Hey Riftbounders! Wanted to give a heads-up on an upcoming Set 4 ban. With Chaos + Order possible now, Stealthy Pursuer from Origins enables a 3-card infinite. We’re not opposed to infinite combos by default - but after internal testing, this one warrants a proactive ban. 1/3

We’re continuing discussions about the format and if we want to make any additional card or battlefield bans, but we wanted to be direct about this as it is more of a patch for the game than a reaction to the meta. 2/3

As for timing: heard your fb that our previous effective date was too soon after the announcement. So, to give players more time, the Set 4 rules update and ban(s) will be announced Thu, July 16 at 6 PM PT and will take effect on Friday, July 24, with the Vendetta Pre-Rift. 3/3

Hey Riftbounders - we've discovered an area of ambiguity causing confusion for judges globally that is centered around the rules for copying tokens, such as with LeBlanc and Reflection tokens. (1/7)

My and the team’s job as stewards for Riftbound is to make decisions which we believe are best for Riftbound and our community. There is no perfect solution for handling this situation, but we believe this to be the least disruptive decision for players globally. (6/7)

We believe Vendetta reaching release parity for English and Chinese, along with the changes we have implemented for how our rules are developed, will help avoid a rules issue like this happening again. Thank you all for your understanding! (7/7)

However, while this is valid for the rules as written, this is not our design intent. We will be revising these rules with July’s Vendetta Rules Update. (4/7)

Why not change now? We have both RQ Sydney & the Suzhou Minor this weekend and it would be disruptive and unfair to players who have already been playing under this guidance from their local judges if we were to implement this change now. (5/7)

Hey Riftbounders - we've discovered an area of ambiguity causing confusion for judges globally that is centered around the rules for copying tokens, such as with LeBlanc and Reflection tokens. (1/7)

With Unleashed’s launch in China, their judge community received official guidance from us that tokens copy everything about the unit including whether the unit is a token or card and this replaces the copy’s trait with this information. (2/7)

This means if a Reflection copies a unit, such as Loyal Poro, the Reflection token becomes a Loyal Poro card and stops being a token. So it won't count as a token, and can’t be chosen by spells or abilities which choose tokens. If a Reflection token copies a Bird token, it remains a token. (3/7)

Hey Riftbounders! TL;DR (more in the thread - 1/11) 1: We're discussing card bans in the near future based on overly-dominant play patterns, but none to announce today, nor an expected date for bans.

That’s all for today - it’s been so exciting and humbling for both myself and the entire Riftbound team to watch the community grow and see new decks and strategies emerge from players all around the world. (10/11)

Keep the questions, suggestions, and feedback coming. We’ll do our best to continue to stay transparent and proactive with updates like these, and thanks as always for your continued support! (11/11)

We also have a rules update arriving March 30. This update includes support for the upcoming Unleashed mechanics and improvements to rules clarity around penalties, judge rewinds, ambiguities, and other edge cases. (8/11)

Until those updates arrive, rulings may vary slightly between events by region and players should continue to follow the rulings provided by their local judges. (9/11)

We’re watching as the meta continues to develop and reviewing the data, and no final calls have been made quite yet. We’ll wait until after the Shenzhen Major Open in late March before making any changes. (6/11)

As we promised, we’ve committed to not making large changes so close to competitive events to try and ensure players have a chance to playtest and adapt. (7/11)

As we shared last month, our philosophy is that bans should only be used as a last resort. For us to remove a card from play, there needs to be a strong and specific reason, and we must firmly believe the change will significantly improve the player experience. (4/11)

We're watching the meta evolve after Spiritforged, in large competitive events like the four Minor Opens held in China along with RQs in Bologna & Vegas, and have been keeping a close eye on strategies that may be becoming too dominant / creating frustrating play patterns. (2/11)

We promised to keep you updated if we were considering bans, and based on what we’re seeing we’ve begun internal discussions about the possibility. (3/11)

2: Expect a separate rules update on 3/30 for the new mechanics being introduced in our next Set, Unleashed, as well as a few clarities around penalties, judge rewind, edge cases, and more. Read on for more!

As you all saw, Spiritforged preorders went fast today. We know it was a frustrating experience for a lot of you. Overall, we saw two major issues: first, even with ~50 percent more product than Origins, we still didn’t have enough to meet demand. (1/9)

Our team is made up of core TCG players and fans - we know how frustrating it is to feel like you didn’t even get a shot at getting cards. We don't have all the solutions, and it'll be an ongoing process, but we're deeply invested in improving here. (8/9)

You might've seen fluctuations in items going in and out of stock, which is what happens when orders are cancelled by the antibot measures our ecommerce site has in place, and someone tries to purchase that same item again. (6/9)

Some of those fraudulent purchases got through, though - even if they weren’t canceled by those antibot measures, we're still able to detect them. We’ll continue to thoroughly investigate the situation and implement proper solutions to reopen preorders as soon as possible. (7/9)

We’re working on a new plan to reopen a significant amount of Spiritforged preorders to give players a fair and stable way to purchase cards. We’ll share details as soon as we have a clear path forward. (4/9)

Here’s a bit more background on what happened today from our side: due to the volume of traffic created by both legitimate purchasers and bots, our prevention was slow to take hold, and unfortunately resulted in a rush of fraudulent orders placed by bots. (5/9)

Second, the sales process was overwhelmed by a mix of real traffic from Riftbounders and bots. We’re in the process of canceling all fraudulent orders. If you’re a real player who placed an order, your order will remain valid and it will still ship. (2/9)

To prevent bots from cycling back in and claiming that inventory again, we’ve paused preorders. Our priority remains getting Riftbound cards into the hands of real players as quickly as possible. (3/9)

Are you going to be at PAX Unplugged? I'm doing a panel on Riftbound with Jimmy Wong! Lots of cool stuff about the development of the game, Spiritforged (our 2nd set), and the fuuuutuuurrreee :D
