I grabbed the near end of coil to pull it out when the stripped tip I couldn't see makes contact with the pan and SPARKS! The motherfucker was live!

I immediately kicked everyone off the METAL ceiling and went to fight me some sparkies Fuck I think I can still smell the ozone

I was pulling myself across the metal ceiling on my belly through sprinkler pipes, ducts, and conduit when I found one of my ceiling pans missing its lid with a length of 277 volt wire coiled inside it

Apprentice is sick with the flu so of course I spent the day screaming at the superintendent that if he makes the kid come in I'm letting the client know and then we're ALL staying home until docs' clear us

Other apprentice was overheard saying "I hope I don't have pink-eye" and was kicked off site for a week so the stakes are real

Had a guy whine about union rates in Jersey when "back home I can hire a welder for $17/hour at the submarine yard" and buddy, you couldn't pay me to ride a train with $17/hour welds

I called the foreman on his weekend off which I hate to do because even though he's the boss he's also a union brother, but I had to yell at him about how layoffs went down.

I hate all these behind-the-scenes dealings and I'm alarmed that I'm good at it. I honestly believe I'm acting according to everyone's best interests but there is still the voice in my head that says "Doesn't everybody at first?"

I hate being shop steward but I will admit I'm the ideal candidate for it(aside fron being bureaucracy-challenged). Honestly it's a big factor in deciding if I take the project manager job

Turns out my hunch was right and this out-of-state company was legally burned bad by giving advance notice of layoffs in the past and overreacted. I was able to leverage the trust I've earned to get the next layoff list(weeks away) which will let me find jobs for these guys before it happens

Found out my company's client wants to poach me and make a project manager. Their starting offer is basically what I made last year when I did 6 months of OT?!

Foreman left on vacation so of course I get the call with 1 hours warning that 5 guys are getting laid off. Everyone in management is a coward so I had to tell them

Already got 1 guy on a new job and 2 others decided they're taking a short vacation after all the OT. I'm just pissed off about how disrespectfully the company handled this

It's extremely niche specialty work that's in growing demand that we spent months training these guys in. Why would they burn them with such a kiss-off

It's construction, we get laid off a lot, we're used to it! Give guys a little notice that it's coming so they can line up their next job.

Me: I'm sorry but you're laid off Apprentice: What? Why? Me: Well, because you were asking for it App: The hell are you talking about? Me: You said "Hey, if there are layoffs coming put me first on the list" App: Oh. Yeah, I thought you meant I fucked something up

Promised my kid we'd walk to the pizza place when I got home, then got a flat tire AND a busted car battery(also got shorted on my paystub). Got home super late but I kept my promise

Took the kid to Forgotten Island last night and it was incredible. How is there not a massive as campaign for this? It deserves to win an Oscar

I brought a crockpot full of chai sweet potatoes to work for the crew and their reaction was universally 1.) What the fuck? and 2.) Oh fuck this shit is good

I think I'm going to do this every Saturday. Colcannon, penne vodka, chili.... reward the guys for coming in on a Saturday

Wife: Who's that actor Me: Greg Kinnear Wife: Why do I know that name? Me: *Take off your top and get killed by Greg Kinnear*! Wife: HE'S REAL?

Took my kid to the beach for the first time and it was rainy and gloomy and deserted and perfect. There were hundreds of seabirds, she filled all our pockets with shells and seaglass, the water was warm and the waves were low

Been in a depressive episode lately but it's really nice that I have the means to support my child's wildest dreams* *Eating sushi at the grocery store and shouting "Go Birds!" at everyone wearing green

I always feel like I'm fucking up everything in my life but never with her. I see that little gremlin teaching herself how to skank-dance and have no doubt I'm a great dad

My kid's "uncle"(my best friend) surprised her on my birthday with an intricately crafted muppet puppet and it definitely - for better or worse - unlocked something in her

Wife asked me what I wanted to do the morning of my birthday and honestly the first thought was take little misschief out for a tea party at an actual tea room

She was crying, begging me to make sure my next job was next to the "purple milk" place. Basically she misses when I worked 1 town over rather than the other side of the state

So let the party and the sounds rock on/ We're gonna shake it 'til the life has gone/ Rose tint my world keep me safe from the trouble and pain

RIP Tim Curry.

Played hooky from work yesterday and took my kid out for a rainy day at the fair. Was mad about spending $50 on ride passes until I realized no lines meant 4 nonstop hours of carnival rides. Definitely worth getting a little wet, and when it really opened up we got to pet baby bunnies for an hour

Me: Alright, any last questions before I get back to my own work? Apprentice: Yah, what's this next piece I need? Why do they make these blueprints so hard to read Me: Okay, first off, it's a 2B-EL857.5, secondly, you're holding them upside down

Something I learned this year is that if the job will fall apart without that's MORE reason to take a day off because when you come back everybody will suddenly become a lot nicer to you
