Lands End blue button down and gray slacks, blue and white tie, Seiko, black Cole Haan Oxfords. I'm a little wrinkled today as the advertisement of "no wrinkle" appears to have lied to me.

Early birthday dinner today. Jeans, light blue button down, brown tweed sport jacket (with patches, ‘natch), Seiko Divers, brown Cole Haan Oxfords.

I asked Alexa to play the greatest pop song of all time and it chose Brilliant Disguise by Bruce Springsteen, a song I love but…best pop song of all time?

I went into the city for a meeting yesterday, and for the 1st time in my life, I timed everything right. I never had to wait for a train and on the drive home from the PATH, I hit 0 red lights. Crazy.

Yesterday, was the 19th anniversary of WHEN ONE MAN DIES pub date. It was my debut novel. In year 20, big things are coming for Jackson Donne.

And if we are talking all time MacGyver was better than all these shows. No one on these shows caught fish with gum wrappers.

I choose Better Call Saul over Mad Men The Wire over Better Call Saul Breaking Bad over The Wire Slow horses and Justified were underrated. BUT IT IS ALL OPINION

This was flat out one of the best Bond novels I read. Up there with the best of Fleming. I enjoyed the heck out of it, surprising to me as I didn’t like his first one…

Third consecutive year of running the SAX 4 miler. Finished in 38:39, which is 7 seconds slower than last year but still fast for me (my first mile was at a 9:09 pace). But not compared to these two speed demons. The hills in this race are brutal, but we finished!

Favorite Bond Opening Gambits: Skyfall: "Take the bloody shot." The Living Daylights: "Hang on, you're dead!" Goldfinger: "Shocking. Positively shocking." Tomorrow Never Dies: "What's he doing?" "His Job." For Your Eyes Only: "I trust you had a pleasant "fright"!"

There‘s been a lot of good crime fiction reflecting the tragedy of 9/11, with ABSENT FRIENDS by SJ Rozan and SMALL TOWN by Lawrence Block being my favorite novel, but by far my favorite 9/11 crime fiction story is CLOSURE by @davewhite.bsky.social thrillingdetective.com/2023/04/01/c...

My thoughts are with Coach Pikes, his family and the team. One of the nicest guys I’ve met at Rutgers and a good coach to boot. You got this, Coach!

Steve Pikiell announced he’s being treated for cancer and his intention to coach this season with Brandin Knight leading when he’s absent. I’ve added a bit of context: www.app.com/story/sports...

Social media did not exist the last time they cast a new Bond. Rutgers football in crisis. I may need my phone locked away from me the next few weeks.

I hate being lectured online, so I don’t intend this to be a lecture, but a reflection. Thinking out loud if you will. Sometime in the next year, I will have a new book out. It will be my 7th book published in 20 years. (I know when I just can’t tell you yet. What’s an author without a vague post)

It’s not the book-a-year I’d dreamed of when I started, but it’s seven published books. I’ve kind of done it all, big NYC publisher, self-publish, small publisher and now Open Road, who are legit great. And, in the twenty years I’ve done this, all I can say is that I keep writing.

I come up with story ideas. Some work (the Jackson Donne novels, WITNESS TO DEATH) and some are in various stages of… maybe they’ll work someday. I just want to keep writing and putting books out there. Maybe it’s years of experience that has given me this POV… but I feel pretty lucky.
