A big old leaf-through Larry. A grade-A bookmark monger. I'm a book guy. A real deal book guy.

Completely blanking on a question in this morning's job interview probably not a good thing, but I did end up showing off pictures of Cooper dog to the interview panel, which definitely screams "hire me immediately", right? Right??

I absolutely adored this novel. Was considering checking out the film (Jeremy Irons and Ethan Hawke seemed promising) until I read that they'd switched the location from the Fens to fucking Pittsburgh?? Unforgivable.

Right, well, the football was shit, but I've high hopes for the book.

Plymouth Argyle fans bringing the party to Massachusetts! 🇺🇸💚 From a massive watch party to Pilgrim Pete causing absolute chaos, the Argyle faithful are making their presence felt across the pond! 😂

I feel like I'm losing my mind watching modern football sometimes. Booking a player for a challenge that would have been a foul if he'd made contact and, you know, actually fouled the player (which he didn't) is wild. A goal coming from the resulting free kick is salt in the wound.

How's that war on drugs working out for you? "Wastewater analysis suggests people in England consumed 123,000kg of cocaine in 2024-25, a rise of 26% since 2021. That’s equivalent to roughly 2.5bn lines of cocaine, at an estimated street value of almost £10bn"

theguardian.comHow cocaine conquered the UK: in pubs, festivals and workplaces the drug has become an everyday habitPreviously considered a middle-class drug, price drops have made cocaine more widely available, and created a new set of problems

If you're after a great Halloween read and you own a Kobo ereader, Mariana Enriquez's absolute slab of a horror novel Our Share of Night is currently 99p. Bargain of the century.

Children, be curious. Nothing is worse (I know it) than when curiosity stops. Nothing is more repressive than the repression of curiosity. Curiosity begets love. It weds us to the world. It's part of our perverse, madcap love for this impossible planet we inhabit...

Digger was fucking great what the hell. It's like if Don't Look Up was actually well written/directed/acted and mixed with a pinch of Synecdoche, New York and Dr Strangelove. Banger of a movie.

I've just seen that Plymouth Parkway have made it to the FA Cup 1st round for the first time in their history. Bleddy geddon you Bolitho Park beys, please draw Exeter at home and batter them 🙏

Just back from an estuary walk during which a random dog bit me on the arse. Cooper-dog offered no help at all but was fed fistfuls of treats by the bitey dog's extremely apologetic owner, so at least he did quite well out of it. Staying home with football and a book remains undefeated.

Assuming the post-covid/flu jab position: sofa bed, dog, big screen YouTube. I will be moving as little as possible for the next 48 hours whilst my immune system has it's traditional meltdown.

I knew United were in trouble but I didn't think they were in "making Spurs look like Barcelona" trouble. This is an horrific watch.

Manchester United's next match is against Tottenham Hotspur. The stoppable force meets the movable object.

I remember when I found out that most people do this, it's one of the many moments in adulthood that have made me look back and think "oh we really were quite poor weren't we?" Never noticed at the time. Still only butter one slice.

This post is unavailable.

Still time for Bim Pepple to come on and score six in the second half 🤞

I'm full of admiration for Argyle's away support on the whole, but anyone who's traveling to Newport on a Tuesday night in October for a Jersey Mike's Subs Trophy group match is in dire need of an intervention. I hope we smash them for you lunatics, 2017 style. #pafc

I've been in a minor reading rut over the past few weeks, picking up lots of books, reading a few pages and losing interest very quickly. Yesterday I picked up Cannery Row and just inhaled it in one go. Steinbeck is the fucking man.

To the surprise of no one, the Embankment Road footbridge is still not open. The council have given up the pretence of claiming an end date, but have put up CCTV, alongside a new sign exclaiming the benefits of the path that's now been closed for over 100 days with no end in sight.

Criminals, cheats, and liars. They've robbed the exchequer, brought the national sport into disrepute, and shown zero remorse. Expel them from the league and wind them up now.

Manchester City cheated Premier League rules, the Commission found. Did it also cheat HMRC? We've examined the decision and leaked Mancini documents. We think City likely failed to pay £12m in tax. There should be a criminal investigation. Thread:

Man City "artificially inflated the club's revenues, and reduced its costs, by more than £900 million during the affected the period, to appear to comply with financial rules." That's from 2009/10 - 2017/18 alone. What of the hundreds of millions they've spent since?

They've banked a lot of money from player sales in recent years, but much of that is from players they would never have been able to sign in the first place if they weren't cooking the books.

The potential legal and financial ramifications are never ending without the club going into administration and being wound up. That has to be the ultimate end point of all of this.

My first ever proper visit to Tinside (it was closed for my entire childhood, I'm a "learnt to swim at Ballards" Janner) and I got to take Cooper in with me. They have a dog day every year for the final session before closing for winter. Bloody brilliant idea.
