I do Things. Sometimes develop games, sometimes write books, sometimes make videos. Sometimes nothing, honestly.

One of the most boring considerations of #gamedev. Are you ready? Being in an options/pause/something menu and pressing 'B' (or equivalent) so the options cursor goes straight to 'Back/Exit/Whatever'. Fun. Times.

Plus it is clearly a car racing event between characters. Nobody is going to agree to take part at all if Sonic says "well I'll just RUN, then!" are they?

Dreading all the "Why does he need a car?" post DUDE THEY AREN'T DRIVING THE VEHICLES CAUSE HE NEEDS IT THEY ARE DRIVING THE VEHICLES BECAUSE ITS COOL!!!!!!!!! (I'm talking about Sonic)

I love designing just a normal classic medieval fantasy setting with locations like; the abandoned ruins of a castle, a lonely old library, and big giant evil lazer that turns you into dust #indiegame #gamedev

Question. Did anyone ever develop a PSX emulator that wasn't primarily concerned with accuracy, and instead lets you do things like "skip loading times because it's running on a PC"? Or was that never anyone's consideration?

Everything said in that quote sounds like a flipchart talking to a PowerPoint presentation in a board meeting for sleeping millionaires.

"To break out beyond the core audience, games need to directly connect to the evolving demand of players who increasingly seek shared world features and deeper engagement alongside high-quality narratives" EA's CEO has said, post Dragon Age: The Veilguard. bit.ly/3Q52rAP

Jfc you people. This is fucking Nifflas. He made Knytt, Nightsky, so many things that WERE what "indie" was before most of the people you idolise or know about now even started. And this is what he gets for posting enthusiastically about *game design*. Children. I swear to god.

Oh no. Are the guys who made OutRun 2006 still employed? If not can we just fund a new studio for them, please?

Sumo Group has announced it will be refocusing its business to cater "exclusively on development services for partners", resulting in a restructure and potential layoffs www.gamesindustry.biz/sumo-group-t...

WHAT. I, uh. Yeah. Yes. Please. Yes to this. Yep. Oh yeah.

NEW GAME ANNOUNCEMENT! A 1995 CD-ROM. A game buried for a reason. You flip a card. The screen glitches. Something is watching. Forbidden Solitaire—a dungeon horror from the creators of Ancient Enemy and Home Safety Hotline. store.steampowered.com/app/3414580/... With @slicknicklives.bsky.social

Got myself a little global achievement system working. I am now convinced all those "Press Start" title screen achievements over the years are teams who were working out how achievements worked. Because that's what I did (more or less). #gamedev

Question. Is it acceptable to internally hold AAA and indie games to wildly different standards? Not just in graphics or scale, but also in features, options, 'boring bits'? Things like remapping controls, graphics settings and yes, even accessibility options? Or is it an "ALL GAMES" thing?

Sorry but it helps that DeepSeek actually sounds like the name of a futuristic AI. OpenAI sounds like a nerd making a shopping app. DeepSeek sounds like something you'd put in a Terminator movie. Which isn't GOOD, but it is COOL.

Here's Azulie, a 90s MS-DOS inspired platformer I've been (very slowly) working on where you play as the titular character Azulie, a cute little blue blob guy who's on a quest for adventure! #screenshotsunday #indiegamedev #indiedev #azulie #platformer

One of those very, very rare moments where someone has mentioned their ideal studio for an IP revival, and somebody else has actually done it. "Y'know who'd make a good Ninja Gaiden game? Platinum." Come on. You know you can *hear* somebody saying it. Probably me.

Construct and GDevelop would break your brain.

I'm ???? Going to doodoo myself???? I'm newer to Godot 4, and I just found out that theres?????? a template???????? to make your CHARACTER JUST MOVE!!!!!??? AND IT JUST WORKS AND IT'S BUILT IN???? I'M SO TILTED WHY ARE THERE EVEN OTHER GAME ENGINES THIS IS LIKE EIGHT HOURS OF WORK JUST DONE FOR YOU

Grant Kirkhope was talking about the possibility of a new Banjo game. I don't think it IS possible, I don't think a 'big' studio (Nintendo exempt, obviously) has the mentality to make a game of that era anymore. Those people don't exist in Corporate gamedev, they're indies now.

I give Valve and Steam a lot of good faith space to fuck up, because nobody's done/is doing what they do on PC, at the scale they do, that regardless of the issues is doing so much GOOD for so MANY people. They screw up a lot but there isn't a playbook to work from. They're writing it as they go.

valve aren't saints but indie games being viable at all on a platform as large as Steam is a miracle in 2025. we can certainly push for better but it's shocking to me that such a thing is at all a possibility still.

This is what people aren't getting. Absolutely nothing will stop GTA6 being successful. It is the highest profile game in the next few years by a HUGE margin. What WILL be affected (because it always is) is everything that thinks it can be LIKE GTA after that. Because nothing ever can or is.

Kyle Orland@kyleor.land

How I predict the "$100 games" thing going: * GTA 6 launches at $100 and still becomes the best-selling launch of all time * Sony tries a $90 price point for, like, God of War 3, it still sells decently * Multiple no-name big-budget games try to launch at $90 and do way worse than expected

Little showcase video of where we're at: - Momentum based 'steering' physics so you have to 'turn' as you move. Does a good job of leading to a low barrier of entry but high skill ceiling, where you can achieve a very satisfying 'flow state' - Turbo adjusted/balanced - Flashier, more FX #gamedev

What do you do to finish developing a game? Whatever it takes.

Myles@myles.redplanetgames.co

And yet there is no shame in this whatsoever, make your game however necessary 💪 Show me a developer that doesn’t copy paste anything from stackoverflow and I will show you a liar #GameDev #SoloDev #IndieDev #Programming
