Opinion | Todd Blanche's Dangerous Mission to Undermine Democracy in Service of Trump ->Common Dreams | More on "Attorney General independence from president" at BigEarthData.ai | #Democracy

commondreams.orgOpinion | Todd Blanche's Dangerous Mission to Undermine Democracy in Service of TrumpAppearing on NBC’s "Meet the Press" on August 16, 2026, Attorney General Todd Blanche admitted that he has abandoned the principle that has guided the Justice Department since Watergate. Asked if he would pledge to act independently of the White House, he said: “No, I’m not going to pledge that. And no attorney general should make that pledge.” He is tragically wrong. Blanche has forgotten that he works for all Americans, not the single man he refers to as “the boss.” Blanche might consider this: Trump is a fickle friend who can quickly become a fierce foe. In the near term, he’s angling to thwart the midterm elections in which Republicans are poised to lose President Donald Trump’s death grip on Congress. In the long run, the nation will bear the consequences of his weaponization of the Justice Department for years to come. Blanche’s Pursuit of Trump’s Retribution Agenda Attorney General Pam Bondi failed in her valiant efforts to satisfy Trump’s obsession to punish all of his perceived enemies. Her most visible failures involved former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James. Career prosecutors at the Department of Justice (DOJ) found the evidence insufficient to indict...

The Andromeda galaxy is 6 times bigger in the sky than the full Moon: it's just too dim to clearly see it with the naked eye. This composite image shows what it would look like at night if it was just brighter. [📸 Tom Buckley-Houston] Original post

ICE was chasing someone else. Instead, an ICE SUV struck a 48-year-old man in Houston, breaking both his legs. He’s lived in America for over 30 years. How many more people have to end up dead or hospitalized before there’s real accountability? #USDemocracy abc13.com/post/man-run...

Vista youth are out on Santa Fe Avenue asking for the end of ICE terrorizing our community. The amount of harm being done to our youth is unconscionable. They should not fear that their families might be ripped apart or see their friends distraught after a parent is kidnapped. Stand with our youth!

The largest and sharpest image ever taken of the Andromeda galaxy — otherwise known as M31. It is the biggest Hubble image ever released and shows over 100 million stars, thousands of star clusters in a section of the galaxy’s disc stretching across over 40,000 light-years. Original post

When people say Covid is just the flu, let me tell you something: I have had both covid and flu in my lifetime. The flu is not so great it is HORRIBLE. Covid for me, was worse. Why? 1. The acute infection was god awful then rebounded. 2 I now have Long COVID, NOT Long Flu!
