It's been a rough week. Hell, it's been a rough semester. A rough year. Trying to do my best to take care of myself right now, though. And right now, I guess that looks like finding things that bring me joy and comfort. 1/2

Joy: Using the Care Bear spoon I had from when I was a kid to stir my coffee/tea. It's silly, but seeing Tenderheart Bear on my spoon makes me smile. Comfort: Eating lunch out of a bowl that used to belong to my mom. It's another weird little piece of my childhood that's comforting me today.

Started watching Ted Lasso the other day because I've heard so many good things about it. ... why am I now so emotionally invested in a show about a soccer coach? Like, I want to be Ted's best friend, he's so damn wholesome

... how has it been 11 years since Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt came out? Time is weird. 😅 (dang I love this show, though)

The Star Trek: The Next Generation episode “The Chase” aired on this day in 1993. Here’s my poster for the episode. I actually have a handful of prints leftover for this one if anyone is interested! #StarTrek #StarTrekTNG #startrekthenextgeneration

Feeling a litle emotional over the end of the Artemis II mission - everything about the mission was so exciting, awe-inspiring, and wholesome. It gave me some much-needed hope in a dark time. Thank you Reid, Christina, Victor, and Jeremy, for sharing your moon joy with the world.

these motherfuckers said it would splashdown at 8:07 and it splashed down at 8:07. after going to the fucking moon. fucking a man. god damn

Your friend Jorts@lethaljorts.bsky.social

it really isn't appreciated enough that we can send something to orbit the moon, which is a fucking long ways away, and still know basically exactly where it will land back on the Earth

NASA just dropped this image of Artemis II astronaut Christina Koch looking back at us. The first woman to ever see our planet in its entirety. I’m not crying you’re crying 🥹🔭🧪 📸: NASA

... honestly considering taking Monday off so I can watch the Artemis II mission livestream as Orion approaches (and loops around) the moon 😅

... omg there's an Artemis plushie from Sailor Moon in the Artemis II Mission Control room in Houston and I freaking *love* it

Holy crap, it all went well! They're in space!! (... I may have just bought an Artemis II patch and Artemis sweatshirt from the NASA shop to celebrate)

OMG MARY ROBINETTE KOWAL LIKED A COMMENT I MADE ON HER POST ABOUT THE ARTEMIS II LAUNCH aaaaagh this is an awesome day, here's hoping things keep going smoothly for the launch

I wrote her a letter after binge-reading her Lady Astronaut series because I loved it so. damn. much. It's a fantastic series - if you haven't read it, you should.

Super excited for the Artemis II launch - really hoping everything goes well and they can take off during their launch window. 🚀

It’s #TransDayOfVisibility. Here’s my poster for the Quantum Leap episode “Let Them Play”. Consider using the hashtag to discover, follow, and support the many talented trans artists creating amazing work today and everyday. 🏳️‍⚧️

There's so much... absolute nonsense, to put it politely, going on in the world. It's exhausting. Depressing. Scary. Nevertheless, I persist. I'm hanging in there, despite everything. I'm making that my act of defiance right now. Instead of letting it all crush me, I keep going. I persist.

Today's one of the days I really miss having Rana around - I'm trying to update PHP on my blog's web server. Whenever she updated the PHP installation, everything went smoothly. Me? Every time I try to update PHP, I end up temporarily bricking my site. (Until I undo the PHP update, anyway) 😭

... if I don't inadvertently crochet myself into a repetitive stress injury, anyway 😅

A little preview of what my next post is going to focus on.

Now comes the ridiculous part of getting back into writing stuff for The Crafty Nerd: getting ALL THE IDEAS for things to write about and hoping the drive to write sticks around for a while. 😅

... I realized I don't have another place to post this at the moment, at least not until I get a Bluesky account for the blog, so I'll share this here instead: I'm playing board games again, and apparently writing blog posts about it too. thecraftynerd.com/2026/02/08/f...

thecraftynerd.comFinally getting back into an old hobby: board gamesIt’s embarrassing to admit, but up until last November, I hadn’t sat down to play a board game since… … yikes, was it really back in 2021 when I played Gloomhaven? Oof. Anyh…

I'm weirdly looking forward to the big snowstorm headed my way this weekend. It's nature's way of saying "stay home and stay cozy". (I know not everyone has the option to do that, but I'm really hoping everyone can stay home and enjoy getting snowed in this weekend.)

Oh, I really hope these get released as prints. I may not be able to afford all of them, but I clearly need at least one for what's clearly turning into the Studio JJ corner of my office.

New #StarTrek has arrived! Here's my episode poster for the series premiere of #StarfleetAcademy: "Kids These Days".

And this isn't even all my Studio JJ prints - I have one from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 that I still need to get a frame for! (the postcards in the crossed out frame are some I got from a Star Trek advent calendar, done by a different artist)

Watched the first two episodes of Starfleet Academy last night, and oh my GOD it was good. Like, I'm really glad Peter didn't get too bothered by my excessive excited flails about everything. Not gonna ramble about it here, I don't wanna spoil anything, but ohh it's so good.

Following up on the "I used my exercise bike for the first time in years" post from earlier: decided to try out Zwift, a virtual riding app where you can go on rides with other people. Did one ride so far, and daaaaaang that was fun and a hell of a workout. (and a reminder that I'm so out of shape)

Now I just have to wrangle the whole "ooooh now I want to do this all the time" feeling I know I'm gonna get when I start riding more again so I don't completely wreck myself. I've done it before, pushing myself too much because I want the dopamine/endorphin hit I get from working out.

A good thing I did for myself today: dusted off the exercise bike and rode for 10 minutes to make up for not being able to easily go for a walk when working from home. (I hate the lack of sidewalks in my area.) Felt good to get moving, even if just for a little bit.

Managed to make it through the holidays, though the week between Christmas and New Year's was pretty rough. It was a little harder to deal with the anniversary of Rana's passing without Hannah. Still hanging in there, though, even though the world is a dumpster fire right now.

so I wrote fan mail to one of my favorite authors and instead of letting it languish as a Word doc on my computer's desktop for months until I chicken out and decide not to send it like every other time I've written fan mail, I actually sent it this time 😱

not sure if I should be proud of myself for defeating ADHD and actually mailing the letter, or if I should panic and grab the letter out of the mailbox before the post office picks it up

To the random person I met at Morgensterns Books yesterday who excitedly chatted with me about tarot cards, tattoos, cats, Tolkein, and Dungeon Crawler Carl: you made my day. ❤️
