Bluesky feature idea: I want to be able to go back and for any account I follow, see the last thread I saw from them before I hit follow. Help me remember why I chose to follow that profile.

I post the text of all my sermons as blog posts online. I’m sure LLM models have vacuumed them up, which I don’t appreciate (my intellectual property, etc). But it is a small consolation that my teeny-tiny contribution to AI’s understanding of Christianity might push back against

the ubiquity of American evangelicism. We need alternative, inclusive Christian perspectives out there, especially as more people are apparently turning to chatbots for spiritual advice 🤢. #elca

Executing people in public is barbaric. Death as live-streamed entertainment is evil.

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com

Breaking news: The firing squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan will be live-streamed, the Defense Department said. “People need to understand that there’s serious consequences for these types of things,” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said.

I just took a political survey that turned out to have been paid for by a Republican campaign group, which makes the quality control question even more amusing. Canada is not a U.S. state. I fear certain very prominent Republicans would have trouble with that question.

I’ve occasionally heard people say they ignore the news, because it’s too depressing. Why do only the negative stories get reported? Well, I’d like to direct your attention to this report from the Village of Belgium, as printed in this week’s Ozaukee Press.

On the church speaking publicly for justice: “Please don't think you can sit this one out and stay on the sidelines. I'm becoming convinced that those sidelines do not exist anymore and you are on the playing field whether you like it or not.” -Bishop Paul Erickson Greater Milwaukee Synod Assembly

So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest time, if we do not give up. So then, whenever we have an opportunity, let us work for the good of all and especially for those of the family of faith. -Galatians 6:9-10

Five years ago, I gave a Memorial Day speech in Greene, Iowa, with the goal of honoring those who gave their lives in service, but without falling into the trap of Christian nationalism. I think it turned out pretty well: danielflucke.com/memorial-day-2021/

The New Apostolic Reformation has been staging Christian nationalist events on the National Mall since 2000. Today they finally got one organized & sponsored by the White House – the culmination of 25 years of work. My new piece explains what it means to them: open.substack.com/pub/matthewd...

Alleluia! Christ is Risen! Happy Easter! He has arisen and we shall arise; give God the glory, alleluia! Beautiful and joyful Easter decor at the two ELCA churches I serve.

I was asked on Monday evening if it would be possible to do a baptism this week. Answer: Yes! We’ll figure it out. So, our already unique Maundy Thursday worship service got to include baptizing a nine-year-old!

I’m aware that culture has changed and bowling alleys are in a tough business. People don’t join bowling leagues like they did decades ago, etc. But is it too much to ask for any of the three bowling alleys within a 15 minute drive to have a functional website with a calendar?

Family outing this afternoon for Jonah’s and Micah’s first time seeing a movie on the big screen! The Pout-Pout Fish is a great children’s board book. The movie? Well, today’s a good day to learn the life lesson that the book’s nearly always better than the movie.

I’ve been using my new M5 MacBook Pro for three days so far, and it feels incredibly snappy. Everything is faster! But I’m surprised at how much I actually miss the Touch Bar from my 2019 Intel MBP. Didn’t realize I used it much at all, but I keep reaching for it.

“The officers told nurses Castañeda Mondragón ‘purposefully ran headfirst into a brick wall,’ an account his caregivers immediately doubted.” Evil.

Alberto Castañeda Mondragón was hospitalized with eight skull fractures and five life-threatening brain hemorrhages. Officers claimed he ran into a wall, but medical staff doubted that account. n.pr/4bHoZDU

“I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.” -Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Dear TikTok, it’s a video of a spacewalk. Is it really necessary to add a warning? “The actions in this video are performed or supervised by professionals. Do not attempt.”

I recently saw someone suggest you can tell the difference between Christians who grew up singing “Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world” and those who grew up singing “Jesus Loves Me.” But…🧵

If I’m going to believe Jesus loves me, how can I not believe Jesus also loves “them” too, whoever “they” might be? I’m no more deserving than anyone else, so if grace is for me, it must be for them too! #Lutheran

Here’s the audio version of the Epiphany sermon I ended up preaching on peace and Venezuela. In my relatively liberal ELCA congregations, I had several people thank me for it and one express concern it was too political. pod.link/1669098407/e...

Well, I had a perfectly nice Epiphany sermon written two days ago. I’ve now scrapped 90% of it and started over to talk about Venezuela. Praying folks still hear Gospel and don’t close down if it sounds political.

Perhaps the “fixation” is because the President said multiple times, “We're going to run the country” and as Secretary of State Rubio himself said, “The 47th President of the United States is not a game player.

When he tells you that he's going to do something, when he's go- -- tells you he's going to address a problem, he means it.” That was yesterday. Now a day later he complains we’re fixated on what the President said?
