A momentous victory against all odds, one that allows the world to literally breath a collective sigh of relief. The results in Brazil and Serbia show what can be achieved. A reference point for other nations battling the insidious forces of the far right. www.theguardian.com/world/2026/o...

This SHOULD act as the catalyst for the Burnham Window starting to close. As always, it’s actions not words that matter. A decision taken for minimal benefit, failure of leadership on the most important issue of our times & clear failure of the first duty of gov’t. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cw...

Barely watch anything on the BBC these days, but have watched this evening’s Newsnight. Very interesting seeing Tim Stanley’s mask slipping showing the racism that lies beneath. How do you know any of the rioters in France are migrants?

The BBC is not ‘neutral’ and does not operate in the public interest. Its job to manufacture the public’s consent for whatever agenda serves the interest/stability of the British state and its ruling classes. It’s to keep the rabble in line and is social engineering at its most sophisticated.

There’s lots of examples you could use to illustrate how deluded the Labour Party is. The one that stands out most for me is their pledge to reduce road KSI’s by 65% by 2035 (where annual statistics have plateaued), without introducing any significant policies to actually achieve it.

2 thoughts from today’s ride. 1. Fuck bad drivers 🖕(no ride is complete without at least 1). In 1km on Kirkstall Rd I had 3. 1 moron female SUV driver 2 foot from my rear wheel and then close passing me (0.5m) 2 twats pulling out of side roads, stopping fully and blocking my lane on approach.

2. Fuck Yorkshire Water 🖕 Drought recently declared, yet burst water mains all the way up Otley Old Rd, along with several other leaks on other roads through West Park and Kirkstall. Take the unwarranted hike in bill revenue and do your f*cking job in providing functional infrastructure.

Wanted to get out for a bike ride today ☀️, but work commitments and the thoracic section of my back said no. Going into the weekend undercooked, but professionally satisfied. 🫡

If the findings on the scale of drivers breaking the law and endangering other road users is “shocking”, then you’ve not been paying attention. It’s out there, it’s everywhere and the scale of it goes way beyond the ability to address it under existing measures. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

A message for all the MGiF’ers (lots of you). If you close pass me, when I catch up and pass you at the lights, I’ll be taking primary position thereon. You gain nothing & actually end up losing time. Also proving you can’t be trusted to drive properly, so need to be assertively managed.

Always find supermarket car parks are a good indicator (pardon the pun) of driving standards. Low speed zones, an abundance of clear signage and lane markings. Yet, a litany of drivers who can’t park properly, w/ consideration or manoeuvre safely. Doesn’t bode well for the rest of the road network.

Crazy happenings earlier. I was cycling up the A647 in the segregated cycle lane and a bus moved past me, stopping at the floating bus stop further up the road. Brace yourself for the next bit. I anticipated passengers getting off the bus and held back until they’d all crossed onto the pavement.

Actually, nothing special about this at all, it’s what a hell of a lot of cyclists do by default. Yet the right wing press and affiliated politicians want you to think otherwise, so they only focus on framing cycling negatively. Ever wondered why that is?! Requires a degree of critical thinking.

Inconsiderate driving behaviours (depressingly common - everywhere) stem from driving entitlement which gets reinforced at every level within society. The propensity to think with others in mind gets overridden and rendered redundant by autonomous thought process, to do as one pleases…

Seemingly, the only way to prevent yourself falling into this car centric trap is to make a conscious and unwavering commitment to put others at the forefront of your driving actions. The remedy? Cut down on journeys by car, reconnect with the outside and restore empathy before it’s too late.

Don’t even need to feign remorse to be granted judicial leniency, after being convicted of causing Death by Careless Driving. What’s more, you’ll get the chance to drive again in the near future. Driving privileges are worth more than people’s lives & public safety. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

bbc.co.ukDriver, 81, sentenced over death of motorcyclist near BoroughbridgeWilliam Beckett receives a suspended sentence after a fatal crash near Boroughbridge.

The death and destruction that takes place on the roads has long since passed the point of being normalised. KSI‘s have plateaued and drivers who kill are all too often given another chance to drive (and kill) again. Have we reached an acceptable trade off for driving privileges? Run out of ideas?

Whether this most recent petition is the one that finally brings the law to where it should be is to be determined. In the meantime, efforts to push for a change in the law will put pressure on those sentencing to use their available powers more often. www.nottinghamshire.police.uk/news/notting...

The bill amendment may have failed, but the point of principle has not and will not go away. Drivers who kill as a result of their chosen unlawful actions shouldn’t ever get the chance to drive again. It’s a case of “when?” not “if?”.

There’s an argument that if the tabled amendments had focused on Dangerous Driving solely, it may at least have been a closer vote. Labour MP Sarah Russell opposed the measure on the grounds that it was disproportionate to include involving momentary lapses in concentration.

So much more can be done, if the appetite is there. Introducing lifetime driving bans for those who kill is one in particular. Conservative MP Ben Obese-Jecty proposed an amendment to the law last year in the committee stage of the Sentencing Act 2026. bills.parliament.uk/bills/4012/s...

So-called professional driver, speeding & distracted illegally using mobile phone, hits pedestrian at speed, over the speed limit at impact. Victim - changing injuries & lucky to be alive. Driver has previous (inc. 6 month driving ban). 3 year driving ban. Playing lottery with peoples’ lives.

Every day serves up wholly preventable road violence. Amongst the onslaught there‘s a pattern emerging: The growing link between drug driving and RTC’s. Prevention strategy & penalties fall short = increase in rate. Recorded data only a fraction of the reality. www.ukroed.org.uk/analysis-sho...

ukroed.org.ukAnalysis shows drug driving offences overtake drinking offences | UKROEdNew analysis of DVLA statistics shows that drug driving endorsements (DG10) added to UK driving licences rose to 30,707 in 2025—a 28% increase since 2022. F ...

Key bit that shows the current system is not fit for purpose: “Separate government data has also shown that 44% of drug driving offences are committed by repeat offenders”. Drivers who’ve failed a roadside drugs test can continue driving until their hearing, sometimes for several months after.

Irritation of the day: Companies with sub-optimal policies, resulting in leaving their customers stuck and unable to resolve particular issues due to the flaws. “Computer says no sir”. Nice one, would you like to take on my suggestion to ensure you don’t leave other customers high and dry?!

The hyper-vigilance required in order to stay as safe as possible when cycling is not just for self-preservation purposes, it’s also because you have the pick up the mental slack on behalf of distracted or inattentive motorists, of which there are many.

Knew it. There’s little precedent in UK law of the accused live-streaming themselves committing criminal acts and then pleading not guilty. Along with previous convictions, this should act to increase the sentence handed out. news.sky.com/story/anti-m...

For the last year I’ve been hounded by scam calls (sure I’m not alone on this). It‘s rife in the UK. To UK residents, be on guard. If you’re unsure, hang up & verify whether it’s legit. To the scammers, you are worthless scum. You’ll never catch me out and karma will be paying you a visit soon.

And finally…something… As soft as you’d expect though. -Police are looking into a video “appearing” to show… -It was not clear from the live stream if he did any damage to the boat. (Hmmm, aside from the hissing sound as air is released through the puncture marks.) www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Just look at the organisations who covered yesterday’s events with detailing of what happened. Hostile billionaire owned right wing press, the worst of the worst, yet the public service broadcaster (BBC) can’t muster anything. brokenbottleboy.substack.com/p/bbc-news-d...

brokenbottleboy.substack.comBBC News, ‘Danny Tommo’ and the dinghy attack that disappearedWhile the rest of the media – even the very worst parts – report on Daniel Thomas’ actions, BBC News fails to give its audience the facts.

It goes beyond the BBC. We have a Home Secretary unlikely to uphold her own words (I hope I’m wrong). Failure in preventing the threat from becoming ever more sinister. Police inaction (so far) despite having the clearest evidence they could ever hope for with very serious crimes committed.

Think we may need a “Have the police arrested and charged Daniel Thomas yet” tracker. Rest assured, Hampshire Police are “conducting enquiries”. As evidence goes, they could not wish for better, with the offender live-streaming himself committing criminal acts (also confirming in English Waters).

This is the entirety of “your“ BBC News coverage of Daniel Thomas committing multiple serious criminal offences. Also, “a long term campaigner” no less. bsky.app/profile/djca...

One very notable absentee on Daniel Thomas live streaming himself committing a series of serious criminal acts is BBC News. Several hours on. Nothing. Very strange as I thought BBC News couldn’t get enough small boat coverage. I wonder why they sat this one out?! 🤔
