The goal is 61. Because Fettermen is MAGA, And doesn't count. 60 votes to make any impeachment ballots secret, would allow the cowardly (but I repeat myself) Republican senators to vote for impeachment. My account is 55, but the first and second derivatives are pointing in the right direction.

Just a thought. In 2028, there are 17 days between when the US House & Senate are sworn in, and the presidential inauguration. 17 days is plenty of time to complete the impeachment of DjT. It's only 17 days? Every single day that traitor remains in office is a travesty.

Absolute cowardice is the Hallmark of our Congress. It boggles my mind that we 25 plus plus Republican senators haven't called for impeachment. Do they realize that this failure will condem the Republicans to wander for 40 years in the deserts of political irrelevance.

I'm a physicist, and agree with George Herbert's analysis. Coupling of emps is related to the length of the antenna. Long power transmission lines would be impacted, but the mitigation upgrades that have been made over the years to deal with solar flares also harden against EMP.

George William Herbert@georgewherbert.bsky.social

Part of my portfolio is nuclear weapons and their effects. EMP as a civilization ending event is a work of fiction. Don’t know how to make it clearer. Most of the popular literature is incompatible with actual test results and with extensive physics analysis.

Miniaturization of electronics post 1962 (operation Fishbowl) means that devices not connected to the grid are essentially immune to nuclear EMP. Sandia National Lab has conducted 100s tests of military and civilian devices and published the results. Using atomic's for EMP is militarily stupid.

Let's talk about flashbangs. FBs are extraordinarily dangerous devices. A Couple of decades ago I worked on a project to try to make them safer. The primary result of that research was to produce pyrotechnics that reduced flame temperature, and increased gas volume.

The same goes for kicking them. Why you may not lose toes, if one goes off in contact with your foot, several bad things can happen. You're likely to suffer a deep hematoma. Think of a bruise that goes all the way to the Bone. By definition your brain is within 5 ft, think TBI.

Distance is your friend wrt FBs. Get far away, put something sturdy between yourself and the source of the explosion. Shock waves reflect by a change in density; walls, cars, even glass. While the glass may shatter, if the FB is more than a couple meters away, the glass won't pick up much velocity.

I suggest the following if you're going to be in anywhere FB's are being deployed. NEVER pick one up! If it goes off in your hand, you will lose fingers. Not maybe lose fingers, not suffer injury, virtually certain to suffer amputation of fingers. Gloves that you can get, will not do much to help.

If you happen upon a flashbang where the pin was never pulled, Don't pick it up. Why you may not be in physical danger, legally flashbangs are regulated under the National firearms act as Destructive Devices, the same as a hand grenade. 25 years in prison, $250k fine.

Never try to put anything over an unexploded flashbang. Doing so will confine the gases come out and whatever you put over it will become a projectile. There are flashbangs that are designed with multiple charges. Even if one goes off, it's not safe to pick up or interact with.

Not a lawyer. Don't play one on TV. The legal landscape at the time I was briefed was that changing the trajectory of a FB back towards the thrower is considered aggravated assault and battery, likely a felony. Yes it's insanely unfair, but remember the .Gov agents have impunity, you don't.

Did this result in a safer flashbang? Yes, if your definition of safety involves lighting stuff on fire. No, If you care about physical harm to human flesh. There are many rules in deploying flashbangs that are ignored by DHS. Even if the rules were followed, these are really dangerous devices

This is so accurate, and on point for this time.

Modern American culture expects/demands immediate results. Good governance, good construction, good science, those things take time, thinking, planning. Wrecking stuff is fast. You can show the results this week. This gives the Break Shit/Burn It All Down Party an advantage. It’s that simple.

We had a 28-year incumbent Rep who barely even showed up to the legislature. We collected signatures for a libertarian run against him. Our candidate lost his job and got evicted, and didn't file. It turns out the incumbent forgot to file. No R filed. If our guy had filed, he would have won.

The time to organize to run for 2026 is now. Signature collection in many states starts in October of this year. Everybody has an excuse why they can't run for office, I don't give a shit. If you have time enough to complain in social media, you can run. No excuses!

Why bother running in 26 if your district is a lock for the evil party? Because it shows opposition. Every uncontested primary every uncontested general election shows those in power that the electorate is apathetic and or content with the current course of things. Run for office, Damn it!

It's our own fault. 70% of electoral races across the country were uncontested in 2024. Every legislative race should have an opponent. Every incumbent should have an appointment in the primary. While I would prefer classical Liberal candidates on the ballot, let there be some opposition.

We need more Hoppe hate. More than Rand, Hoppe is completely fake Liberal/ libertarian language dressing up the reality of authoritarian, bigotry and cruelty.

Janet Bufton 🍁🌻@janetbufton.ca

I understand the frustration over dealing with silly nonsense. This is why serious liberal libertarians resisted engaging Hans Hoppe's "economics" of anarcho-capitalist monarchism. Letting it fester worked out poorly. (My good friend @tomgpalmer.bsky.social is an exception. He skewers Hoppe here.)

What's your budget for paywall news? I started keeping track of news articles that I have opted not to read because of subscriptions. In the last week, if I had paid for everything I wanted to read it would have come to more than $2,200 a year. What do you actually spend on news subscriptions?

This is a fantastic piece of very dark poetry. I spent a day with two MAGAts, one of them an immigrant. This is so on point for the delight they showed in the cruelty, and the indifference to anything resembling Justice, reason and the rule of law.

I'm going to get deported? My mother was not fully naturalized in 1964 when I was born in Brooklyn. That also means that my three children are also not citizens. When they come for me & mine, my resistance will be loud. This EO is just lies and posturing.

That's the wonderful thing about states of emergency. It's a state of mind, and in this case, the State of mind of a narcissistic unstable egomaniac probably suffering from early stage dementia. Every dictatorship has a perpetual state of emergency, justifying emergency powers.

Nicholas Grossman@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social

A president-elect has no authority to impose tariffs or have govt do anything else. Wake us up when something actually happens. And the Constitution gives Congress the power to regulate trade. A president unilaterally imposing tariffs would be, at best, unconstitutionally abusing emergency powers.

the Trade Act of 1974 gives POTUS power to impose 15% tariff, for 150 days, for National security emergencies. Does anyone believe that that emergency declaration wouldn't just be rolled over and over and over?

Exactly spot on. In addition, tariffs are the one tax that doesn't require congressional action, current law gives POTUS tariffs power. Impose at will, exempt at will.

Joshua Reed Eakle 🗽@joshuaeakle.com

Trump loves tariffs because it's the most corrupt tax scheme imaginable. Grovel to Trump and enrich him, get exempted from the tax. Stand up to Trump, get your business taxed to oblivion and destroyed. It's as simple as that.

You are up to date.
