One of my favorite designers is having a sale.

Gabe @ Lucky 13@lucky13toys.bsky.social

I'm participating in the Black Friday sale on Printables! From now through the end of November, everything in my Store is 30% off. Grab any of the 13 Series design files for $3.50, and enjoy a discount on my premium models like Thor and the Dragon Action Figure.

I made a new clamping jig for 1x2 tubes on the CNC. This should put an end to problems with cuts not parallel to the workpiece.

I did my annual re-watch of "Over the Garden Wall" last night. It never disappoints. If you've never seen it, go do it. It's 10 episodes of about 10 minutes each. Watch them all in a row. October is the perfect time of year for it.

No spoilers but expect to be entertained but bewildered through most of it. Only in the last two episodes is everything made clear and then wow.

Ok, I had to do the long one over but I corrected the CAM and it worked this time.

Things were going so well until suddenly they weren't.

The bit had slipped by 6mm during the last pass. Possibly it had slipped more before that. When it broke there was less than 8mm of the bit held by the collet. Yikes!

My mistake was thinking I could mill a slot 7/8 in deep in oak, even using 1/8 stepdowns. When the chips couldn't escape, they grabbed the up-cut spiral bit and pulled it down. I should have used an extra roughing pass to create space around the bit.

I bought four spools of Polymaker ASA CF filament and I'm trying to dial in a profile for it. Along the way I'm finding potential issues with belt tension on my Prusa Mini. So I've been tweaking things and reprinting these califlowers all day. At this point I've printed half a 500g spool!

Print quality and accuracy are MUCH better than where I started, though. This material will be great for FRC robotics season.

I'm new to Atomoxetine. Any of my contacts here have any experience with it?

I just picked up a new prescription for ADHD. So I guess I'm officially in the club now. The doc explained there are different meds and doses and this one takes weeks to take effect. So here's hoping we started with the right one.

One of my assumptions when I CNC things is that if I clamp against something the machine cut itself, my workpiece is aligned with the machine axis. But this is quite far off. The machine's homing must be causing this. And it's going to cause me a lot of grief now.

Yikes! The carriage has about 3/16 difference on left and right. WTF?!

Rehoming it makes it better but with that kind of variability I need a different approach. For one thing, I should be milling these long tubes parallel to the Y axis instead of X.

I got my COVID and flu shots yesterday evening. Today started off fine but the fatigue has now set in. Nap time.

Proof of nap.

I took a nice little break from life's more demanding tasks today to make something neat for a friend.

I don't know if it's supposed to be a surprise so I'll wait to reveal it later.

At my last doctor's visit, I got a referral for an ADHD evaluation. (Yay!) But the provider I was referred to has a waiting list. Today they called back, not to say they could schedule a visit, but to clarify I was on a waiting list for an office two counties away from where I live.

Because the branches of their practice in my county don't take my insurance. Grrrr. (P.S. There's no universal healthcare horror story that isn't already worse than what we have today in the US.)

Update: I found another provider and made an appointment for next week. (Please clap.)

archive.orgCreative Computing MagazineCreative Computing was one of the earliest magazines covering the microcomputer revolution. Published from October 1974 until December 1985, the magazine covered the spectrum of hobbyist/home/personal...

When I showed my first signs of interest in Computers, my Dad brought home a couple issues of Creative Computing he got from someone at work. I remember reading the article "Landing the Nostromo" and barely understanding a word of it. archive.org/details/crea...

Anyway, 45 years later (unbelievable!), I watched "Alien" for the first time last night and today I had to look up that old article and let the nostalgia wash over me.

The weirdest thing happened to me last night. I took some Benadryl before bed. Then, I kept waking up with something like restless leg syndrome. But the "restless" thing that was triggering me to shift position wasn't my leg. It was the concept of lifetime annotations in my Rust code: <'a>.

Perhaps its worth mentioning the Benadryl was past its expiration date.

17 Sept

I was in the zone, coding again today. I have all the BNO08x sensor reports implemented in my new Rust driver now.

17 Sept

I coded up 20 more sensor reports in my Rust BNO08x driver today. 16 to go and they are all detector/classifier things.

16 Sept

I've was feeling good today and got into that flow state writing some code. I've been sharpening my Rust programming skills, writing a new driver for the BNO08x IMU. Hopefully I've have enough working to publish it soon.

2 Sept

Bad news from my doctors visit today: I'm no longer 6 feet tall. Just 5 foot 11. Is this what they mean by "over the hill?"

23 June

For the past three days I've been trying to modify this build process to enable the WiFi interface on this dev board. And FINALLY, I had another breakthrough and got it working. (More details in the responses.)

David Wheeler@daveofthings.bsky.social

Breakthrough! After a few days of struggling, I got a PYNQ build to boot on a Snickerdoodle One. This post is too hyper-specific for anyone to get, but I'm too happy to just let it go unannounced. :-)

23 June

Back around March, I first got this dev board, the Snickerdoodle One, to boot up PYNQ 3.2.1 with WiFi. And now I want to write up the build process in a blog article but I discovered I hadn't done things in a way the PYNQ docs recommend.

23 June

So I've been trying to use their recommended process and blend in all the custom steps I need. It's been rough. There are so many steps and the process is so fragile. But just now I got everything I wanted running. Now to write it up so it's repeatable. Fingers crossed it doesn't just break again.
