The ocean set a heat record in 2025 for the ninth year running: 23 zettajoules, about 40x the energy humanity used all year. Sea level rise is speeding up too: 4.2 mm a year since 2012, vs. 3.8 since 1999. Most of the heat our carbon pollution traps ends up in the sea.

Florida's Senate race is within the margin of error. Angie Nixon backs a federal data center moratorium. Her Republican opponent didn't sign onto ratepayer protections until late September. Help tip it: climate phone bank Thurs 10/15, 7–9pm ET, with Council Chair Michelle Deatrick.

Today is Children's Environmental Health Day. The EPA's own website says kids "eat more food, drink more water, and breathe more air in proportion to their body weight than adults." Yet its children's health committee sits empty, while Trump's EPA rolls back protections from mercury, soot & PFAS.

Justice Alito has finally recused himself from Suncor Energy v. Boulder County, the case that opens the Supreme Court's new term. It was about time: he's gained $2.9M from fossil fuel investments since joining the Court. This could decide whether 24+ climate liability lawsuits survive at all.

The shameful Stop Climate Shakedowns Act lets Big Oil off the hook for the climate chaos it knowingly created, then blocks states from making Big Oil pay for what it did to us all - even though the industry misled the public for decades about its terrible climate impacts.

A $7 billion program for solar on 900,000 lower-income homes. Terminated by Trump's EPA in August 2025. Called a boondoggle by EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin. Friday, a Trump-appointed federal judge ruled the termination illegal. Congress had obligated the funds. EPA didn't have the authority.

Indigenous-managed forests in the Amazon absorb 340 million tonnes of CO2 a year, which is as much as or more than the whole of California. Amazon land outside those territories releases 270 million tonnes. As we overshoot 1.5C, learning from Indigenous land management is more crucial than ever.

For years, Big Oil's defense has been that you can't prove which company caused which disaster. Somebody just did. A new study traces specific emitters to specific events: fossil fuel companies raised the odds of the 2021 Pacific NW heat wave by 31%. Ten years ago this was impossible.

AI helps fossil fuel companies find deposits, plan extraction, and pull more out of the ground. The net effect: half a billion to nearly 2 BILLION tons of additional CO2 a year. Clean energy would need productivity gains 4 to 5x more than oil and gas to cancel that out. That's not happening.

🦟 It's #WorldMosquitoDay. An important day to note that 95% of major U.S. cities now face an average of 18 more "mosquito disease days" per year compared to the 70s. San Antonio has its first case of West Nile Virus, months earlier than usual.
