Very excited about #LFC right hand side. Jacquet & Araujo doing the job by any means necessary, then Barcola the epitome of pace & threat, and when he tires, bring Rio on to really give them the horrors. Lovely stuff.

Looks like I missed some mad game for #LFC, but I'm just back from watching the mighty Steeleye Span at Buxton Opera House. Lovely venue, my favourite band, nothing not to like. First time seeing & hearing Athena Octavia on fiddle for Steeleye - she's some musician. Marvellous night.

Very entertaining game of football, that. Jacquet + Araujo > van Dyke + Gomez Barcola obvious MotM for hat-trick, but Frimpong was absolutely fantastic - headed goal, how many assists(?) and defending. Rio's game has become so much better - much more variety in his play. #LFC

Before heading home this morning, I had a little sit down outside the visitor centre at Leighton Moss and was accosted by this pair of mallards who are clearly used to treats from visitors. #birds #phonephotography

Another from this morning - this one showing a male and a female bearded reedlings on one of the grit trays. Male on left, female right. They ingest grit to help break down the hard seeds that form their diet. #birds #photography

Just back from RSPB Leighton Moss, where I finally saw some of these little guys. It's a male bearded reedling, and this is the first half-decent shot that came up, as I wade through 1,837 photos taken this morning. There may be more to come (hopefully). #birds #lifer #photography

Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is #LookingDown; any bird looking down/head lowered and the Alt. is #LookingUp; any bird looking up/head raised. For once, I'm doing them both in one post, with gannets at Bempton Cliffs earlier this year. #birds #photography

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Brown, any bird with brown in its plumage, so here's a black-tailed godwit resplendent in its summer plumage, from back in July of this year. #birds #photography

Today's #BirdofTheDay theme is #Green, any birds or backgrounds that have green in them. This carrion crow was looking down on me the other day. #birds #photography

Well, that was a bit scary. Just installed firmware updates on both camera body and big wildlife lens. Both appear to have been successful. 📷 🤞

I had the pleasure of serving the Three Degrees with meals, back in 1975 or 76, at Charnock Richard motorway services, in the early hours one morning.

Born 8 October 1947 - US singer Sheila Ferguson from The Three Degrees. She sang lead vocals on most of the group's biggest hits, most notably the 1974 'When Will I See You Again', which was a huge success, topping the UK Singles Chart and reaching no 2 on the US chart. #SheilaFerguson

All three were absolutely delightful, friendly and chatty, seemingly pleased with the food I made them. We were somewhat used to entertainers calling in for refreshments - pop groups, and stand up comedians mainly, but very few* were as down-to-earth as the Three Degrees, and, to be fair, as famous.

Some of the other staff asked for autographs, and they were duly rewarded, each member of the group signing their name with '3°' underneath. Given that this was over 50 years ago, it feels way more recent. "Marti Caine was also lovely.

It was quiet in the cafeteria and I wasn't doing much when I was suddenly aware of these three walking towards my position. They were in long evening dresses and little short fur jackets, high heels and big hair. Just them - no entourage or anything.

As a young bloke of 18 or 19, it was an extraordinary experience for me. We had a limited menu (standard 1970s motorway cafeteria fare), but the couple of minutes I spent helping them to choose their meals left a forever impression on me.

Got a few shots of this great egret today. There were a lot of tall grasses and whatnot between me and the egret, so very few completely clear shots, but I like some of them anyway. #birds #photography

#BirdOfTheDay theme today is #BestOfTheMonth. Due to one thing and another, I've done very little photography this month, but just managed to sneak this one in on the 2nd - a long-tailed tit that I was really pleased to see. #birds #photography

#BirdOfTheDay theme is #EFG, birds beginning with any of those letters (1st name) and the Alt theme is #Paridae, any of the species. I am therefore claiming a twofer with this Great tit, a member of the Paridae. #birds #photography

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #BokehBirds - any bird captured with a soft, muted or blurry background. I think this robin meets the brief. #birds #photography

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Borbs, birds looking plump, and the Alt theme is #Brown, birds with brown in their plumage, so I reckon this robin constitutes a twofer. #birds #photography

Of all the books we've been recommended for our #HumanistBookshelf, Carl Sagan's The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark has been recommended more than any other. It's easy to see why.

Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Raptors and the Alt is #Corvids. Turns out I got shots of both during a session at Willow Tree Fen, Lincolnshire, back in July. The raptor is a marsh harrier and the corvid, a carrion crow (probably). #birds #photography
