The Electoral Office for Northern Ireland (EONI) is consulting on a new polling station scheme. To help voters understand the new proposed layout, EONI turned to us to build an interactive map of new polling places. More on our blog: democracyclub.org.uk/blog/2026/07...

democracyclub.org.ukMapping Northern Ireland's proposed polling placesWe worked with the Electoral Office for Northern Ireland to map out their proposed polling places for the 2027 elections.

๐Ÿ˜"Thank you. without this we wouldn't know enough about the candidates." - A happy 'Who Can I Vote For?' user in Greater Manchester. ๐Ÿ”The GM mayoral by-election will be held tomorrow. Voters can find their polling station and list of candidates by entering their postcode at whocanivotefor.co.uk

These figures are unprecedented - more than twice our record for a non-General Election.

"There are over 25,000 candidates competing for just 5,000 seats - giving voters an "unprecedented" level of choice in one of the most hotly-contested local elections in history." Our candidate data underpins this Sky News story by @alicjahagopian.bsky.social . news.sky.com/story/local-...

news.sky.comLocal elections could see council seats won on record-low vote sharesPolitical fragmentation ahead of this week's local elections could see council seats being won with minimal vote share, say leading political scientists.

However, there are polls in most large towns: 67% of town councils have a poll, compared with 13% of parish councils. This includes new town councils in Bournemouth, Broadstone and Poole. Other towns holding elections this year include Sutton Coldfield, Eastleigh, Fleet, Huntingdon, and St Neots.

We've argued for a reform of election notices: - Party emblems should be published on the Statement of Persons Nominated (SoPN). - Withdrawn candidates should not appear on the SoPN. - Electorate and turnout should be published in the declaration of result (perhaps by ballot box).

On 7 May, the Scottish Parliament and Senedd Cymru will hold elections on new boundaries. This means that many voters will be in a new constituency or (in the case of Scotland) region.
