David Graeber explained that one of the ways that Neoliberalism functions is through hopelessness. Our hope is killed until we think there is no point anymore and we just give up. Lula's amazing victory shows there still is hope. We should never give up!!!

Why is the word violence used when a protester in France smashes a window, but not used when French police assault protesters? Is it somehow no longer violence if the action is committed by an employee of the state?

'Time poverty' is one of modern capitalism’s least discussed forms of deprivation. When a person has no hours in a day to see friends, to recover, and to relax, life becomes something squeezed around work.

Funny enough I’m actually coming around to this but from the unexpected angle of being incredibly jaded around consumption of creative works (see all posts bemoaning how ‘we could have 10,000 more superstars at the same time’ and its practical impossibility with Time As Currency)

Conservatives complain about the BIG STATE but they don't hate the state. They just hate when the state is used to help people, especially the poor & vulnerable. But when the state protects assets, builds prisons, arms cops, rescues banks & enforces rent, they love the state.

"I’m thinking of a labor movement, but one very different than the kind we’ve already seen. A labor movement that manages to finally ditch all traces of the ideology that says that work is a value in itself, but rather redefines labor as caring for other people." - David Graeber

A reminder that all the aspects of our economic system are made up and we can have a better system if we wanted to. Homelessness for example. We could have an economy that builds homes for homeless people. It does not have to be this way.
