I have seen, it is expressed in good faith and with careful and precise moral clarity. I say this as someone who has believed, and continues to believe, that Brad represents a very important voice in the pro-Palestine movement in NY and in the US as a whole. /3

ALSO, I want to add: There is still a bit of daylight between my own position and what Maté expresses here, and daylight as well between my position and the grief Brad expressed. Honestly I’m still trying to figure it out - what public grieving really is - and still don’t quite have the words. /4

I’ve been released from IDF custody with a “warning,” apparently because of my public profile (I told them I wasn’t even a congressmember yet, just a nominee). But several dozen rabbis & participants harvesting olives with me are still in detention.

Winter is coming up in Gaza where, as OCHA oPT reported in the middle of this month, an estimated 1.9 m Palestinians are in need of shelter/NFI assistance, ~1.2 m of whom are face critical or catastrophic level shelter needs, and 65% of all households are living in tents or makeshift shelters.

The 2.5 year old told me she wants to dress as a shoe for Halloween. We are…gonna do our best with this one. I think she has a Croc in mind but that might be above my pay grade.

This urgent and sweeping essay from Noura Erakat that I have just had the chance to read only reinforces my belief about UNSC Res 2803 and the so-called “Board of Peace.” The whole thing is worth a read. www.bostonreview.net/articles/exi...

Anyway, in reconsidering all this, I still think the Security Council resolution is horrifyingly capacious in what it endorses. /10

To clarify, the Gaza Ministry’s estimate comes from its report last week. I realize the link above to the news story in English may not be working, but I attach the graphic shared by the Ministry here. The UNICEF estimate is from almost a year ago. All of these are, of course, estimates.

When I did a quick search in Arabic, one of the first links that came up was the Ministry’s portal for relatives to register the bereaving child by uploading parents’ ID numbers and death certificates. 💔

I wish everyone would just take a moment to reflect on these numbers. This is roughly the entire K-12 student population of a city like Austin, TX. It is more than the K-12 population of the Twin Cities, for example.

Not enough people understand the importance of what he is doing. The people who do understand also understand the intellectual and moral loneliness of such a position — why everyone seems angry at him right now and why those who don’t are mostly quiet, too scared to come to his defense.

But that's harder.

Which is all a long-winded way of saying: These debates about Zionism and anti-Zionism are mostly unhelpful right now, and I wish everyone could just drop these terms unless speaking historically and talk about their political vision for the future in other terms.

... I do think it is pointless to argue with people about the implications of a term when you are defining the term differently from the start. All the logic underpinning statements like "A implies B" falls apart if we can't definitionally agree on what A is.

Sometimes, I think, it is easier to define concepts like colonialism, ethnic cleansing, apartheid, and genocide, and then confirm with our interlocutors that we are beginning from the shared premise that all of these things, using our mutually agreed upon definitions, are horrible.

But that's harder.

Palestinian homes and buildings demolished by Israeli forces in the West Bank, due to lacking permits, over a six-day period from September 15 to 21.👇

“Overall, the 87 structures included 30 homes, 49 agricultural and WASH structures, and eight other structures. The demolitions displaced 147 Palestinians, including 73 children…more than three times the 2026 weekly average of 43 people displaced on these grounds.”

Oddly, he seems to have Israeli citizenship. (Whether he is mainstream Satmar or Neturei Karta he is probably not safe there?) Bottom line: Trump's DHS views itself as the ultimate authority on antisemitism, and in this role it will hide behind obfuscatory logic to deport the "wrong" kinds of Jews.

This post is unavailable.

When our local USA TODAY-affiliated news organization posted this story, there were lots of replies celebrating it, including e.g. these. Nothing to see here, folks! Just demanding that *certain* types of Jews be expelled en masse, but it’s only a very specific type of Jew so it’s all good!

Another thing to note about this is that some of the imagery of northern Gaza is dated as far back as December 2024, so what we are seeing is likely an underestimate of the total devastation.

Maybe my brain is broken, but I don’t understand how anyone is talking about anything other than the Google satellite images of the south of Gaza. I have felt disassociated from humanity all day.
