Hiii! Been taking a break from social media. It's been fucking great. Highlights: I completed my 1970s RnR-salvation teenage-years memoir 😃 And Julian turned me on to one of the most amazing songs I'd never heard – The Real Thing by Russell Morris ❤️ youtu.be/wylEB-P76nA?...

The Rolling Stones miming to I Got You Babe on Ready Steady Go 1965. Brian & Cathy McGowan are delightful. So is Keith on tuba. The whole thing is 😍

Julian and me, Fried era 🐢 ❤️

RIP David Jo 💔 If you don't know his post-Dolls career, here's Frenchette – one of my all-time favourite songs

I'm so sad we've lost David Johansen – our last living Doll 💔 I saw him a good dozen times in 1978/79 after his first amazing solo album. Such an icon. 💔

My favourite Black Sabbath performance on YouTube – War Pigs live on Pop Shop, 1970. Everything about it is chef's kiss (especially Bill Ward). Generals gathered in their masses Just like witches at black masses Genius metal poetry! 🤘 youtu.be/6BPIL8oNazk?...

Wayne Kramer departed for the next dimension a year ago today. I miss him every day youtu.be/dfDoUIh23Wg?...

When Julian was 15 he bought an album for 25p by a band he'd never heard of called Saint Steven. Therein was a GEM of a song that is a household favourite – Bastich I youtu.be/7E4DYJI6T-o?...

Fabulous & surreal 1972 film of Nico having a fiery meltdown followed by a sublime version of Abschied youtu.be/pvxWV1fDbZM?...

Julian and I played this song over and over and over during our "Fried" garage-rock years ❤️ Richard & the Young Lions – Open Up Your Door youtu.be/mLq8q7QKnPE?...

Excellent lesser-known Krautrock for those seeking a Kosmic Friday night (top tip: listen with headphones) Günter Schickert - Rabe in der Nacht youtu.be/UO1TZxD2PK8?...

One of the best Marianne pics ever. Hell, one of THEE best pics ever

What RnR lover worth one's salt wasn't obsessed with Marianne Faithfull at some point? 💔

My first visits to the UK in the late 1970s, the Cadbury's vending machines on London Underground platforms blew my mind. As an American accustomed to Hershey's, I could not believe how friggin good that chocolate was.

This is a masterful book. Highly recommended – especially for those who deeply love art

One of my favourite-ever vids on YouTube – early Sly & the Family Stone, Dance to the Music. All the squares go home! youtu.be/N_LwJCxR7F4?...

I love love love Outside Chance by the Turtles and never knew until this second that it was co-written by Warren Zevon when he was 18 youtu.be/EDKqA5fbosY?...

Well blow me down I only just learned that Midge Ure replaced Gary Moore in Thin Lizzy

2024 was a weird-ass year (all my super-sensitive friends agree; something felt “off”). I found joy in hanging with my fam, very long walks, rediscovering The Kinks, micro-exploring Wiltshire, and spending a lot less time online. Wishing everyone peace and love in 2025 ❤️

I had a whale of a time watching this fabulous Stones doc last night youtu.be/i5i8kg_tc9k?...

ohhhh what a beautiful buzz what a beautiful buzz youtu.be/a7zqFo7SX7s?...

I love this ❤️ www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnQb...

I had no idea Stoicism was hip (and possibly even a bit manosphere). I don't care. It's absolutely changed my life. I recommend this book with all of my worrywart heart

Happy 40th birthday to Fried ❤️

At dinner tonight we were wondering: who was the inspiration behind the mid-60s trend for extreme sideburns?

Julian told me that the two most impressively professional bands he saw in his Eric's days were Devo and Crass.

Re-watched the Crass doc There Is No Authority But Yourself last night. Stirringly great. If you've never seen, HIGHLY recommended youtu.be/qIa_jVDRYg4?...

Of all the vids I shared over the years on Twitter, I think this is one of my favourites. Devo with a very early (1977) Gut Feeling>Slap Your Mammy. Compels me! youtu.be/gYwL3SmcnB4?...

I'm following back everyone. It's making for a fun and interesting timeline and a very different experience from Twitter – which is a good thing 😍

I’ve got a think for multiple vocals – be they harmonies or, in this case, unison. The Moody Blues – Ride My See-Saw, complete with Ray Thomas on vocals and dad dancing. youtu.be/VC4njDm5Dzo?...

After discussing Rock On by David Essex extensively over breakfast the other day, I just listened to it for the first time in I'm guessing over 30 years. Whoa. I mean I dug it as a kid but it's actually amazing! youtu.be/1jQmok3BcHs?...

This morning at breakfast Julian gave me a crash course in Cockney Rebel of all things, which started with David Essex's first two singles. (I'll probably forget everything he told me within a month because for me it falls under "You Had To Be There: ie. Not My Thing).

Julian reminded me when in 2003 Kim Fowley kept calling our house after Julian's featured Outrageous as his Album of the Month. Apparently, Fowley was thrilled with J's description of him as a urine-stained street hustler. Those AOTMs were really something www.headheritage.co.uk/unsung/album...

So, a year ago I downloaded the Day One app with the objective of learning to take better pictures. One photo a day, with a few sentences to accompany it... it's been a great experience. A highly recommended free app!
