I suppose if we’re not going to make the streets safer for women, the least we can do is make gherkins more affordable.

Two ducks sat at a restaurant table, reading the menus while the waiter hovers. One duck says "I wish we hadn't filled up on all that bread."

This was difficult to put down. Different perspectives on an ever growing snowball of wrong moves, iffy decisions and awful pop industry behaviour. Dark humour and wry observations galore. Great debut. #Booksky

It doesn't come any more adorable than living in a house together with the band's name on the doorbell.

On Saturday afternoon I picked up Nick Heyward’s newly published autobiography and I simply couldn’t put it down until the small hours of the following morning. Here’s why. www.patreon.com/posts/173424...

Another human endorsement for our new album. Come on, it's Saturday night, you're all set for slightly drunk shopping. I know I am (non-slip doormat in basket).

Here is the new album by The Bionics, entitled NEON DEUTSCHLAND. Harking back to the days when you might bump into someone interesting on a West German street corner. It comes digitally & physically. Danke schön @neondeutschland.bsky.social thesonsofsilence1.bandcamp.com/album/neon-d...

The replies are an extraordinary catalogue of things that have objectively improved. If we didn't have the climate crisis and the far right authoritarians and the tech barons overshadowing everything I'd be whistling every day

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Good. When I was in Munich for Kraftwerk I went to the station and asked for a return to Berchtesgaden. The man at the ticket window said "But you know the Eagle's Nest is closed for the winter?" And a big part of me sighed deeply. www.theguardian.com/world/2026/o...

(for the avoidance of doubt I sighed at his assumption that the only reason an English bloke would go there was to visit Hitler's gaff. I wanted to climb beautiful mountains so that I could look down on the thing while having a piss.)

Cataracts treated in outpatients. Stamps sold in shops. The end of Drill And Fill. Indoor smoking. AIDS treatments. Guns gone (UK) Global cuisine. Affordable musical instruments have improved in quality.

I remember the last time we were told to stockpile (not why though, early 2000s?). My gourmet brother and I discussed what to store and settled on things that are edible but not so tempting as to risk opening prematurely. My solution, still unopened, was this.

A class of 30 students all reading the same book. An obvious mistake. - John Cage

If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking. - Haruki Murakami, Norwegian Wood

Yeah, looks like they put a lot of effort into those costumes as well.

An Irish man lost his wedding ring in a river while on holiday in Italy, but three locals found it and went above and beyond to return it They flew all the way to Ireland dressed as hobbits, turning the rescue into a real-life Lord of the Rings adventure

I'm just waiting for my anti-fascist pie and chips with a delicious pint of anti-fascist Landlord and the jukebox is playing The Day Before You Came ♥️

Danny Tommo's 'patriot platform' vigilantes were refused service in The George Inn, Portsmouth. They demanded to know why, despite the fact they do not have to be given a reason. Always make bigots feel unwelcome. Show the pub some love for doing the right thing. Things you love to see ✊❤️

I've driven past it loads of times over the years, but it's a really nice, warm, friendly pub. Genuinely amiable staff. The food's not going to give The Devonshire any sleepless nights but the beer is really good.

#NowPlaying an extraordinary find, it's 33rpm and the A side sounds like it's made up entirely of false starts, that slow floaty twiddly stuff before it all kicks off, but it never kicks off and therefore sounds like Heaven.

A joyful thread to lift the heart

i am on a plane sitting next to a lady who looks 40ish and has informed me that this is her first time flying she is visibly excited. she asked the flight attendant how much a soda costs and was happy to learn that drinks are free on airplanes. she's taking lots of pictures. i love this for her

THIS is what I love about this place: both the best record I've heard and the best book I've read in ages I would have never heard of had not been for my timeline.

I don't watch GBNews on principle generally, but this is AAAAGGHHH funny. I can't imagine what the gallery are saying during this. "Great content" probably.

The "Public Service Broadcasting In Crisis" strap round this magnificent clip off perfectly

Good good good for The George resisting these turds.

Oh I knew I had one: Hugh Grant was looked after by the same publicist for the whole of his career until June 1995 when he wrote to her "I love you like a sister but I need someone who can get me on the front pages", got a new PR. Two weeks later he was caught with a sex worker on Sunset Strip.

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.

One can easily see how the father's influence led to the son co-composing classics such as 'The Itchy Glowbo Blow' and 'Frou Frou Foxes In Midsummer Fires'.

Oh no I'm at the I Want To Know What Happens With This Wonderful Book But I Don't Want It To End stage...

Mambo's on French New Wave watching duty this weekend, so Diesel and I are loving, gripped by, the sheer poetry of this Canadian wonder. Actual poetry too. #BookSky

Mexican food in London has always seemed a bit of an oxymoron to me, but then I think of tacos as Mexican vol-au-vents so I'm hardly an expert. But despite its unprepossessing site in the not-hip end of Bermondsey, Adelita is an absolute joy. And joyfully busy on a wet Tuesday evening. #FoodSky

I promise I'm not being funny here: I always found, in moments of deep stress and acute sadness, singing the phrase "And it's going to be Alright" (Sterling Void/Pet Shop Boys). Maybe it's the breathing, or the ridiculousness of it, but it's pulled me back from a brink many times.
