Reading this is not optional. Sorry. I don't make the rules.
This is the most remarkable story Ray Bradbury ever shared with me. He told it to me late one night, sitting in his den of antiquities and mementos. Take five minutes to read this. It’s pure magic. #Writing #Living #Creativity #RayBradbury #BookSky
The first one I can remember is "Star Wars." Just "Star Wars." No subtitle, no episode whatever. I was five and it blew my little mind, even if I didn't necessarily get everything. Saw it seven or eight times that summer.
First film you saw at the cinema. The real first one, not the pretend one you tell people! Mine: The Empire Strikes Back, 1980, Wigan. We were near the front and I can still remember how massive the AT-ATs looked, looming over us out of the snow :) Film, year, where, and whatever stuck with you.
Are we supposed to be grateful? Because lemme tell ya, the whole "collapse of the Internet" possibility has me ambivalent at best.
70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...
In 2018, control of the Virginia House of Delegates was decided by drawing a name out of a bowl.
For those wondering if their vote matters: Speaking as a historian, there have been elections throughout American history that were decided by an AMAZINGLY SMALL number of votes. Don't surrender your right to have a say. Vote!
I'm glad I'm not jaded enough not to be sicked by this, frankly. I worry, sometimes, that I might become inured to the callous racism of, especially, Republican electeds, since it's SO ominipresent.
JUST IN: The police shooting that killed 1-year-old Kohen Wiley as he sat in his mother’s lap in a Walmart parking lot in Senatobia, Miss., in June “was justified,” Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s office said on Monday. Her office will not charge the white officer who shot the child.
So we're all cool that cops can just fucking kill anybody whenever, right? Guess when you're already undead, the lives of others don't matter. Fucking ghoul. The cops AND Lynn Fucking Fitch.

The beauty of this is that the average patron of a colonial-era tavern didn't leave much to go on, so Sam can project whatever he wants onto him.
if you were wondering whether Alito's book is an embarrassing crock of shit, I can now officially answer your question with a resounding yes ballsandstrikes.org/legal-cultur...
If i had seen this n post before I knew the underlying article w a s (co-)written by an "AI," my first question would still have been, "Did an 'AI' write this?"
Opinion: If AI is now part of academic writing, what should institutions actually evaluate? This essay argues that analytical writing should be judged by evidence, structure, argument, and accountability not by guesses about how each sentence was produced. https://chroni.cl/4eDRdjg
Carville's big moment was 34 fucking years ago. Kristol's was helping talk us into disaster more than 20 years ago. Why does ANYONE give a single, solitary shit about what EITHER of these fossils has to say?
🤔 James Carville: “I’d rather Republicans keep the house by 5 than Dems win by 5… Because then they’re hostage to DSA, and Hakeem can’t move.” 😬Bill Kristol: “Good point.” So afraid of DSA folks who want M4ALL, etc. they’d rather Republicans hold power. Unreal. True colors.
