I know Democrats immediate reaction to this is to cheer and just try to gerrymander harder than Republicans, but I'd like to propose a different option: Mutually Assured Representation.

Great news: Missouri Republicans’ new congressional gerrymander is blocked for 2026, saving the seat of Black Democratic Rep. Emanuel Cleaver. If voters pass the veto referendum and an amendment to protect the ballot initiative process, the new gerrymander would stay blocked for 2028 and 2030 too

Missouri and Maryland have the same number of delegates and are similarly partisan. Can they just agree to draw new fair maps that only go into effect together? They also both have governor vetoes, so when new maps have to be drawn in 5 years, the two state governors could try to force this deal.

“What were the blue bloods, Grandpa?” “Well, the number one team could beat the number three team by 58 in the national championship and nobody was really that surprised.”

In a just world, California and Texas would draw their new maps together and make them conditional on the other's being drawn fairly. They won't because both parties like to have uncompetitive districts. Much easier to be a Congressman when you don't have to campaign.

My Democratic colleagues and I just left the state of Texas to break quorum and stop Trump’s redistricting power grab. Trump is trying to rig the midterm elections right before our eyes. But first he’ll have to come through us. It’s time to fight back.

This might be the best idea I've heard for financing small apartment buildings on single family lots: Homeowners could effectively front the equity so builders don't have to, and they wouldn't have to move out until the permitting and financing are lined up. Let's do this?

The most likely candidates for this would be homeowners with a high percentage of their net worth tied up in their house, living in a neighborhood with good transit. And obviously the zoning. Could this work in East Austin with Affordability Unlocked and single stair? What else do we need?

You are up to date.
