#31DaysofGraves 27: Portrait The two coins inserted in the stonework of this grave drew my attention. I think it reflects who the monarch was when Selina was born ( Victoria) and when she died ( Geirge V)? Selina Isabella Snowdon, born 1869. Does anyone else have any theory about the two coins?

#31daysofgraves #day26 #Accident There were at least a dozen “lost at sea” graves in the graveyard of this fishing town Anstruther Churchyards contain so much history

I love London transport poster art! 2 autumnal and one fun one! These beautiful posters were commissioned by London Transport in 1960. The artist was John Burningham, who would later go on to write and illustrate many children's books.

#31DaysOfGraves Day 25. Tree The tree of life. Stunning and really unusual headstone Rev John Wesley Hetherington 1878 -1964 Brampton old church. We couldn’t work out what it was made of! It looks like metal but isn’t. Also wondered if it was made with a mould?

#31daysofgraves Day 24 Contrast The small grave is a headstone to 3 young children who died. It's in a common grave. The huge (in my opinion) monstrosity directly opposite to it is to a local bigwig. Quite a contrast. RC church Formby

Brian and George Fell are father and son. Makers first and foremost, they love the physicality of working in steel, which is a versatile and recyclable material. On display at The Atkinson #Caturday

2/2. When he went down for breakfast the man was washing himself and claimed he had come to tune the piano. I’ve heard adultery called some things in my time… Watch this space!

I’m researching a soldier who died in WW1. I thought as he was so young I wouldn’t find out much. Wrong! His parents’ divorce papers are online. I found so much I’m doing a blog. The newspapers reported it. Hilariously the husband claimed he heard the corespondent snoring. 1/2

#31daysofgraves Day22 mourning Every photo of a headstone I’ve ever taken could come under this theme really. So I’ve chosen my Nan’s Several years ago I finally managed to find Emily’s, grave . I thought of her boys gathered around her grave. Thank you Emily for all you did. Details in Alt txt

#31daysofgraves No 20 fire epigraph in memory of a blacksmith's life. My sledge and hammer both declined, My bellows they have lost the wind, My fire extinct, my forge decayed, And in the dust my vice is laid. My coals have spent, my iron gone, Luke Ralph, Blacksmith who died aged 49 Settle

#weekPforpaper #AlphabetChallenge My photo of the first page of a letter my grandad wrote to my nan when he was dying. He thought he was going home and had died when she got the letter. he had a head wound hence the scrawl. I transcribed it.

Just looking through one of my mother in law's old cookbooks. I would guess early 1950s or possibly 1949, the year she married. . This delight is called "mock roast" and is made up of left over liver or offal. You're welcome.

One of the oldest graves I’ve come across The Latin ledger stone seems to commemorate Thomas Errington, Maria his wife, and a Maria Howard I’m not sure of the first date (1677?) but interestingly the second has the year 1668 scratched on later. #MemorialMonday Chollerton
