I used to make games. Now I’m a stay-at-home-dad. I talk about video games, movies, and skateboarding. (He/Him)

I haven't posted in five months, apparently. Sometimes I have a dumb though that I think would make a good post, but I don't bother. I only check in here once every couple weeks now if I'm on my laptop, and I have a terrible announcement for you all: We do not need any of this. Free yourselves.

It’s so weird to me how people say Xbox was done once they started putting their games on other platforms, but PlayStation gets no heat for putting The Show, Helldivers, or Marathon on Xbox. Anyway, I’m gonna check out Marathon on my Xbox and it was a jump scare to see the PS logo 😂

OMG finally. I’ve always been so mad I can’t play my 360 version of the X-Men arcade game on newer a Xbox.

Konami and Limited Run have announced Marvel MaXimum Collection, a new retro compilation containing six games (and 13 versions in total). www.videogameschronicle.com/news/marvel-...

Had a bunch of people over to play video games for my 40th birthday and it was so fun. Also made me realize I have a good group of pals around and I don’t need to wait another forty years to get them together.

I’m a sicko who is playing Highguard. I think one reason it got dunked on is that it’s a lot easier to make fun of it than it is to describe what you actually do in the game. No one told me that you can be a werewolf. That’s a huge marketing failure right there.

But hey, I still haven’t even come anywhere close to what you do in the game. Sorry. It’s kind of like Rainbow Six: Siege and the Xbox 360 Shadowrun game, but the middle part of a match is sort of like Fortnite? I bet it’s like Apex Legends, but I never understood that game either.

These movies also delivered us Michelle Rodriguez. Well, maybe F&F came out first, but I remember seeing this movie in high school and thinking “they should put this lady in every action movie for the next 20 years.”

We don't have the past decade of amazing Resident Evil games without the decade of Resident Evil films that came before it

My local parks and rec does an awesome job at this, but they have to do it with our town’s tight purse strings. But kids are still out there playing!

"free/cheap/non-toxic youth sports" feels like one of those skeleton keys that would have knock-on effects accidentally fix 100 unrelated things about America or, you know, even if it didn't, at least a bunch of kids would be able to have fun playing sports

It’s why affordability and extra boards are an important part of my skate camp. I don’t want anything to be an obstacle for kids to participate. Well, except for the literal obstacles in the skate park.

Watched 95% of Wuthering Heights before we realized we didn’t have enough time to finish before pre-school pick up. It was pretty dope. My horrible opinion is that Emerald Fennel should direct a Bloodborne movie.

Got Avatar on 4K. I haven’t seen it since I saw it in 3D in the theater. I’ve been cynical about it over the years, but it’s still pretty sick and my daughter is instantly obsessed.

Gonna buy some 4K discs today. Haven’t visited the video store in a while since they moved a couple towns over, but I had an itch. I thought my wife was going to roll her eyes but she said “get something we can play loud on the new speakers.” 🤘

Serial Experiments Lain is a cautionary, deeply political story about how cool the Sharp X68000 looked, and what would happen if computers kept looking like that.

it fucking sickens me that this administration is in power on the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. the only patriotic thing any of us can do this Fourth of July is use it to protest, not "celebrate."

Green Day’s performance was so corny, I walked out of the room. Why play Holiday or American Idiot if you’re not going to sing the most scathing parts of it. They have other songs to play if they’re chickens. Remember when Elvis Costello got banned from SNL? Bring that energy back.

You could argue that they played those songs knowing you know the parts they’re not signing, but playing a censored version of your song about not wanting to be controlled by the media feels so weak to me.

I’ve been revisiting Ashen. It’s such a beautiful and relaxing adventure game. Except for the spiders and the monsters who eat the light from your lantern. Aside from that—super chill! It also has some of the most jaw dropping and fantastical moments I’ve ever experienced in a video game.

I bought a new TV today, but the thought of mounting it is too overwhelming so I’m excited to see it sit in the hallway unopened for six months.

Watched a doc called Secret Mall Apartment. Picked it up at my library, but it’s on Netflix now. On its surface it seems to be about squatters or obnoxious kids, but I think it was a great movie about art and malls and how the 2000s were weird. It made me want to make art too!

It’s also about what a town does with its mill buildings when industry goes away. The story is about Providence, Rhode Island, but I’ve lived in a converted mill building and grew up around these kinds of towns. They’re fascinating buildings.

The 2 was always the dumbest idea when it was just an updated version of the base game. Confused so many players or outright made them too mad to want to figure it out.

Five-year-old me: Oooh, that Batman cartoon! What adventures will he go on today? *the villain is left in tears, unable to process their fears and obsessions. And Batman, a looming presence born of the inability to rationalize terror, is the only one there to comfort them* Me: Oh. Huh.

My daughter just wrote her first story. “Once upon a time there was a girl named Maddie. She went to bed and wolf came to her window at night. The wolf asked her to follow him into the woods, so she took her sword. The wolf asked her to fight the froggy monsters. The end!”

I said “that can’t be the end! Did Maddie beat the froggy monsters or not!?” I was on the edge of my seat. “Dad! It’s a chapter book 🙄”

I keep making jokes during the Grammys, and my wife doesn’t usually think I’m this funny. I’m on fire. Gotta start recording so I can send an audition tape to MST3K.

Hard to keep up with how the Grammy winners are being announced, but fingers crossed for @megaran.com tonight. One of my favorite rappers who put out one of my kids’ favorite children’s albums.

I love revisiting this beautiful game. I know I’m a weirdo, but this is a game for weirdos. The only reason I wouldn’t want a remaster is because I don’t know how much you can change without sanding some of the magic off of it.
