she'll never know just how I feel I am yet another 'indie author' who hasn't made a big breakthrough yet. My best seller so far is HARVEST NIGHT, an urban horror novel about a cult of demon worshippers and the FBI task force determined to take them down.

"You're In Love" by Wilson Phillips is savage. She's all like 'oh I'm so happy you're in love with this other chick oh yeah yeah' but then two verses in she's all like 'oh you're not in love with me' and she's yearning like Charles Durning and the whole opening was BOGUS. Total decepticon shit.

AI improves my product. If my covers look more professional, I will reach more people. This is a good thing. I would never let a computer write my stories for me. But I'll let one help me put a cover together. Sure I will. Just as I will let one italicize the words I want italicized.

And even this is an inexact analogy. AI lets me do things that would otherwise be impossible for me to do. Should I give up my car so more people can get work driving a bus or an Uber? If someone gifted me a working jet pack, should I give up flight? You people make no sense.

Morons who can't tell the difference between using AI for cover graphics, which are not art but advertising, and using AI to do actual writing, which is indeed creative art and the product I produce and sell, tire me out. These are very different things. I don't claim my cover art as my own.

But declaring 'well if you'll use AI slop in one place you're just as guilty, FIND THE $1000 YOU NEED TO HIRE AN ARTIST' is obtuse, foolish, and stupid. I use tech to make my product look professional. Things are not as simple as the morons want them to be.

I went to college with a group of fellow geeks many of whom wanted to get into comic books professionally. We all agreed that whichever one of us got in first would help the others. There were four of us. Two of those four made it and are well known names in comic books now. One of us is dead.

I am mostly upset that neither of them tried to help our friend Jeff. He was enormously talented & the world would be a better place if he had had a chance to tell his stories in comics but instead he died of a broken heart in NJ after dropping out of the Kubert School. They could have helped.

Sometimes I daydream old friends from college might reach out to me to see how I'm doing. Then I remember that I am basically an asshole and why would they want to do that? I don't know. I take my commitments seriously but that seems to be a personal issue of mine.

I am sure if you asked the 2 success stories they have many reasons why they never reached back out. Perhaps #1 would be, would you help your potential rival in a hugely competitive market? All I can say is, were things reversed, I would have tried to help them.
