You'd think I have bigger concerns than what costume I'm going to wear to this Halloween party next weekend, but you'd be very wrong.

Reminder: Emergency Group plays with Countermoon and ALÂN tonight, and note that the venue has changed from Nublu Classic to the other Nublu, just down the street (151 Ave. C, Manhattan). Updated flyer:

I love "Dear Dave," (magazine, blog) but this is...interesting. I once wrote a criticism of the Abbey Road cover for the WFMU blog but didn't publish it because I thought it was too nasty. This article critiques it because it's "bad photography." daveoftheweek.substack.com/p/twenty-eig...

...They couldn't be bothered to do any more than walk across the street. I think that illustrates how tired they were of it all. Compare the Sgt. Pepper cover. I wouldn't necessarily blame the photographer.

...He criticizes the fact that the photographer didn't use a large enough aperture to get narrower depth of field, and gets kind of classist, calling him "a guy who worked as a cruise ship photographer."

...But I think the "problems" with the photograph are related to what I pointed out in my unpublished piece. The Beatles were sick of each other, sick of John & Yoko's antics, sick of being Beatles, sick of the lawyers.

Just realized that someone said "Have a great weekend" in an email to me and I responded with "Have a good weekend" in mine. I hope this doesn't come off as too competitive.

Reminder: Emergency Group plays at Nublu Classic on Manhattan's Lower East Side this Sunday 10/25, with Countermoon and ALÂN (featuring WFMU's Sheila B.). Will be a great show! Come see us.

Faced with a tough decision first thing in the morning: Do I give this driver who cut my bike off the finger or the jerk-off gesture?

Been thinking about Tony Mansfield. Tony was a friend of a few friends of mine when I was a teenager, though I didn't know him well. Flamboyantly gay/mischievous/lascivious in a very '70s way. He'd passed through Warhol's Factory and was involved in porn films in some way. I think he's still around.

...I heard "rumors" that Tony was related to Jayne Mansfield, which is unlikely but something that Tony probably would have liked people to believe.

...Tony was from Brooklyn, which I guess is how he ended up being friends with kids in my middle-of-nowhere neighborhood. He once spruced up my friend Vinny's room by putting photos from the book "Rock Dreams" on his walls, very appropriate. I found this photo of him.

Suddenly getting way more of these junk phone calls than ever, and the reason seems clear: all those websites *requiring* you to give them your phone number (when you make purchases etc.). Of course most of them are then going to sell it. Yes, I know I can give them a fake number.

...Photos of junkies shooting up, exactly like that one, were everywhere at the time. You'd think these guys were lurking on every street corner, their "works" in a rumpled paper bag nearby. I had a book about Drugs full of pictures just like that.

#NewBook "Museums in New York" by Fred W. McDarrah. A slight splurge, because what good is a 53-year-old museum guide? But everything about this evokes what I consider one of NYC's Golden Ages: the content, presentation, photography, design.

Waitress in Chinese restaurant asked me a question and I answered "Yes." But I misheard her question. She'd asked me "Do you want a fork?" so she brought me one. Humiliating. I can use chopsticks.

Getting an MRI today (nothing serious). Tech person: "Would you like music in there?" Me: "Yes! What are my options?" TP: "Anything." What does that mean? Can I say "Side three of Ummagumma" or "Grant Green"? Didn't want to be a jerk so I said "Jazz." Predictably, got some kind of hold music.

Michael Fusella supported President Trump for nearly a decade. But as the Iran war drags on and the cost of living continues to climb, the 21-year-old Republican said he feels betrayed by a president who said he’d end overseas conflicts and lower prices.

Look at how he talks to people, especially women (aided by his openly Nazi sidekick). Anyone supporting these psychopaths should be shamed for the rest of their lives.

The feeling when you turn to the music that's playing and think, "Hey, this is good," and then realize it's a recording of your band that's been playing in the background and you'd completely forgotten. (In this case, a recording of a long jam by Emergency Group made last week.)

3-time Trump voter who lost her job from DOGE: The betrayal is pretty significant. Come time for presidential elections, it's gonna warrant a conversation of what party we vote for. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Don't fuck with the sound man.

A band insulted me, the local audio guy, all day, literally threw stuff at me. Promoter was just absent. I may or may not have put a pitch shifter on the singers in ear monitoring. People walked out, demanded refunds at the door because it was so bad.

I don't get why this is completely absent as a campaign issue. Withholding disaster aid b/c it's a Democratic state (or whatever stupid reason) is a crime against humanity, willful mass-murder. It's among the sickest things this guy has done. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

Had dinner at May Kaidee, the great vegan Thai place on E. Broadway, and the owner suddenly started teaching two women at the next table how to do a Thai dance. (They were pretty good.) She invited me and my friend to join her, and we said maybe next time.
