Who knows whether petitions are useful, but: When companies invest in DEI, they invest in people. Now's the time for Target to stand firm in its values, not retreat. Will you add your name to call on Target's leadership to reinstate its DEI programs? sign.moveon.org/petitions/ta...

Look, Ma, I’m a card-carrying member! (If you are not already supporting organizations like this with an automatic monthly donation, please consider it! Their online donor forms start at $5/month, and they are our best line of defense right now, along with the state AGs.)

I have just finished arrangements and orchestrations for AMT Theater's "Upside Down," which goes into rehearsal Monday. I didn't count the total number of bars, but the piano/vocal score is 178 pages. It's been a long month—I started with lead sheets!

Here's what I just did: left messages for Congressman Adriano Espaillat and Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand asking them to reach across the aisle and find Republicans who are willing to push back on 47's illegal executive actions, which abrogate Congress' powers.

I don't want echo-chamber hand-wringing. I want a calm, rational assessment of whether there are any potentially effective responses we should be making, whether to push back or simply to mitigate the effects. Anybody got anything like that?

Sometimes you see a musical that reminds you why you fell in love with musical theatre in the 1st place, and also reassures you that if it can be this good, this heartbreaking, this joyful, then maybe you haven’t been crazy to spend your whole life working on it after all. #maybehappyending

We're still scratching our heads about this episode. We finally got an address (verified by the rewards store) to return the Apple Watch this weekend, so I guess the story ends there? But if any more thieves want to give us money or send us presents, we won't say no. 4/4

We contacted the fraud department and were assured that they would restore the points. But then a couple days later, we received the Apple Watch at our apartment. Upon investigating, we realized that the points that had been redeemed for cash had been deposited in my wife's checking account. 3/4

There hadn't—whew! But then we realized that during the few minutes where the thieves had had access to our accounts, they had redeemed all our points, both to purchase an Apple Watch and for cash. 2/4

A couple of months ago we got a notice that the password to the online account to our credit card had been changed. We hadn't changed it. We immediately changed the user name and password and checked to see whether any new purchases had been made. 1/4

I just had instant oatmeal for breakfast for the first time in several decades (this is the hotel I'm staying at's idea of a complimentary breakfast). I don't remember it tasting quite so much like despair and defeat.

I don’t actually think we should punch Nazis. I think we should restrain them so they don’t pose a danger to themselves or others, as we would people with any other mental illness. At least until a treatment is developed.

You are up to date.
