Work thoughts I can’t say to anyone at work without risking an HR violation part 4: Me: “Um… so, what you’re saying is that the track picks up KINKS from getting hot and subsequently a little warped? … I mean… who doesn’t?”

Work thoughts I can’t say to anyone at work without risking an HR violation part 3: Control: “There’s a switch out of correspondence.” Me: “Yeah… it sucks when they just ghost you like that, man, sorry.”

Work thoughts I can’t say to anyone at work without risking an HR violation part 2: In Gresham: “Rockwood? I got your rock-wood right here!”

Work thoughts I can’t say to anyone at work without risking an HR violation part 1: “If rail switches can be set ‘normal’ or ‘diverging,’ why is it that I - who am also a switch - can only be set diverging? This seems unfair.”

Song 28 was a revoicing of something I wrote a few years back. Honestly, this mix was kinda shit. The volumes are all messed up 😅

Song 24 was another Found Sound jam. Drums: various trees and shrubs & a drum stick sampled and mixed in Koala Drones: and LG AC in a work break room split into a raw track and a processed track.

Song 23 was another train commute jam, I was attempting to do things with the rhythm that I’ve since gotten better at.

Song 22 was another go at vocal processing. Not even much of a performance, just being silly with an SM57 while laying in bed.

The city gives Trimet a grant to run extra service trains during the 5 week I-5 shutdown anticipating an uptick in demand for trains. Trimet runs extra service trains in order to fulfill its side of the bargain to earn that much needed grant money. There is no uptick in demand for trains.

Now, I’m sitting in an empty train next to PSU, where I’ve been since around 3:30ish today (it’s 8:30, now) pretty much just working on music and reading until they call me to do anything (which may not actually happen before it’s time to take this train back to the yard). Government work is weird.

Just finished this one at work. It’s nothing very groundbreaking, just evidence that Slavoj Žižek is paying attention to current events 🤣

Song 21 was the first of many attempts to just slam together something on the train commute to work.

For Song 20, I spend an inordinate amount of time one day building a distortion pedal in Reaktor 6 FX, one circuit section at a time.

Alright… back to it… Song 19 was a demo of a parallel FX Bus I spent a few hours on. There's even 2 separate feedbackers I built in Reaktor in there... so... I learned from this experiment how to build feedback loopers in Reaktor FX.

Bandcamp haul (this and last week, and an ERR pre-order from months ago that just dropped last week): I am the Night by Perturbator Get Mean by Boy Harsher An Undying Love For a Burning World by Neurosis for_once_v3 (single) from Baileyrp Estuary by WitTR These Kiling Times by Emma Ruth Rundle

Song 18 was build by adding some new material over some loop pack material just for fun & experimentation.

Song 16 was built around a recording of a song my 5 year old came up with that was basically just her repeating the line “permanent life isn’t a thing.”

RE: Trimet finances: ~Just under $100 million shortfall year on year. ~Just over $500 million in reserves. Presently set to hit the financial cliff in FY2031. Expect more cuts if there isn’t a budget deal reached in Salem. (Source: internal messaging)

Song 14 was the 1st in an as of yet unfinished exploration into how to add aggression into an arrangement. I should do the other 3 experiments in the next 2 weeks.

Song 13 was a second attempt at horror synth. I like some of these anxiously long decay synth voices and may use them again in something.

One of the things I’ve really noticed I’ve struggled with creatively over the last few months has been this cycle of feeling the urge to start something (to any degree) then churning out something I really like, followed by not feeling satisfied with where the next thing begins. It’s a real mindfuck

Ok… so… where didn’t leave off? Song 10?… This is a cover of Handel’s Suite in B-flat major HWV 434 : I. Prelude. I was playing around with it as the next Kinæsthetik album is titled Erewhon, after the Samuel Buer novel, in which this piece is referenced indirectly.

Song 9 (last one for today)… was a guitar experiment that evolved into something I really like and that is presently due to be on the next Kinæsthetik album - which I’m in the middle of stitching together.

Song 8 was more in the spirit of what I’d initially set out to do at the beginning, and just a quick and dirty mix of something I’d done up in Korg Gadget a few weeks previous.

Song 7 was my first of several cracks at writing “Horror Synth” - something I haven’t done in over a month now and should take another crack at, because it’s really fun!

😂 I posted the wrong one for Song 1 from my 100 “songs” in 100 days exercise that I started 81 days ago, and am only through song 68 of… but here’s a repost of song 1 with the correct song 1.

…and fuck it! Let’s go for 3 for today! Here’s song 3 from a few months back. It was my first foray into trying to process vocals with the gear I have now. I honestly need more practice at it despite having gotten a little better since this. I could prattle on about it at length, but whatever.

Doing my 2026 version of what’s Bluesky up to. I’m realizing that I was on a weird slam when I set this account up, and just followed a ton of lists based on my (mostly academic) interests. As I’m presently orienting differently from that time interest-wise… cleaning that up will take some work 🤣

Sometimes I like to have 5 o’clock shadow. But I’m never really sure whether the shadow is 5am or 5pm shadow. Is it the Jungian shadow, sitting at the moment of choice, in order to make change possible without losing myself entirely? Anyway, I chose not to shave this morning.

Have a blessed Winter Solstice, may the light of your ancestors work through you to set freedom in motion toward deep growth and healing for those you love and care for. May you tend to your own through making and speaking from deep truth unyieldingly.

I cannot for the life of me fathom why we do this weird game with political actors after they’ve left the White House, they go on high paying book and speaking tours as post-power influencers. It’s an utterly bizarre phenomenon. What’s next, brand endorsements?

The weirdest part about the POTUS’ absurd move to deploy 200 Oregon National Guard personnel to Portland to assist federal LE in defending federal properties from small and kinda boring protests has been watching social media shitposters regurgitating the same jokes and comments over and over again.
