#seattle - anybody interested in an AirBed? Or an inflatable 3 seater sofa? I am clearing out things - happy to open DMs to the interested. Also have some general prepping supplies we are not moving, some tools and assorted office stuff.

Well as I suspected I tested negative today. Not sure that’s making me feel any better but it’s something.

I don’t know if anybody has read The Stainless Steel Rat for President but gosh go I have vibes from that tonight.

Day 2 with Covid - probably more than that. Apart from what is now a mild cough I’m entirely asymptomatic but it’s nice having some time off packing and work. I’ll take a light day tomorrow then retest. Suspect I’ll be good in another day.

How in the name of Hades can I still be finding these little buggers on me. I could have sworn I found them all this morning.

Started watching a recap for season 2 of a show and realized we had no memory of season 1. So I guess we’re watching Season 1 again. It looked interesting…

1. basic D&D 2. advanced D&D 3. Traveller 4. Paranoia 5. CoC I’ll not claim to have played a lot of CoC. Never grabbed me.

Paul M. Cray@pmc.bsky.social

1. AD&D 2. Traveller 3. RuneQuest 4. CoC 5. Not sure, but I remember playing Judge Dread I had lots more games I don't think I ever played beyond rolling up characters like James Bond 007, Chivalry & Sorcery and Golden Heroes

Well what happens in Vegas apparently doesn’t always stay there as I brought some Covid home with me. Yay :( A nighttime trip to ER for shortness of breath as a 50-something gets you through triage quickly.

Things that annoy me. People saying they control the window blinds on planes and mocking people not sitting in the window seat. There’s this star in our solar system called the ‘sun’. At certain times of day it shines into plane cabins and can be really unpleasant for people in…

… different parts of the cabin often nowhere near the windows. Having a wee bit of consideration for others seems far too much to ask for apparently.

Hmmm. I think it was The Golden Voyage of Sinbad in around 1974… Then definitely At The Earth’s Core and The Spy Who Loved Me. There were probably others but based on release dates they’re ones I remember.

The Towering Inferno, 1974, Fort William (‘cinema’ was above a pub?)… five years old… classic disaster film. Good parenting.

For those outside the US wondering why voting here seems to take a while - my ballot had, in addition to the congressional election, 4 initiatives including an anti-trans one some bellends got onto the ballot, a dozen county positions including courts and judges, and some local council positions.

What grimly amuses me about this stuff, as a keen follower of ‘Bond vigilantes’ over the last 20 years that none of the factors driving this have anything to do with what I was assured was going to drive up Bond prices.

bluesky users who are triggered by finance people posting charts and going 'oof' might want to look away now. French 10ys - eeshhhh mon dieu zut alors, etc

Home after that Vegas. I worked. The other half didn’t. I am knackered. We did do some fun stuff. But the 30ish singer jokingly calling me his dad landed badly :)

I think it’s very clear from the books that Sam Vimes wouldn’t trust Sam Vimes either and he fully understood that paradox.

When i say ACAB i DO mean Sam Vimes of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch but i still like hum

From a conversation last night over cocktails about updating stories and including Zombies. the Lion, the Witch and the Winchester.

Love me some FedEx delivery going the wrong way up our one way street. Really love it when they are delivering to us.

Median. It’s better than averages for income discussions but it’s always bothered me. US median household income is $87k(ish). For the population below median there’s an actual floor - it’s $0. The bottom 10% get $20k a year. So a $67k delta from median to the bottom percentile. But.

Top 10% $267k. They are making 2x the entire median on top of the median. But that 10% includes the top 1% who are making 7x(?) more than the rest of the 10% It gets worse when you look above the 1% but the lowest income percentiles still can’t earn less than 0.

Even around the median, there’s huge differences in just above or below and yet it’s used as a bit of a slam dunk by some over how rich the US actually is. Anyway. Bit abstract thinking for grey Saturday eh?

But Chocolate Hobnobs are posh aren’t they?

Stephen Collins@stephencollins.bsky.social

I asked you your favourite biscuit and you said 'oh a hob nob' or 'digestive' or 'bourbon' and you thought it would make me think you authentic and real but you should have said 'the poshest ones I can find for the posh ones are the best' as that is the truth you hide and now I know you are a coward

I am trying to work through The Magician’s Nephew revised timeline. Some suggest the Pevensies are there for COVID which makes the professor older than the book timeline but possible. I think TLtWaW should be 00s and Edmund is there on an ASBO. It would explain a lot.

Can't reply - but the video is a bit weird TBH and the pie does not look nice and liquor does basically task like water with parsley in it because it IS basically water with parsley in it :)

Mary Branscombe@marypcbuk.bsky.social

I didn't actually watch the video, I just do like that style of pie from time to time - I also miss those tall suet pies in foil cases they used to do at the chippy in my childhood, which would spill gravy all over the chips when you pulled them out. multitudes I say!

Did a briefing with a journalist on [thing] - it was a bit out there as an AI/Banking/APIs scenario but the conversation went something like one of the rolling Waldorf & Salter skits. Well, that's not really plausible... I suppose given that this is happening... But then you'd need to have this...

Ok, so 1) that pie looks crap, 2) I have never met anybody who likes liquor over a nice gravy and 3) the last person I know who liked Jellied Eels died of old age in 1977. Dude - go for a Greggs - get settled in with a nice bacon sandwich, have a curry... get something else.

4 weeks today I should be arriving in Walla Walla on the first leg of my drive to NJ. After 20 years here the end is kinda racing up. We should have the attic mostly empty tomorrow which is a milestone. My office is mostly down to basics. Next up triaging the basement.

In other news, my Spanish lesson was completely derailed by a discussion about beer but at least I know all the key things I need to know now about ordering beer in Spain.

I swear to ghods that most of the guys moaning about the casting of Hunter Shaffer in BR2099 are upset because they didn't realize who she is and are now feeling uncomfortable for some weird reason they can't explain.

I am mostly convinced that the destruction of data centers alone cannot explain what I have seen happen on Threads over the weekend. But I am now suspecting a LOT of the troll farms are relatively co-located to them for infrastructure and bandwidth purposes that there is a 2nd order effect in play.

In case people here have missed it. Things have been weird in other social networks. And by ‘weird’ I mean normal. You can post about trans rights without being swarmed. Or make a Brexit comment without PatriotGB472975 telling you you’re a traitor.

Enjoying one of my last turns in the tub before it gets picked up. I have enjoyed this. Possibly the most ridiculous thing I ever bought but so so so nice.

Attic triaged. Everything being moved is now ready for reboxing. There is some stuff that needs to be brought down to be tossed. Any recs on books?

I think this might be the most functionally useless book for the US that I have found that isn’t technically out of date.
