The Sun solution was a massive, maybe $35K, printer. That wasn't in our capital budget. I had a lot of experience using computers with terminal emulators, not my real job, so we set up a Mac connected to a Sun workstation, running a terminal emulator and a color printer. Worked great.

@mccool.bsky.social Hey, when you look at Colin Simmons of TX, please chk out his off-field life. Great guy. TX has a DT Justus Terry, 2nd year, that is looking incredible. The Horns WR Cam Colman might be the most productive WR in college this year, given the rest of the offense around him.

@mccool.bsky.social I tried using ChatGPT to create a mock draft for the '26 NFL draft. The first 3 picks were Arch Manning, Carson Beck and Qwinn Ewers. Really? Also, at the supermarket, I saw a copy of the USA Today '26 draft guide for $15 at the checkout rack.

@mccool.bsky.social Hey Landon, I previously asked about whether the Boys made a mistake tagging Pickens. I thought they should have tried to sign him during the season last year, but I didn't know the number was going to be ~$40M. I wonder if they could have fixed the defense during FA

with the extra $28M and freed them to draft BPA. Now, I'm thinking about trading Pickens this year, now way do they extend him. Until he signs the tag, he can veto a trade. Once he signs, they can trade him to anyone (my understanding). Maybe trade him at the trade deadline?

@rjochoa.bsky.social Hypothetical question? What is the Boys let Pickens go this spring instead of the tag? Would they be better off? $28M extra on cap to fill holes on defense in FA, freedom to draft BPA at 12, even a WR, #3 comp pick in '27. But Jerry loses the circus act this summer .

They would have had $28M more in free agency to solidify the defense before the draft, allowing them BPA. Maybe pick a WR at 12. They most likely get a #3 pick in '27, allowing them to trade their regular #3 in '27 for a player this year. The downside is that there is no circus act with Pickens.

@mccool.bsky.social George Pickens hypothetical question: Would the Boys be better off had they let George leave? They probably get a 3rd round pick in '27. They free up ~$28M in this year's cap that could have been used to solidify all the holes on defense with avg players, freeing them up to

draft the BPA, including a WR at 12 or 20. If they trade Pickens, what can they get after he demands $40M from the new team? Is the team better with a rookie WR picked at #12 or #20 and a much better defense? How disruptive will Pickens bee in the locker room this year?

@mccool.bsky.social Hey Landon, a question for the podcast. My opinion is that sacks are way overrated. I think pressures are more important as a stat. Some sacks are luck, I think pressures are a much better indicator of a good defense. Some players get a ton of pressures, but not so many sacks.

DLaw to name one. I see a sack as a TFL, great to get them, but a good player gets about 1/2 sack per game. I'd like to hear you discuss this on the podcast, if you think its a good topic.

Also, one of my concerns about the new defense is the edge players. I'm not so sure the team will have players that are ok on the edge in both the 3-4 and the Nickle. They need to add more than one decent edge, plus they need to add as many as 3 LBs, one a starter.

@mccool.bsky.social A while back, I decided that the Boys defensive roster was too weak to fix in 1 year. They do have a limited budget. I think they were looking to fix the entire defense now, didn't budget enough to compete for specific players. They should have focused on fewer players.

@mccool.bsky.social Hey Landon, I'm spending a good bit of time on the upcoming draft, y'all, Dane, Broaddus, Jeff, Voch, etc. One thing I noticed is that at least so far, no mention of character issues (that I've heard). Before, the college teams invested 1/85 of their budget in each player.

Now, it's they also invest NIL in each player, a lot at the top, so the top players consume a lot more than 1/85th of the budget. Are the teams and maybe the sources of NIL cash weeding out the bad character guys?

I had the idea that his defense was similar to the Kiffen/Marinelli defense, am I right? Players loved Marinelli, D-line players got paid. They had to run to the ball and did it. Marinelli screamed f-bombs and they loved it.

@mccool.bsky.social Hey Landon, RE: the need for the Boys to lose vs Giants. The Giants dropped from 2nd to 5th. As a division rival, the draft value chart I looked at has the Giants giving away ~900 points just in the change in first round picks. That is a good starter, late 1 or early 2 pick.

@mccool.bsky.social Didn't have a dog in the race, but I watched Army vs Navy today. One of the best football games I've seen in years. Old school, like when I played, both sides ran the ball. Both sides ran sort of a Wing T scheme, but with a modern shotgun formation. Lots of QB runs. Great!

@byjacobward.bsky.social I’m watching the recent video on TWIT where you discuss the advantages Google has over OpenAI and Meta. I would add that Google isn’t totally reliant on NVIDIA, they use their own chips to some extent. NVIDIA has about 50% net profit, so Google has a major cost advantage.

@scripting.com Hey Dave, I have a question about an RSS feed for a podcast. Evidently I'm not smart enough to find the answer with a search. In the RSS file I'm looking at, following the actual audio file's name ending in '.mp3', this is part of the string: '?updated=1759323956'.

But, imagine the pricing power these AI companies have after their customers have fired all their workers and can't go back? Mid-contract, they'll ask for more money with the threat of bankruptcy.

@mccool.bsky.social I agree with the part about Landry being past his sell by date. Loved the guy, but I watched them play the '85 Bears. He trotted out the same offense, which failed miserably, instead of spreading the field to get the Bears our of the '46. Jerry failed the firing process though.

@gruber.foo The question Craig/Joz should have been asked about Siri: What is the accuracy required for Siri using AI to make changes to Calendar, Reminders, etc.? I think it's extremely high, like 99.9999%. I'm note sure that's possible.

@dh44.bsky.social I had to explain to wife why I'm so excited Rogers is a Steelers. Steelers beat Boys in 2 Super Bowls in the 70s. They deserve each other. Also, Landry went to 7 NFC Championship games in 70s, won 5, won 2 Super Bowls. Now, we get to watch Jerry on TV. 😂

I was shocked at the Boys drafting Booker. No one I follow ever suggested this might happen. Now, it seems the Boys were telling us this would be the pick, assuming it wasn't McMillan. Why didn't anyone see this coming, I didn't.

@mccool.bsky.social Podcast question for you and Marcus: After listening to Broaddus, it sounds like Pickens is Dez 2.0, both playing and non-playing aspects. Can you compare and contrast Pickens and Dez? OBTW, Dez and Bob Hayes are my two all-time favorite Boys WRs.
