Went swimming off Bartolome Island. Met some new people

And the Galapagos Hawk deserves a post of its own

A walk to the top, then a boat trip around Bartolome Island

You'll all be pleased to hear that my inter island boat trip has WiFi.

Things they didn't tell me about the Galapagos - 1. There would be a White-cheeked Pintail duck greeding at the breakfast table

Met some pals on the way to the hotel

A first glimpse of San Cristobal, where Darwin initially landed in the Galapagos in September 1835.

Just to get rid of her

Off to the Galapagos today. Looking forward to the variation seen in a certain type of bird.

Sitting in a garden on a hill outside Quito and looking at birds

Leaving the jungle for an overnight stay outside Quito, then off to the Galapagos tomorrow.

Running v late this morning, so just a quick crane video for now

It's nearly 2.30pm here and afternoon plans include going piranha fishing then taking a ride up in a box being lifted by this crane.

And the payoff for the vertigo

Yet more absurd heights and wobbly legs - the canopy walkway @sacha_lodge is three towers nearly 100 ft high connected by a walkway 300 yards long. The views are spectacular

And there was an owl. Or two, but only one of them gave us a dirty look

And thirdly, we took part in a project run by the local Huaorani people to reintroduce river turtles. I got to meet the little fellow before I released him or her into the River Napo

Secondly, I demonstrated that passing monkeys have little to fear from me and my blowpipe

It's 5.15 am in the jungle. The early mornings irk a bit, but you can't knock last night's sunset.

The video was a bit blurry and so all my own work

Had some help to spot Pygmy Marmosets, the world's smallest monkey. Probably.

Reckon this will do. Sound up.

If anyone wants some Blue-footed Booby slippers, Quito Airport has you covered

Met this Purple Throated Woodstsr yesterday and she agreed to be in a short film. She's only 7 cm tall, so we're calling it 'Hummingous' as a little joke.

Made some new friends, but they're a tad flighty. Bribed with sugar water.

Great views of the Pululahua Crater outside Quito, although v sad for budding canine ornithologists that they can't do their twitching

Ordering margaritas, empanadas and the chorizo platter in central Quito, nearly 2900m up in the Andes. And yet we're watching Watford v Charlton Athletic

Brief view of Colombia when the sun came up. Now off to Ecuador.

Best thing about flying business class with Avianca - the pyjamas provided which make you look like a Druid out for a sacrifice

Just made the mistake of looking into what 'migao' is. It appears to be hot chocolate with cheese dissolved into it, eaten with stale bread or biscuits. Yum.

Went to Heathrow both wearing the identical fleeces we bought when it was freezing in Botswana.

When you're flying to Bogotá - El Dorado airport

Michael rather squished the house she inherited from Dayve (no least because she kept demolishing the walls) but she has helped me build her a new one

Lovely morning for a walk in the woods on the Common. Broadleaf Woodland today, but it'll be Andean Cloudforest on Wednesday and Amazonian Rainforest from Thursday. Just to mix it up a bit.

Michael is watching a documentary about Ecuadorean wildlife, and seems fascinated by the Many-banded Aracari
