I’m hearing from U.S. archaeological+historic preservation experts who’ve asked if I can share info about the threat to efforts to enforce federal rules that help make sure we don’t destroy important sites and structures. This is a good primer: https:heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/july-25-2026

heathercoxrichardson.substack.comJuly 25, 2026It turns out Trump has not abandoned his plan to paint the massive grey granite Eisenhower Executive Office Building white.

I don't usually tell people this, but because we put out so few CS shows we have a lot of people out there who would like a new CS show, but never find out we've released one. If you know one of those people, I'd love it if you'd let them know.

Listen, I realize I post on Twitter (not feeling any need to use the newer name) about politics and I really don't do much of that here. But the things I'm saying, most people on this app don't need to hear. Twitter on the other hand... (do you think bots can learn?😂)

We will release a new Common Sense show sometime in the next few hours about the illegal order question and the "treason" statements by the President currently in the headlines. It'll be a pithy one. After all, I've got Alexander the Great stuff to work on...

Robert, I'm gonna use your post as an opportunity to thank all the people who came out to the event. I can't always do the handshaking stuff...different venues, different rules...but I wanted you all to know how much I appreciate it. It was a great night too.

Dan, I wanted to thank you for an excellent event, and for graciously sticking around to shake hands / briefly chat with us. Thank you for all the amazing podcasts over the years (going back to when I actually had them on a device with pod in the name). Can't wait for Alexander part 3!

Lord...they're babies. Except Paul Cook. He looks to be in his early 40s.😂

"Darkly Hilarious" is an interesting way to put it. Whoever thought THAT would be the aspect of those shows to make them later seem dated.

@dancarlin.bsky.social Dan are there any plans to revisit/do your bubonic plague episode in a post Covid world? I’m going through the back catalogue and it’s darkly hilarious by way of some of your “imagine this happening to you” bits.

Atlanta, thank you all SO much for coming out tonight! You all were great. I'm such a fortunate person. My listeners have made my life...and it was so nice to shake some of your hands and tell you that face to face. Thank you!

So if we don't end up with a moderator at one of these August Southern shows I'm doing, those in attendance may witness the invention of my new one-person show. Perhaps in real time. "Hardcore History" indeed. You won't want to miss that. It'll be a complete surprise for all of us.

Well, this has made me think we must have term limits. Maybe only a single term. I realize we lose tons of experience that way (and we do), but so much of what's killing us in terms of courage is the craven willingness to sacrifice anything for re-election. Maybe better to just take it off the table?

Taking away Presidential power to just do stuff would help fix Congress - because then they would have to do the legislating. Gonna take a preseident who says that he doesn't need the power. Gonna take a leader.

...um...yeah. Strong agree. It's my only silver lining outcome for everything we're going through now. A post-Watergate, presidential powers limitation reform moment (as happened then) spurred on by another power-hungry presidency. Sometimes reform only happens after bad things do.

Paging Dr. @dancarlin.bsky.social .

I said the same thing to my wife several times. I feel like I'm actually learning about the past living through what we're experiencing now. There WAS so much that was weird and hard to understand about earlier (similar) eras that I currently say to myself "oh...I get it now." A case study indeed.

the hypernormalization of *gestures broadly at everything* has really been something to behold. It would make for an interesting study if it wasn't so absurdly cruel and damaging to millions of people.
