Anonymity is a life preserver for the oppressed and a nuclear weapon for those seeking to oppress A functioning democracy recognizes that asymmetry and regulates properly The electoral process of America today is a nuclear war waiting to happen. It’s not a question of if, merely a matter of when

Untraceable phone numbers spamming unsolicited texts at you, paid for with untraceable money trying to influence your vote for a candidate these shadowy figures handpicked. This isn’t how a functioning democracy works. If your process resembles money laundering, you’re the bad guys.

“How much did this inning move the prediction markets for a Brewers sweep?” is question I’m mad that I’m asking. Is this interesting info? Yes. Is it worth all the shady shit that comes with perverse secondary market incentives for profit? Fuck no.

Trump offering $1,000,000 bounties for non-existent voter fraud is exactly what you buy through regulatory capture that is strong enough to cap awards at $30,000 for reporting corporate fraud

Dear advertisers - if your ads look AI generated, I automatically assume your product is a scam or fraud You think you are saving money on production costs, but you only do so by destroying your product’s reputation

Judge Reyes is the Lorax. She speaks for the trees. And the trees want to know which DOJ motherf***ers are ready to throw away their careers by signing on to the court filing. 😂 It would be fitting if we finally hit the big constitutional crisis and it’s because of a golf course.

The boiler for my radiators is offline for repairs. So I’m warming up my place right now by boiling a giant pot of water - basically a really inefficient radiator 😂

So it appears to me that Tesla showed off all the engineering on the Roadster that makes it illegal to drive simply as a rope-a-dope to really tell people who plunked down a $50,000 deposit 9 YEARS AGO that a street legal version is still 2 MORE YEARS away from rolling off the assembly line. 😂 😂 😂

More bad advertising “opt-out” The last sentence says “at any point, you can opt out of targeted advertising” You are primed to think “opt-out” if you don’t want your data sold. Now let’s look at the toggle: Opt Out means the *OPPOSITE* when it’s framed as DO NOT SELL MY PERSONAL INFORMATION

Masked Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian villagers on Friday, setting olive groves on fire and slinging rocks. Caught in the attack was Post photographer Heidi Levine. “They just kept kicking me and kicking me, like probably 50 times,” Levine said. https://wapo.st/4yt6dHY

DLLDLDDDLWDLLLLLDD One win in the last 18 league matches. 11 points out of a possible 54 On pace for 34 points, the lowest ever for the club over a full season Our coach quit a month before the season. The CEO quit mid-season. The CSO quit in the summer transfer window MNUFC are a dumpster fire

“We traced the crime. It’s coming from inside the White House”

McDonald: "We are looking for people who lied on purpose to take money that they knew did not belong to them. People who built abusive and illegal sham trusts to bury income they knew perfectly well was taxable."

I hope Elon Musk’s shareholders realize that the more he acts like a state-actor on the international stage, the more likely other actual state-actors will retaliate against his factories.

In the movie version of life: Trump isn’t taking the actions of a man who thinks he will face consequences for losing the midterm elections. And for that to be true, Congress can’t go into session. And how would you begin doing that? We are one corrupt Clerk of the House away from finding out!

edge of seventeen nicely contains a haiku within the chorus when you drop “just” since it’s one syllable past the edge of seventeen like the white-winged dove sings a song it sounds like she’s singing, ooh, ooh, ohh

It sure looks like ICE standard operating procedures include acting like carjackers to induce their targets to “evade federal agents,” triggering their use-of-force authority.

I like Cameron Winter’s Live at Carnegie Hall. A lot. But I am struck by how “Carnegie Hall” the audience reactions are because it’s piano instead of guitar, and it’s making me laugh a little.

To be clear, I’m not saying gangs aren’t involved. What I am saying is the narrative doesn’t fit squarely, so we should pick at why it doesn’t fit. There are lots of groups, both foreign and domestic, who stand to profit handsomely from fomenting civil unrest within an immigrant group in Minnesota

Controlling AI isn’t “a solved engineering problem.” AI is predicated on human thoughts and behaviors. And humans have built a *huge* corpus of laws, regulations, rules, and standards that attempt to control human behavior. Any AI scheme that doesn’t get this is a problem.

Everyone claiming better monitoring is all that’s needed make the same claim; we just need to monitor everything everywhere to make sure AI is doing what we want. Which means setting up a surveillance state. And a surveillance state never goes unexploited This Ezra Klein pod guest is making me mad

We are so much closer to the brink of an election catastrophe than many want to contemplate www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

democracydocket.comICE amassed millions of voter records in sweeping fraud hunt, documents revealIt's one of the clearest pictures yet of how deeply Trump's immigration enforcement apparatus has become involved in elections.

Trump Admin has contracts with 3rd parties to build secret databases filled with commercially available data on you There is no way they haven’t contemplated using this USPS barcode on mail ballots, which is tied to the specific voter, to connect to these databases to “decide” what is deliverable.

I know Diamond Dogs and Cat People are both David Bowie references. But for a kid who grew up with The Replacements… “Children by the million sing for Alice Chilton when she comes ‘round”

Can you tell for certain which setting opts you out of Meta’s enhanced browsing? This may meet some legal definition of compliance, but it’s a horrible user experience. It means they profit from your confusion.

At least we can all take comfort in Frey letting the surveillance state masquerade as a public service.

Frey vetoing the Waymo driver ordinance in Minneapolis makes no sense to me. Waymo is a purely extractive enterprise, it employs no locals and sends all revenue to Alphabet in California. If the city can’t ban it, then they should put friction into these transactions to benefit residents.
