Schism makes you smart because you spend an hour learning to play the bass riff on some kid's bass in high school and then you play it over and over again and that's a new thing you learned

Patrick Cosmos@veryimportant.lawyer

Except Tool. The stuff they make that people call prog rock makes you stupid. Except “Schism.” “Schism” makes you smart

Gov. Jim Pillen of Nebraska has aligned himself with President Trump’s anti-immigrant agenda. But for more than a decade, his hog business has employed undocumented laborers, The New York Times and The Flatwater Free Press found. nyti.ms/4h39V4B

Unfortunately what you need is to shell out like, 30 bucks to go two miles on one of these.

Summer slump? Not on a holiday. It's literally still summer. So, undock a bike and make some memories on two wheels. ☀️🚲

SafeStreetsJC@safestreetsjerseycity.org

Earlier this month, yet another serious preventable crash happened on our city streets. SafeStreetsJC releases the following statement calling for rapid, low-cost quick-build improvements to all our serious and fatal crash locations, including left-turn calming and leading pedestrian intervals.

A handful of professional cyclists have been hit by cars before and during races this summer and it was inevitable that one of these crashes would end in death. It should be obvious by now that we persistently underestimate and ignore the danger that cars pose to people.

This was a great book, all the more impressive for the fact that @jonathanslaght.com managed to turn a second-hand account into an adventure story that felt really personal and urgent.

it's International Tiger Day! How about you pick up my book charting the remarkable recovery of Amur (Siberian) tigers in northeast Asia? It's got stinky biologists, harrowing adventure in the snow, & lots of tigers! @moonpalacebooks.bsky.social has signed copies: moonpalacebooks.com/item/f10yIDk...

🚲Bike JC🗽@bikejc.org

Cable cars/gondolas are often seen as an ineffective gimmick just for tourists. But they do fill a genuine transport niche in urban places with rough cliffs and ridges—like the Palisades in Hudson County. We should build some here.

I was not being hyperbolic about this

Firetrucks in jersey city heights are basically exclusively parked illegally on the sidewalk while the fellas mosey into a mediocre coffee shop for free lattes

I went to a state college very near Princeton, NJ and a freshman went missing and it was discovered that he'd died in an EXTREMELY specific way in what seemed like a horrible accident, and like, two months later, JCO wrote a short story with what can only be described as "almost identical" details.

"The narrative arc of Vance’s redemption is not long, and it bends toward power." The only good thing about JD Vance's new book is that it provides an excuse for smarter, better people to dissect and diagnose his odiousness in smarter, better essays, like this one in @commonwealmagazine.org.

commonwealmagazine.orgHillbilly EulogyOhio has known hucksters like J. D. Vance before. The state has a long memory for men who climb the ladder and then kick it down after them.

From @theathletic.com: When Victor Wembanyama went to Gramercy Park before Game 3 to sketch a statue, it was more than just having fun in his free time. It was his process. As he sat there, sketching Hamlet, he saw his perspective on a tragic figure.
