We had a lovely week in Montreal! Bixi is an incredible service and there’s good cycling just about everywhere. And tons of people doing it. We could have this in #BikeHfx.

It seems my bike good mayor bad sign blew off my bike during my peninsula #BikeHfx ride earlier. If you find it let me know! You can keep it if you want, just trying to not litter 😅

There are a handful of days per year in Halifax that cycling is truly impractical. The rest are up to @hfxgov.bsky.social and, unfortunately, @nsgov.bsky.social more and more. I say this as someone who gets cold very easily. I use heated gloves when it gets below 0 or so.

Hey. Hi. Hello. In the latest HFX By Bike I talk about winter cycling in Halifax. With weather data, international bike counter comparisons and fit checks. youtu.be/ftOroV7XZz8?...

Thanks to the planter of the Romans and Bayers/102 MUP flowers. The big sunflowers just popped open this week!

I’m playing music in Halifax this weekend! Two jazz big bands are putting on a concert Saturday 2 - 4 pm. It’s at the Army Navy Air Force Club at 2409 Maynard. Pay what you can at the door. It is a bar but I’m told all ages are welcome for the concert.

Yes, nice, the demolishing of everything related to the mayor has begun

Little #BikeHfx trip down to the library to pick up a hold is such a nice way to get out for some activity after a lazy and rainy morning

Cars, on the Halifax peninsula: Top speed 120-300(!) km/h, frequently stopped Me, on my bike: Top speed ~30 km/h, frequently going 20

Probably all cleared up by now, but: a dog did their business right in the middle of the Salter crosswalk across Hollis, stalling vehicle traffic. A powerful statement. I was able to roll on by in the unaffected #BikeHfx portion.

@seebo429.bsky.social when I was getting set up to film the ride at the diverter an older couple came through and were talking about a bag that had been there but was gone. They said it had "sometimes I get carried away" written on it, and that it must have been! Sounded like something you would do.

It infers trips from some data changing so not perfect but probably pretty good. Thanks to @jeremy77.bsky.social for the inspo!

The new #VictoriaBC bike share saw a lot of use over the sunny long weekend. Hitting a record 1,640 trips on Sunday. For context Vancouver's Mobie bike share recorded 4,661 trips on the same day @vancouver.raccoon.bike. Per capita Victoria is doing very well!

My espresso machine is broken so I’ve been doing my #BikeHfx peninsula loop a bit earlier to get my morning coffee somewhere. Set out even earlier today hoping I’d see even more cycling activity. I was not disappointed!

For some reason there are newly-planted trees on Bayers Rd just east of the rail bridge. What. (there should be an extension of the MUP there to either a MUP to replace the bridge sidewalk or a new AT bridge)

Nice to see this going in to make it easier for folks walking and rolling to get into the Almon Shoppers parking lot. The whole Richmond Yards area needs more pedestrian friendly changes, such as a mid block crossing for Shoppers.

Key findings: CAP shifts the tax burden onto non‑capped properties The gap between market and taxable values is widening CAP creates substantial inequities among homeowners New buyers face “tax shock” Rental market inequities are significant CAP benefits are unevenly distributed

District‑level disparities are pronounced “The CAP discourages buying, selling, and renovating due to the loss of eligibility, reducing market mobility and potentially suppressing deed transfer revenue.”

I want to see your own videos of intersections during your commute! Take a video and place the intersection line, then get a live multi-modal intersection count. It can count bikes vs vehicles, as well as pedestrian vs vehicles. www.observingthecity.ca/video-counter

Seems possible! H was generally busier than last Saturday all day but a definite bump week over week starting around 3:30.

Fitting that the ninth anniversary of the first time Mike Savage said "come hell or high water, we are going to be a bike-friendly community" falls on this month's #KidicalMassHfx ride. Some progress has been made but it has been and remains glacial.

It's funny (sad) to see some quotes in the article about timelines, "it's about who's going to be on one in five years, in 10 years," etc. 10 years is next year! And we still haven't done a darn thing to help getting on/off the bridge on the Halifax side.

Despite all that, the community is strong and getting stronger. People just want to get around in ways that are safe, efficient, fun, and easy. Cycling can be one of those ways if we give folks the support to do it.

Lovely summer evening ride to the Bravo Festival's Bird Watch circus show at the Bella Rose Arts Centre attached to Halifax West HS. Conditions varied along the way!

Also saw the beginnings of the Bayers Rd construction closure. Too many cars! And too many drivers using the bus lanes.
