🚨🚨🚨Check out the latest from our lab-neighbours!🚨🚨🚨 FXR proteins load mRNA onto dynein, and BICD2 gets the motor moving!

FXR proteins and BICD2 cooperate to promote dynein-mediated RNP transport and stress granule assembly https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.64898/2026.09.25.754448v1

Deeply honored to be elected as an EMBO member. This would not have been possible without the incredible past and present members of my lab - thank you for your dedication, creativity and total lack of fear over the years πŸ”¬πŸͺ°πŸ§ͺ

Congratulations to LMB Group Leaders Emmanuel Derivery, Kelly Nguyen and Julian Sale, who have all been elected members of @EMBO.org! I am honoured to have received the Otto Hahn Medal! Thank you Jan @brugueslab.bsky.social, @ursa-ursic.bsky.social, Michael Staddon, @mpi-cbg.de, and @poldresden.bsky.social for your support during this scientific journey!

It was an honor to introduce @alisonkickuth.bsky.social during the Otto Hahn medal ceremony from the @maxplanck.de in recognition for her amazing PhD, where she discovered a new mechanism for unilateral cytokinesis (www.nature.com/articles/s41...)

It was an absolute honour to win the #BSCB poster prize at #DynamicCellVI ! Its my first ever dynamic cell and I already can't wait for the next one! Make sure to come to our other talk today on using this tech to study endosomal dynamics?

🚨🚨🚨Check out this new preprint from the Lâwe lab proposing that microtubule architecture and dynamics evolved in Asgard archaea prior to eukaryogenesis! Happy to have had a little contribution by showing that Asgard tubulin displays a key hallmark of eukaryotic tubulins: dynamic instability! 🚨🚨🚨

Our latest preprint: Together with the team of Jan LΓΆwe, @danieltamarit.bsky.social and many others we discovered and characterized several Asgard tubulin genes and propose that microtubule architecture and dynamics evolved in Asgard archaea prior to eukaryogenesis www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Steven has joined us as an RA to assist in the design, production and characterization of a panel of binders to be used as biosensors to image sorting of endogenous cargos in cells using multispectral microscopy, or as modulators of activities of sorting machineries! Welcome to the lab, Steven!

We present a simple method to easily increase the imageable depth of an expansion microscopy gel on a typical inverted microscope ten-fold, using some carefully placed FEP film and a water dipping objective lens:

The final version of our multispectral microscopy manuscript is now online at Nature Photonics: www.nature.com/articles/s41... The main additions are some further comparisons to yet more unmixing algorithms, in which we find that our algorithm is still the most accurate.

We've recently updated our multispectral microscopy manuscript to clarify a few points (particularly regarding SNR) and add eight supplementary figures. Courtesy of Sjoerd Stallinga, we now also have a derivation of the appropriate CramΓ©r–Rao lower bound! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

We are very happy that the amazing PhD work of our previous PhD student, @akaashkumar.bsky.social is out in Nature Photonics!

🚨Publication alert🚨 My first, first-author paper is now out in @natphoton.nature.com! Our paper describes an iterative spectral unmixing algorithm and eight-channel camera-based hardware we developed enabling unmixing of low SNR live-cell data at video rates. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

We are super proud of @lara-kruger.bsky.social who is leaving to start her own lab at @institutcurie.bsky.social - you're going to be missed in the Derivery lab!

Congratulations to @lara-kruger.bsky.social, postdoc in @deriverylab.bsky.social in @cellbiol-mrclmb.bsky.social, who is leaving the LMB to establish her own research group at @institutcurie.bsky.social in Paris! Best of luck to you Lara! #LMBAlumni

In the original draft, we showed that Elongator binds to microtubules irrespective of their PTMs, but selectively elongates them using polyglutamylated tubulin subunits. As a result, Elongator rewrites the tubulin code of dynamic microtubules. How cool is that?

During revisions, we've added lots of exciting new data, so be sure to check out the paper! Most importantly, we now demonstrate that Elongator regulates polyglutamylation levels of spindle microtubules, both in cells and in vivo.
