ~50 billion remains that the State Dept. must obligate to line-items Congress specified, such as #PEPFAR. We should _fight_ for this, not let people die to use as a talking point.

Exec. Order 14169—'cancelled ~80% percent of USAID’s contracts'/ ~$60 billion. But the allocations must still be spent unless Congress explicitly rescinds it all. See: Antideficiency Act, Impoundment Control Act

Did Charlie Brown football kick attempts (cartoon strip) occur during the US football season? Yes they did. At least ChatGPT 04 mini high's analysis is pretty clear. I haven't checked the raw data though. 41 attempts, all in-season.
