I currently have no strong feelings about Andy Burnham. I don’t know a ton about him. But I do think his potential grasp for PM should be contested, if only so that there is a choice. Wouldn’t it be funny if Corbyn and Millibamd threw their names in the hat too tho

Wild split in the Brum elections. 6 remaining to be called. Labour didn’t do themselves any favours this year with all the bin strikes.

When I’m building UI I try and start with raw html, but when building tables you inevitably need sorting and pagination. I’ve got a decent StimulusJS setup but I feel the resistance in having to go and add to every table I have.

That eventually leads me to VueJS as reusing components in js just feels cleaner than html/stimulus. And I’ve got 114 tables in various states of on-page tablesort, server side stimulus sort, and Vue components.

Haven’t had a cat since I was much younger. So gotta figure out all the cat stuff now. Anyone got a black kitten going spare?

Think I’ve finally got the fix for a redis instance maxxing and just flushing all its entries. Web host pings / every minute or so to keep processes alive (and health checks) and each time, new session, new cache entry. Let’s see what the charts are like tomorrow.

Big feature release today over @trilbytv.co.uk Been a long project but our new calendar view is now available for your planning and organising your digital signage. This has been the big work we've been doing for months, starting a migration to a new frontend framework

It brings our unique experience to calendars for your signage, as well as advanced repeating options, colour options, and a cleaner interface. Really happy with the team's work on this.

This was not only us adding more configuration choices to player schedules, but new tooling as start the process of migrating the whole web app. Expect many more changes over the coming months.

I swear bsky seems to follow new people for me. Am I subscribed to something that does it for me? Was it one of those starter packs? How would I know. 196 following today for the record.

Just had to email my kids school cos their newsletters (maybe via their pupil management tool) is being sent via sendgrid (maybe via their SIM system) and no one did the domain validation so all the emails head right to spam. 😢

Watching LLMs try to reason with and lint Stimulus controllers is funny. Lots of “sorry let’s try another way” before it ultimately fails.

Built a neat little solution for company signatures today. Until now we just had a bunch of html files I made by hand. If we change the format, every file changes. Gross. New system uses a json file with an html template and moustache placeholders and an array of data to fill in

Is it robust? No. Is it easy to update? Slightly. Does it work? Yes. Is it better than 20+ html files? Yes. Am I proud of this dumb tool? Yes. I am.

Then each person gets matched to their user id in an internal tool and when they open their new profile page, it grabs the file, reads the template, finds the user info (by user id), fills the template then renders on page. Then there’s a plain+html copy button and a source code copy.

Problem solving with ChatGPT is great. Found some rails/redis expires_at/expires_in misconfig that explains why redis keys never cleared (think we swapped redis gems at some point) Unrelated, considering adding some redis cleaning web admin tools.

And that’s 2600 keys down to…:7. Honestly there’s no way that many redis keys are needed. These are internal tools and a public one that needs no sessions.

I’m way behind on listening to Do By Friday and it took me a long time to realise that I kept getting 5 min previews of the after show from their Patreon feed. And it took me even longer (over a month) to realise my sub ended cos my card got spoofed and the payment details changed. In April.

> superversive (adj.) — Said of a person: one who seeks to uplift, ennoble, and inspire others, affirming meaning, beauty, and virtue rather than undermining them. Let that be you. *unless you wanna dunk on someone you feel went against you

If tech is turning on “wokeism” what is it returning to? What are the ideals that aligns to? Hopefully acceptance, acknowledgement, understanding, reasoning, discussion. If it’s just coded talk for being sexist and racism and offensive, I’m not sure I’m interested in that community.

It’s OK if your css framework is not political. Your test suite doesn’t need to change names. Your testing tools can change its name. But we can try to respect people. We don’t have to agree. Often we won’t. And with that we can each decide what is acceptable to us. And how we behave after that.

Reached the point where I need to make a way to send a copy of every email in our systems for testing. I’m up to 41 in the list so far. And that’s skipping a bunch too.

Got a weird case with Prosopite suggesting I add an includes to a query, and when I do and run it, the query doesn't make 1bn db calls, but prosopite tells me to remove the query and when I do, it makes 1bn db calls.

Are there any good oauth solutions for custom providers for @nuxt.com ? Found one that seemingly has no use and doesn’t seem like it does oauth properly. And another that only supports a given list of providers, not custom. Probably need to GPT my own.

Lost most of the day to an unexplained bug with some azure functions. Ones that used to take 10-16s now timing out after 10 mins. No obvious reason. Had deployed updates 26hrs earlier. Something just stopped.

Just mysterious errors like “Functions Did not find any initialized language workers” The presence of APM tools did not help at all. It was a trial and error fix and in the end we updated everything.

Doing a bit of cleanup on some old Vue components built a while ago with fetch, nice to strip out 40+ lines of code and drop in one useFetch to clean it all up. Sorting out bugs I’ve been meaning too for weeks

Nice to get some database maintenance stuff in place. Cut the size by~80% (not that I did any of this). All these cleanup tasks buried in documentation that cause db’s to swell in size.
