Holi is the Indian festival of colors - a celebration of spring, joy, and the triumph of good over evil. The colored powder (called gulal) symbolizes letting go of the past, embracing playfulness, and honoring the beauty of life in all its shades...

Traditionally, Holi also marks the end of winter and the beginning of the harvest season. But mostly... it’s about connection, forgiveness, and getting joyfully messy with strangers and friends alike. Here's some footage of all dat fun 🪔🌈🌼😍❤️‍🔥

1st mistake: Not realizing the curry would come in bags. 2nd mistake: Pouring it into hotel vases and cocktail glasses…only to remember we were literally at a Marriot and could’ve just called room service for actual bowls like functioning adults 🤦🏽‍♂️

In 1968, The Beatles came to this ashram in Rishikesh looking for peace, clarity & a break from the chaos of fame. George Harrison was the most spiritually curious of the group and really connected with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi & his whole Transcendental Meditation thing. 🧵

So while they likely didn’t use these exact ones, the originals were probably pretty similar... same vibe, same river rocks. They’re all abandoned and crumbling now with post-apocalyptic vibes, tucked inside Rajaji National Park next to a Tiger reserve.

Still... the place holds something. Not sure if it’s silence, history, or leftover Beatles magic... but it was definitely worth the visit.

Lennon wasn’t thrilled about homeboy allegedly getting naughty and making moves, so he and George packed up and dipped. John was so pissed, he wrote the song Sexy Sadie, which was originally called Maharishi, but George convinced him to chill and change the name.

Fun fact: Sexy Sadie was one of the earliest diss tracks and it's funny that it was aimed at an Indian guru by a bunch of white english dudes 😆 The meditation caves you see in the video were built from stones gathered along the Ganges, but they were constructed after The Beatles’ visit in 1968.

While they were here, they wrote close to 40 songs. A bunch of them ended up on the White Album: Dear Prudence, Blackbird, Sexy Sadie etc. So yeah... pretty solid case for meditation unlocking creativity 🧘🏽📿

Also, stereotypically, there can’t be an Indian spiritual guru without a little drama. This story’s no exception 🥲 Rumors started floating around that Maharishi was getting a bit too flirty with some of the women there - including Mia Farrow.

Indian street food is so sketch they literally have a term for it: "Delhi Belly" - which is basically Traveler’s Diarrhea with better branding 🤢

Long story short, I was about to revoke his “brown card," but I gave him a pass cuz he can't eat gluten, and I didn't want to be responsible for his death. So yeah… this test wasn’t valid.

But if anyone got coordinates for any sketchy street food vendors in India, please send them my way so I could make a pit stop next time lol 😁🥙📍

Indian roadside c̶o̶c̶a̶i̶n̶e̶ sugarcane juice was so good we had to upgrade the rating from a 9.5 to a perfect 10. 50 rupees a glass... which is about $0.60 cents USD. Fresh, sweet, and an excellent natural electrolyte. Every time we find it, it’s 2 glasses, no debate. Way better than lemonade IMO 😍🇮🇳🔥

After sunset, we headed back down but missed the laser-guided stargazing, so Vincent and I trekked to a smaller nearby summit to get a long-exposure shot of the Milky Way. (8 of 11) 🧵

Standing there under an infinite canopy of stars, with the Milky Way arcing overhead like nature's finest light show, you feel both infinitely small and incredibly lucky to be witnessing it all. God be straight up flexin' out here 💪🏽🔥🤯🌌 If you ever get the chance, go. (9 of 11) 🧵

Without a 4WD vehicle, we had to stop at the visitor center at 9,200 feet (2,804 m) and hitch a ride. Luckily, the first person I asked — a Chinese dude named Ping visiting from Taiwan — was kind enough to let us tag along in his empty Jeep. (6 of 11) 🧵

Turns out his wife had to stay behind at the visitor center with their daughter because she was too young to go to the summit. Soon, we were cruising to the summit, cracking jokes and swapping stories with an international crew of new friends. (7 of 11) 🧵

While the public doesn't have access to telescopes, it's one of the best spots on Earth for sunsets & even more spectacular for stargazing. You're above the clouds with minimal light pollution and a clear view of the night sky. Sunsets are breathtaking, but the stargazing is surreal. (4 of 11) 🧵

Getting there, though, had its quirks, especially considering this was an impromptu adventure. We made the mistake of renting a Dodge Charger — great for style, terrible for mountain climbs 🤦🏽‍♂️ (5 of 11) 🧵

Mauna Kea, a dormant volcano on the Big Island, towers 13,803 feet (4,207 m) above sea level, making it the highest point in Hawaii and the second-highest island peak in the world 🌋 (2 of 11) 🧵

It’s home to The Keck Observatory, where two massive telescopes—each with a 10-meter mirror — stare deep into the cosmos. These telescopes are pivotal for astronomical research, contributing to groundbreaking discoveries that have shaped our understanding of the cosmos. (3 of 11) 🧵

It comes through living it, breathing it, and sometimes struggling through it. Here, in the remote bush of Gabon, every challenge is a teacher, every discomfort a lesson. The path isn't always forward. (6 of 8) 🧵👇🏽

Sometimes, it winds, and sometimes it breaks you down before building you back up. But that's the point — the deepest wisdom often hides in the detours we never planned to take. (7 of 8) 🧵👇🏽

In a world where we scroll endlessly through feeds yet feel emptier than ever, they offer something different: truth earned through direct experience, wisdom forged in difficulty. (4 of 8) 🧵

Looking back at the moments that were never recorded — ceremonies in the dead of night, teachings that can't be shared, trials that stripped away every comfort — I'm reminded that real transformation doesn't come through books or life coaches on social media. (5 of 8) 🧵

There's no Instagram filter for the discomfort, no guidebook for the chaos, no way to prepare for how thoroughly this place dismantles everything you think you know. I didn't come here twice for tourism. (2 of 8) 🧵
