What a crap week If anyone from Gravity Well applies for a role at your studio please take a look - a ton of seriously world class talent is on offer. They will make your team and game better So sorry to those we had to let go this week, you all deserve so much more

Always on the hunt for good "family" co-op games (despite both our kids being adults now...) We still need to start Big Walk, Orbitals comes out today, and I just learned Minecraft Dungeons 2 is later this month! Finally, co-op gamers are eating well

finishing up last minute prep to fly to gamescom i need steam deck recommendations - just picked up denshattack and nier: automata, what else?

Heading to Japan tomorrow, so of course I'm prepping my Analogue Pocket for the trip. Any recommended hidden gems I should check out? As tempting as yet another Super Metroid playthrough is, I feel like I should branch out. Everything except RPGs or tactics games and I'll likely be into it

We're just about done hiring for this project. If any of these roles sound interesting to you please apply! We're working on something I think is p cool

Wasn't totally feeling the opening act before The Prodigy tonight, and then he busted out some Atari Teenage Riot My apologies Nitepunk, I was unfamiliar with your game

This week marks 20 years since starting at Infinity Ward, marking the beginning of my game dev career - a dream I thought was never going to happen If you're wondering, no. I still don't know wtf I'm doing Some days I still wake up thinking, "Man, itd be cool to make video games for a living"

The last year produced some incredible games, but the one I think I'm going to continue to go back to for years is Sektori. If you love shmups or twinstick shooters like Ikaruga or Geometry Wars I can't recommend it enough. The Steam reviews are spot on store.steampowered.com/app/2105620/...

store.steampowered.comSektori on SteamSektori is an intense, fast paced twin-stick shooter infused with hard hitting techno music. A game where the high-adrenaline gameplay, visuals, and music come together to transport you into another s...

Admittedly you'll have to put up with the occasional groan-worthy dad joke puns from me, but on the positive side we're working on something cool and are looking for more awesome devs to help us! tldr: rad team, independent studio, new IP (we own it!), great benefits, equity/profit sharing for all

It's an incredibly exciting time at Gravity Well! ✨ Our team is growing, and we're looking for talented people to help us build something special. We're hiring across our Art, Engineering, Production, and QA departments! Check out all our open roles here: job-boards.greenhouse.io/gravitywell

First playthrough of Terminator 2D: No Fate completed If this was released to arcades in 1992 it would have made all the money. Highly recommend it if you like this sort of game, just make sure to play on a higher difficulty. Was pretty easy to blaze through on the medium difficulty setting

Also loving Sektori by @gimblll.com! If you enjoy twin stick shooters and have a burning hole in your soul since Geometry Wars you should check it out. I play when no one else is home because the home theater needs to be at 11 for the music. Didnt blink during a 30m run I had last night, no notes A+

Shoutout to @bysameng.com on Skate Story. Played a few hours and its everything I was hoping for. Awesome skating gameplay, rad af graphics, killer soundtrack via Blood Cultures, and just a perfectly bizarre narrative - this is the skating game I've been waiting decades for

Really looking forward to ARC Raiders launch tomorrow. First game I've preordered and been this hyped for in a long while. That server slam test was some of the most fun I've had in PvP in years - no surprise, Embark showed they already know what's up with THE FINALS Anyone else going topside?

When I was 12 I got Myst for Christmas and fell in love (was huge Sierra / Lucas Arts adventure game fan), and this making-of video on the CD was the first time I saw any kind of game development. From then on I knew what I was supposed to do

Check out this amazing remastered (at 4k!) version of "The Making of Myst" mini-doc! Originally included on the Myst CD-ROM in 1993, this version has been carefully recreated by Ted Sase using footage preserved by the VGHF! https://youtu.be/xBtLZDPnYlM

None of it turned into making games, but about a decade later I finally got into games - as an IT admin. All that time learning the basics of how of how a game comes together turned out to be instrumental in being able to support the world class dev team at IW, which led to me becoming a producer.

I taught myself how to "script" in HyperCard while my older brother went about making all the art and we put together a few 10-15 minute point and click adventure games on our dad's Mac Centris 610 We got our hands on Infini-D and taught ourselves modeling/animation, and I got a copy of FutureBASIC

Around this time I was also teaching myself how to build maps in Wolf3D/Doom/Duke3D. Took a few community college courses in high school on an early version of Maya, spent hundreds of hours tinkering with Photoshop from 2.0 onward, and messed with webdev along the way too

One benefit of having COVID this week is that I've had the time to clean up my email inboxes Gotta keep things nice and tidy for the daily dump of spam to arrive, ya know?

New job listing posted! Totally biased, but I think we're on to something really neat here. Come help us make it a reality!

Reminded of ATVI blowing up Infinity Ward because the bonuses due to the dev team Cool quote from an ATVI exec email thread months before they fired our studio heads and took away our bonuses, "we are paying way too many people way too much, we need to find a way to put caps on our bonus payouts"

Jason Schreier@jasonschreier.bsky.social

Some employees at Unknown Worlds were told they were eligible for bonus payouts ranging from hundreds of thousands of dollars to seven figures if they hit their revenue target. They believed Subnautica 2 was on track for release this year. Now, with the delay to 2026, the target seems unattainable

My heart goes out to everyone at Unknown Worlds. What a shitty situation This industry is a really crappy place a lot of the time, but only because the people not actually involved in making games hold all the power

My wife and I are working through South of Midnight this weekend, really enjoying it so far. Loving the setting, story, music, and characters -- but the character and environment art are the biggest treat Congrats to everyone at Compulsion Games on the release!

Vividly remember my best friend from high school (rip Rob) getting on IRC and losing his shit after seeing it opening night. I hadn't seen any advertising for it yet, and he convinced me to go in totally blind the following day Aamazing moviegoing experience. Wish I could bottle that feeling

Happy 6th birthday to Apex Legends Once in a career project - everything lined up and the team managed to pull off quite the feat Fun fact: basically all of the launch game was made in about 14 months

Anyone else finding a certain sense of calm during the holiday? For me I think it's because studios are closed so games aren't getting patched. I launch Steam or boot a console I'm not having to sit there and watch half a dozen games update themselves I can just boot and play. What a concept!

Also, the project car is nearing completion! I don't usually do new years resolutions, but I do intend on spending more time driving for fun this year Any other Subaru nerds out there? EJ207, 6MT, DCCD, Ohlins, Brembos, Recaros...

Watched Canadian Bacon tonight (rip John Candy) Someone should find and question Michael Moore, that shit was prescient and way funnier than I remembered I'm upset I missed all the weapons manufacturing auctions of the 90s, tho. Getting my own AT4 would've been rad

Is there a way to actually dig yourself out of email spam hell? No matter how many unsubscribes I click through the amount of spam in my inbox doesn't go down. There's no useful way to communicate anymore; spam calls, spam texts, and spam emails have rendered it all useless
