Poets of Minneapolis, we lost one of our own when Renee Good was murdered. Raise your voices today in any way you can. Here, at the rally today, wherever you are…speak truth to power. Thank you, @zeeshanpathan.bsky.social for this inspiration. 💛💜💛💜

That you still exist with your rampant bewildered, open mouth is the victory of poetry over silence.

Sharing this elegy for Renee Nicole Good, from Minneapolis poet Danez Smith: “The role of us poets is to witness the world…With attention as our tool and duty, we turn to grief, to love, to the natural world around us, to our own lives, and to our countries.” www.harpersbazaar.com/culture/feat...

Many thanks to Shenandoah’s Nadeen Kharputly for her series “Small Town Dispatches” that features writers who live and work in small towns. In addition to my contribution, you can read my friend Ann Fisher-Wirth’s piece on Oxford, MS! shenandoahliterary.org/thepeak/smal...

I am so excited for you all to read this book — read this short interview I did with the author! If you or a loved one has ever struggled with letting go of possessions, cleaning out a relative’s home, or recasting family narratives, you’ll love it.

In the past three days I have made: Caramel corn, sugar cookies, chocolate covered pretzel rods, Swedish meringue cookies, fudge, chocolate caramels, lemon bars, a spiral ham, a turkey, fondant potatoes, cauliflower curry, two egg bakes, Greek salad, blueberry muffins, and beet salad.

Next up: cheese fondue, pickle cream cheese appetizers, bbq meatballs, a veggie tray. A charcuterie board, cinnamon rolls, and crescent rolls. Did I mention we have 6 kids, ages 14-24? They are definitely taking leftovers…

I’m making chocolate caramels, using a recipe from 1933 that my grandma got from her friend Hattie, and passed down through my aunt. Holiday food connects my grandma to my kids, who never met her. Those are the things I think about as I prepare for Christmas. 🎄❤️
