Moving the Qatar race to Phillip Island: who’s going to pay for it? Putting on a race costs millions, and we’re not going to have some sort of ‘Bahrain in Sepang’ scenario while Qatar is adamant that we’re still going there (until it’s too late to have a plan b)

A Monday race was totally impossible without sacrificing Sepang. Half the paddock already flew to Malaysia last night, freight will go today to clear customs in time, crews will start working tomorrow. Logistically impossible.

Just to be abundantly clear on something: this is NOT the place to come and talk shit, act like an expert, or spew conspiracy theories about the medical evacuation helicopter. Airmed is one of the few golden rules that we have. It is an untouchable factor.

Fair play: 'we are working with our ticketing partners to facilitate the process for full refunds for Sunday ticketholders and partial refunds for multi-day ticketholders'

I wonder if there's an insurance clause that says bikes on tracks means no ticket refunds...

Everything about today was out of the hands of the organisers. There was nothing that could have made the race happen. BUT. We knew this forecast on Thursday, and we've rearranged a race before at PI to make sure we could at least award 25 points.

New update: nothing happening on track until at least 3pm (two and a half hours from now), and the MotoGP race will be the priority. I think we can now say goodbye to any chance of a Moto2 and Moto3 race today - and I don't think we're going racing at all... Next update 2pm.

Absolutely not saying MotoGP doesn't want the race to go ahead, because they do, but... giving Jorge a week to heal up does wonders for a title fight that we called yesterday 😉

Unofficially, next update at 1230 (over one and a half hours away). No track action before 1300.

Official: we will NOT start track action at 1100 (15 minutes away) as poor visibility and track conditions persist. Further updates when they can.

Seems to be brightening up a little bit here, but been told the problem isn't visibility at Phillip Island, it's visibility in Melbourne. We're two hours' drive from the nearest trauma centre so we need the helicopter to be able to fly

My sources say there will be NO track action at Phillip Island before 11am local time (just over two hours from now) due to low visibility restricting the medical helicopter

In the ten years preceding sprints (2013-2022), we averaged one missing rider per race due to injury or illness. In the four years of sprint races (2023-2026), that number has jumped to 2.5 per race.

There's a distinct probability that six of the 22-rider full-time MotoGP grid does not start tomorrow's Australian Grand Prix. Aren't sprint races and 22 rounds a year just awesome?
