The former: a masterpiece including murder ballad fantasy, lament and a cover of No Scrubs. I really miss Scout Niblett - where are you, Scout? The latter is likely my most played record of late. I love Avalon Emerson's vocal. Mournful, upbeat, romantic electro-indie-pop.

I asked NFW about his favourite PM works, and what it was about them. His reply: "about 40 of his abstract works. The reason I like them—to answer that "why"—is because they bring me great pleasure and make me feel very right."

I worked on a very good Mondrian show at Tate Liverpool, and met Nicholas Fox Weber, who was then beginning work on a biography of the artist. I've also written the odd thing myself, but it's not really brought me any closer to PM. Maybe it's simply the mystery of him, of his singular abstraction.

My mind is always drifting back to de stijl, especially to Mondrian. I find it very difficult to say why - other than ever since I saw his mature work, I've loved no artwork or artist more than his. This not knowing isn't a problem, not really, but it is quite odd.

I'm very tired. I'm not sure what the reason is. I suspect having to interview for my job, submit my thesis then start the academic year with all of the adrenaline that those first two things entail not having been dealt with, may have something to do with it.

Labour seem unable to learn that in some situations there is a right side and a wrong side. Sometimes a compromise is entirely inappropriate. There’s no balance to be found between racists and non-racists. No balance between climate change deniers and reality.

If closing surely the least expensive radio channel the BBC has (run by a tiny number of people, broadcasting the work of mainly dead people), bothers you, then why not sign this petition you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/sa...

Not sure how much money closing Radio 4 extra will save. I am happy to forgo my £22 a year from repeat fees if that helps.

Talking to students about writing, including citation and referencing, today. To help me do this, I wrote a dummy text using Harvard style - I don't mind telling you that it was a bit too soon after doing it (and on a fairly large scale) for my thesis. Quite triggering tbh.
