“One of the really American things about Hal, probably, is the way he despises what it is he’s really lonely for: this hidden internal self, incontinent of sentiment and need, that pules and writhes just under the hip empty mask, anhedonia.”—DFW, Infinite Jest

I am at this game, and here are my impressions. Suarez was clearly done before the three run homer. That Tracy didn’t make a pitching change then was a failure to recognize that this is a moment where the season rests on a single at bat. #redsox

The root of our demise is the failure of the American culture of insatiation. Americans' spiritual desperation has exceeded the capacity of another bottomless wing night at TGI Friday's to palliate. Only by burning America to the ground can their agony find it's proper expression.

Tried to turn on Red Sox Yankees game on MLBTV. I live in NY, but game is in Boston—I have gotten these games for 20 years through my subscription, but now it’s blacked out. MLB is killing the goose that lays the golden eggs—may cancel. #redsox #mlbtv

Joe Kent's resignation seems more the result of the incoherence of Republican orthodoxy than adherence to any higher principle. Trump's alliance with Netanyahu, based on their shared criminality and imperialist aims, triggered Kent's nativist, right-wing anti-semitism. Israel caused Gulf War II?

How do these oligarchic Epstein affiliates divvy up responsibility for the ruination of society? "Well, Jeff, if you buy the WP and destroy it, I will toss away a few billion to do the same for Twitter. Who's got CBS?"

“‘My leg’s stinking,’ he said, ‘because I’ve laid up here so long the rot’s set in. You know how that’ll do. That rot will travel till I’m dead right up to my eyes. Till I’m a corpse able to see things. Able to think it’s thoughts.’”—Train Dreams, Denis Johnson

A generalization based on admittedly limited evidence, but I have been frustrated that most coverage of Trump’s failure to make a deal with Iran before the Israeli strike doesn’t mention that Trump foolishly killed the same deal, which Obama had made—resulting in the current situation.
