Being immersed by MSM in polling data 4 every voter cohort, for the newest wrinkle in every demographic’s mood is exhausting.Yardstick, measuring tape, dip-stick, barometer, thermometer - daily, hourly temperature analysis - I understand the stakes, but at this point, I think the cake might be baked.

Another horrific school shooting. Same hand-wringing, same long faces & solemn tones. Same empty words. Same rituals. Same frustrating helplessness in the face of a society in love with guns.

No Nobel Peace Prize for Trump.. he’s reported to be furious, claiming he deserves 8 prizes for the 8 wars he stopped. Threatens to rename Atlantic Ocean, Trump Ocean. A Mt. Everest of lunacy isn’t enough to move frightened Republicans to summon the courage to remove this fool.

A televised execution by firing squad is not an act of justice. It’s an orchestrated spectacle for the masses, who will watch to feel the brief psychic jolt at death’s stunning finality & thrill at our power to impose it with ease-a grim view of a staged killing that arouses only the lowest minds.

ICE is all over California’s Central Valley, terrorizing our neighborhoods & communities. This is a dark, brutal chapter in our history. Helplessness against this Trumpian nightmare is creating a mental health crisis in our country.

The strongest argument against capital punishment is its finality and the inevitable bias and imperfections of the people and the system carrying it out. Would any sane system give that power to a delusional malignant narcissist like Trump? To a Nazi like Miller or Bannon? To any Republican toady?

So weary of Thom Tillis’s rehabilitation tour, hawking his self-aggrandizing book - squeezing one last fistful of $ from the people. He’s the archetypal politician: ambitious, glib, vain & cunning - stripped clean of doubt, humility, moral clarity. Predatory.

Ed Sheeran needs to read the room. We live in a time when corrosive daily acts of inhumanity land on our doorsteps & call for taking a stand, not pretending there are neutral spaces to shelter us from moral accountability.

If “iconic” isn’t the most vastly overused descriptor currently, I can’t guess what’s in first place. New rhetorical “toys” always emerge into common use, but this one is definitely viral.

Fearless intellect. Fierce warrior. She dared to be condemned, loathed, reviled, threatened, ridiculed- for kicking down locked doors, smashing walls & ceilings for the sake of justice & reason.

BREAKING: Civil rights activist and journalist Gloria Steinem died Wednesday, according to her official Instagram page. She was 92.

Insanely, he “renames” Lake Ontario to Lake America with a stroke of a Sharpie this morning in the Oval Office. Everyone (me, as well) just shrugs in a “What’re you gonna do?” helplessness. We’ve normalized the absurd. The madman with the codes cannot be stopped.

Not sure what to think of H. Jeffries’ meeting with the pallid, priggish prince of grift, but it’s not a good look. And his intention to be secretive says he knows it. Jeffries is no doubt a well-meaning man who dislikes conflict & raised voices. But give me the guy who snarls when he speaks…

2/…and has the glare of doom. I want a fearless, brilliant, witty assassin who lights republicans’ hair on fire with his *daily rebukes, scorn, & ridicule. I don’t want to “reach out” to this rogues gallery of neo-nazis.

1/We all knew there were dark corners of evil in the world, but they always seemed at a remove. Other places. Now, it’s in our house, squatting in our rooms, grinning at our horror. Up it crawled from our cellar on Trump’s rotted, fleshy back. It’s our turn to feel the same ancient dread.

2/But we’re not helpless. We are far greater in numbers, & we have a handful of leaders with grit & talent. If we continue to fight, I believe we can prevail - recover our home & clean out the cellar at last.

Who called DoorDash & ordered orange chicken - extra large??

New details via NYT: Top White House and administration officials engaged in an elaborate ruse to spirit Trump out of Turkey during the NATO summit — transporting him in a catering cart to a military jet because of a credible threat against him and Air Force One from Iran.

Words I hope are spoken: “He didn’t need a double-wide after all!” “Did NO ONE get his brownie recipe!? “Is it too late to DoorDash something from his phone app?” “Is he smiling… I think he’s smiling!”

“How sure are we that she’s dead? I know for a fact that she would not want to be buried alive.” “…She was the glue that held us all together, and none of us can even fathom hanging out without her.” “I’m going to Dunkin’. Does anyone want anything?

Wish there were one dem leader who had a bit of fire, passion & bold, edgy daring. But we have genteel Jeffries, sleepy Schumer, & befuddled Ken Matin - DNC chairman.

I miss Jasmine Crockett - her fearlessness, boldness, razor wit, unapologetic disdain for Trump & his puppets in Congress. We need her taunting voice, her acerbic humor, her truth.

Then *every dem pound the republicans daily, hourly - on every platform, at *every microphone - as the party of Lies, Corruption, & Scandal - until it too is embedded into the collective public mind.

Embrace the central themes.. healthcare for all, affordable food & housing… & incorporate those into mainstream dem platforms - don’t stop until the concepts become embedded in the minds of the tiny-brained & the “don’t rock the boat” hand-wringers.

Real old-school Dems - FDR, LBJ, Hubert - had progressive ideals and acted accordingly. If there has been a shift it reflects the Rightwing co-opting of media and their post Citizens big money floating the system. But as you suggest, Dem Traditionalists would naturally embrace their New Deal roots.

This is the wise path for dems:

ndweiss@11tulips.bsky.social

This issue of Dem Progressives vs. Dem Traditionalists should become a non-issue. Old-school Dems should move toward progressive ideals. It’s possible, and appropriate, to respect traditional Democratic values while accepting new progressive goals. Why must it be a battle?

“…yank them from their loungers….”

ndweiss@11tulips.bsky.social

Old-school Dems are prissy defenders of their positions. Someone needs to yank them from their loungers and get them interested in blending Progressive ideals with Democratic traditional values. It can be done.

DSA = naive idealism informed by a childlike understanding of human nature & the nature of effective governing systems. Wish they’d offered the Nordic model of mixed market capitalist economies. They’ll do some damage to the democrats’ chances of winning the next elections… hoping not much.
