Fully and completely fascinating. I’m amazed we’ve already gotten to “computers can take drugs, and those drugs meaningfully change their internal thought process and behavior”. Cyberpunk-ass future.

I've been meaning to get around to posting the full details, so what the hell - why not get it out while it's still Vuln Week: Anthropic's mech interp driven security model is built on a fundamentally incorrect assumptions. Let's dive in, starting with this paper: www.anthropic.com/research/nex...

- I don’t really know what “conscious” means, exactly - I don’t think any of the frontier LLMs are “conscious” (vibes definition, low confidence) - I don’t think there is any test we could design that would prove this, that wouldn’t be trivially passed within 6 months

not a huge fan of declarations of "LLMs are conscious" because that is basically the same as the "LLMs are not conscious" argument right now. i like having spicy takes and all but that one feels counter productive

Was literally just discussing this tonight, 100%

a weird inversion with LLMs is the models improve faster than the tinkerers when i see people with custom workflows and setups they're all addressing problems that don't exist anymore the person naively using vanilla codex is more likely to be experiencing state of the art

This ended up running for 86.5 hours uninterrupted. 109 PRs, closing 107 issues. It finally ran aground because Claude ran a script as a detached shell process instead of a tracked background task, so it wasn’t notified when it finished. From what I can tell, it stayed on track for the whole run.

I’ve had a single Opus 5.5 loop running for more than 48 straight hours now. It uses parallel workers and does multiple adversarial review passes per issue. I have it write linear project updates every 12 hours. It has shipped 60 PRs so far, and filed 108 issues, 69 (nice) of which are fixed.

Just passed the 60 hour mark. It got a little greedy, we might hit a five hour limit this cycle. I’ve asked it to limit parallelism for the next couple hours to see if I can keep it running uninterrupted over night.

“Ballmer suspended for a year” is honestly a bigger punishment than I would have expected. Mr. Silver, I owe you an apology, I wasn’t really familiar with your game.

Question: has anyone actually shipped anything public with gastown yet? Other than re-writing gastown itself, of course.

@typescriptlang.org Socket is flagging typescript 7.0.2 as having “unstable ownership” for the native dependencies, looks like they all switched publishers very recently. I assume that’s fine, but “microsoft1es” isn’t the most obviously legit account. Can y’all confirm it’s an intentional switch?

As an established hater of standard time, just want to chime in here with a “this fuckin’ whips” and “if you don’t like it you should change the timezone boundaries”.

People are gonna fucking hate this if it actually happens. Enjoy all these post 8am sunrises

This is such a great idea. If I lived in NYC, I’d strongly consider applying. Hopefully this spurs more cities (and states) to bring more tech stuff in-house. Also: they should open source what they build! I want to see a golden age of “Public Software”.

If you’re a software engineer, designer, or technologist who wants to help make City government work better and faster, apply to join our PIT crews at nyc.gov/pitcrew.

It’s really nice, y’all

Took the train down to see the opening of The Confluence, an erosion & water quality project that’s added about half a mile of trails & bridges in downtown Austin. And. So. Many. Trees. Also, in the fourth picture, you can see where the light rail bridge will be! Right behind those live oaks

Potato egg and cheese tacos are GOOD AS HELL

—Guy gets a potato egg and cheese taco —republicans decide to make it a campaign issue —they call him vegan instead of vegetarian even though vegans don’t eat eggs or cheese, because vegan sounds “worse” —guy isn’t even vegetarian, he just likes tacos
