I don’t know how people could say that programming and art are completely different disciplines when both workflows involve going ‘This will never work, I’m a failure’, changing one thing, then thinking you might be the smartest person alive
how come when people use special red card against me, I totally brick. But when I use special red card, they draw into the three card combo they need to win the game.
pokemon, make it make sense
It's interesting that a lot of modern fakemon/monster catcher art that wants to be super nostalgic of the 90s uses the washed hyper contrast style of the original pokemon despite the fact those were basically scan errors and it was only relatively recently that we know how the images were intended
The only advice I have for physical art is to buy whatever materials will actually make you use it. There isn't a point to buying high quality markers if you're too afraid to use them. Inversely, if you hate the feel of cheap paints, then just... don't use them. Look for good sales or secondhand
Sorry I'm the #1 defender of people who are bad at art and who have learning difficulties and I think that if you have a statement about what constitutes as a "real" artist that would inherently exclude them, then it's a bad statement.
This is all I can think of when I see posts like "people who don't have tons of ideas don't actually do art" or "if you trace you're not a real artist", or implying that ppl who do collage or photography aren't artists, or saying you need to do whatever to be one.
Same shit, different ass.
I will say however that I do think people put too much emphasis on having a cool, novel idea. A done-to-death trope with excellent craftsmanship is often loved more than something that had good potential as a logline but shat the bed the entire way through.
Not going to comment on the chatGPT thing in OOP because I am solely talking about this comment: but I really hate arguments like this about "real" artistry
Literally SO often I know people who are like "I wanna write/draw but I don't know what I want to do and all my ideas are shit right now"
genuinely it feels like the only people who think “coming up with great ideas” is the difficulty are folks who have never attempted to make their own art
i have *so* many ideas for projects right now, the challenge is time and equipment and gaining the necessary skill to execute
And people who are still budding artists who are figuring out how to develop new ideas because they have the technical skill and not the proper inspiration are still... people who create their own art.
Did you know: you can hate genAI without making stupid-ass arguments that alienate certain demographics of artists for the sole purpose of jerking off your own ego?
Some people are just bad at certain parts of the artistic process and that's OK. Stop throwing people under the bus.

Coming up with great ideas IS hard- it's just a skill that you've trained & you don't realize it's a skill anymore because now it's easy to you!
Some people haven't trained that skill yet! I'm not saying "use AI to help you" but by god we need to stop shaming ppl who are untrained

I wish I had money for more lidocaine patches and being able to get a lunch later today.
My mom gave me some Amish lemon bars for my birthday and they're tasteless- it's just powder and sugar with a hint of lemon. And I'm also prediabetic
... I like. having a tarantula. I miss Mr. Scrungly. I want another one like him. But I can't afford to get a new setup and stuff right now and if I ask people to get me a spider for my birthday nobody will do it :/
Last night my frog somehow accidentally tossed one of her bugs into her fav water dish. She then made distressed croaking noises until I removed it, because she wanted to take a bath and didn't like that it was touching her. Once I had taken care of such a grave offense, she was back to normal.
I don't think $30k is a life-changing amount of money.
Median American born in 1980 will have $2m in income in their lifetime. It's a 1% increase in earnings.
