📍 👋 Hi, I'm Doug! You probs got here via a starter pack. I will try to be a pleasant surprise. 😁 TLDR: Started learning #gamedev 1yr ago (had coding exp). Started with #gamemaker & moved to #Godot Building a 3D game & a collaboration framework! 💙 Sci-Fi, Music, Art I do not tolerate intolerance

Watched a bunch of reaction videos where people who weren't aware of Mr Rogers... Watched a short video about him. I wish I could have met him. Unconditional goodness. Extreme Equinimity and kindness at all times.

Shame I didn't see this in time. (schedule wouldn't have worked anyway)

Been doing a lot reflection this past yr Healing old things & noticing others for example: My weird need to turn every passion project into a monument of pressure tied to my very concept of identity As I work through changing that - I'm trying to remove that tendency from GameDev.

I always seem to want to talk about what I'm doing. And if anyone notices, it goes from "Expression" to "Stewardship" I pressure myself to do it well, keep momentum, not lose the community, etc. A predictable path to burnout & I do it all the time Gotta allow myself to slowly be bad at things...

On a related note... Do any of you #GameDev peeps know of an online tool for creating fictional elevation maps? I would be cool to play with something to get a terrain shape I like before trying to actually create a model.

Wanted: Suggestions for: Learning to make a terrain "base" model with nice drivable hills... That I can place my city buildings & streets on seamlessly... And be able to find/address the nearest street & maybe even individual lanes. #gameedev

What would be a more fun #gamedev reintroduction project? 🔹Godot game starter : game states, input mgmt, game saves, screen transitions... etc 🔹Blender tutorials : I need to get better here overall

I'm in NYC for work this week Had a good time at a work event & it hit me that it's been awhile since I've been truly able to relax at such events... or anywhere. It was nice, hope it's a sign of progress, not just a one-off. Please enjoy this view of Bryant Park.

I wasn't going to say anything but a few days ago I opened Godot. I blocked out a single level for a one scene jam style game. Haven't made a character controller or anything else but... I opened Godot. gamedev but no "real" coding.

Yesterday kinda sucked, but it's another step away from the old life. Gotta keep focused on building the new one Had a TINY #gamedev idea to do as a Jam to honor the journey & reintroduce myself to #Godot - but not sure when/if I'll get to it

Need ideas for a good solo vacay in 2026 for someone who isn't good at meeting people Are there low-prey gamedev boot camps or something? I've seen the “geeky cruises” out there but I dunno if that'd be fun solo. But then, what would? Can I just go help out at an archeology dig?

For the record: whatever the process, I'm glad it worked out for Jimmy Kimmel ... I kinda thought all the late night hosts were gonna have to start their own streaming service 🤔 Maybe the should If that happens I wanna work there. Doing... something I'm a "Big Idea" guy... I can do something

I love all the awesome stuff I’m seeing whilst I lurk. You people are awesome As inspiring as it is, I’m still not really in a place to put energy into serious #gamedev Starting to worry I’ll have to start learning fully over when I get back to it.

Today I reminded myself that the player's experience is the most important thing I had what felt like a neat idea for #HighwayNoir - different parts of the room light up to show what you are about to do instead of buttons. But it just isn't consistent or intuitive, especially with keys/D pad :(

Seems the 🤬 flooding my life will last thru Xmas Can't remember what it's like to have a night where chilling w GameDev felt OK By the time I get back to it AI will be able to make my game instantly Makes me sad People will forget how hard it is Then they'll stop sharing little wins Then what?

Staring at a piece of furniture that needs to be put together. I don't wanna There's so much empty still. So much more allen wrench in my future Thought my budget was slowing my rebuilding down... It's just giving me a break from pulling stickers off parts & cursing the allen wrench's soft metal

5 am 🥱 sitting in an airport Thinking about projects, I'm slowly getting my life situated enough to be able to relax a bit I read a book recently! Returning to #gamedev means focusing on 3D modeling. Have tutorials to watch. May still need a 3D environment mentor We need a gamedev skill exchange

Been playing with Ludocene a bit, and I'm impressed with it, and the very idea. Finally, a fun way to explore games beyond steam's Discovery queue! Congrats @geekdadgamer.bsky.social this is good stuff.

🎉LUDOCENE LAUNCHED 🎉 So excited (and nervous) to send our game-finder into the world. Ludocene.com If you want a better way to find amazing games that rewards experts and is in the hands of players, this is our shot. Thank you to the 1000's backers and supporters. This is just the beginning.

Putting together an intro deck for work has me reviewing my #gameDev progress & I'm recommitted to my driving game! I'd have to learn the things to finish it to do anything else anyway. Plus it's nearly awesome At this rate it may be next year before I get back to it properly, but so be it.

Been running lots lately, but back @ the new place. It's nice to have a place that's nice to come back to 🤔 It's all hardwood (nice) which has taught me lots, for example: I'm quite certain carpets were invented to keep people from realizing how much dust collects in a single day. #TheMoreYouKnow

Of all the things I can't believe I didn't get before I left my life behind... my PC drawing tablet. I didn't even grab my iPad. I'm inspired by all the cool art I've seen today here & in the mood to push pixels. In the meantime, please enjoy this awesome #pixelart

Have an idea for a game, but seems I'm unable to generate “small" ideas Could build 3 small “jam" games to prrove it out. Each could take forever I'm too busy plugging holes in my life to start it. #GameDev was an escape for me. I'm on my own now & there's less to escape from - but more to manage

Very interesting. And important. One-sided power dynamics & colonial fantasies may never go away in full... but we need a wider array of options It's lengthy, so if this is your jam, enjoy! If you are new or need to learn... maybe drop it into notebookLLM and enjoy the podcast version.

Still tons of loose ends in life but thinking about #gamedev. My driving game calls out but also something new Something that people may enjoy seeing come together because of the story as much as the dev Something smaller I can finish sooner & learn while doing I have ideas! But none small. 🤷‍♂️

While rebooting myself I'm breaking my Coke addiction 🫗 Woke up one day & no longer had my house & kids... figured I could quit cola if I could survive that Still having some coffee/tea, and allowed a Coke if I go out - but I don't keep it at the house It's working, but the headaches are real

Yesterday was a good day. Despite not getting as much done at work as I would have liked, or at home... My bestest buddy Dudley, came to stay with me. 🐶 Logistics & travel will be tougher, but I've got somebody with me now. Now I'm not talking to myself... as far as anyone knows. #doglovers 💙

When did we all decide that the Allen wrench, as designed, was ok??!! It's always a PITA to use. Even with the fancy grip holders. How about normal screws?? You know how many people have power screwdrivers? A lot You know how many people have power Allen wrenches? None Nobody. No, you don't!

Life’s stabilized a bit & I’m thinking about projects again. #gameDev for sure, but I'm rethinking the how. And other projects: 🔹Reinventing ME 🔹Interior design (new place!) 🔹Open source AI & tools to run my NEW life Might be a different vibe than before. Might get weird. Please excuse the mess. 🚧
